About us
- Avid, experienced riders who want a social experience with moderate pacing, but can also handle a few difficult technical challenges.
- Under-55 riders are welcome as well.
- Our rides typically accommodate both slower and faster riders by splitting into two groups or by having add-on options for those who want to go faster or farther.
- Inexperienced riders are welcome, but please research the trail beforehand to determine whether your skills are up to the challenge.
- Our rides average 12-20 miles of blue singletrack and 1k-3k of vertical elevation change with some difficult technical sections. Plan on 2-3 hours per ride. 2-12 riders per ride. Rides are intended to be social, challenging, and reasonably paced so everyone has a good time.
- Zoom meetup discussions could include upcoming ride logistics and planning, questions about gear, ride location suggestions, trail apps, training, life, beer, etc..
- Riding apps we recommend - https://www.mtbproject.com/mobile-app and www.trailforks.com.
- Class 1 e-MTBs are welcome on most rides, subject to the rules. Ask the event manager or Mark if you are unsure which venues allow e-bikes.
- My intent in starting 55+CMTB was to keep older riders engaged in mountain biking by scheduling doable but challenging rides with people who enjoy being around each other. We value kindness, mutual respect, and generosity in this group. We expect all members to be welcoming, supportive, and encouraging of others. Anger, bullying, or unwanted advances will result in immediate removal from the group. Remaining a member of this group is a privilege and not a right.
- We welcome and encourage non-biking events as well. Contact Mark if you have something particular in mind.
- If you want to be an event leader, contact Mark Spoor at 303-669-9107 to discuss.
- Fundraising donations to this group are NOT required, but are appreciated. Donating $50 or more will get you a Free Timber MTB Bell, suitable for warning hikers and wildlife that you are coming down the trail. They sell for $30 on Amazon.
- We do have a Facebook Group, but RSVPs to specific events are on Meetup. FB - https://www.facebook.com/groups/690166003642699

6/18 Colo Springs-Cheyenne Mountain Exploration
Ridgeway Ave Parking, ridgway ave parking, colorado springs, CO, USThis is an exploratory ride around Cheyenne Mountain west of Colorado Springs. There are miles of trails in the area that I’m sure few of us have ridden. The planned route starts at Stratton Open Space, Ridgeway Parking Lot, to Ladders Trail, to Gold Camp Road, to Buckhorn Trail, to Captain Jacks Trail, to Spring Creek Trail, to Gold Camp Road, and back through the Stratton Open Space to the parking lot. The distance should be approximately 13 miles and should take around 3-4 hours.
Be comfortable with exploring.
Because or the distance and the small size of the parking lot, It would probably be best for those who don’t live South of Metro Denver, to carpool from South Denver, maybe at the County Line Park N Ride. I’m open to other suggestions.
Meet at the Park N Ride at 8 am or the Stratton Open Space parking lot at 9:30, ready to ride by 9:45.
