First Steps- A Beginner's Course on Energy Kinesiology and Stress Management
**Interested in Energy Kinesiology? Want to learn effective techniques to help family and friends cope with stress?**
First Steps is a **four-day beginning course** introducing the fundamentals of energy kinesiology.
Energetic Kinesiology is a holistic therapy that begins with the premise that the body is one interacting unit, a whole with many different parts, systems, and functions that interconnect and act upon each other.
When stress is introduced into the system, physiological changes occur, and the body/mind must compensate to continue functioning. This reduces the ability of the affected area to operate at full capacity and efficiency. Energy Kinesiology's unique contribution is to offer a tool that can address and relieve these stressors.
It is consistently used throughout the world to improve learning ability, creativity, and mind/body coordination, as well as to help relieve emotional stress, trauma, physical pains, and most ailments.
In this course you will learn basic muscle testing and begin to practice primary energy balancing techniques. This workshop consists of 50% lecture and 50% hands-on practice.
*No prerequists required! Please come with an open heart for learning and for good natured practice.*
Class Schedule:

Lake Needwood - Easygoing 2.5 mile paddle
Lake Needwood is a cute little lake that perhaps isn't worth devoting a whole afternoon to, but it is a great relaxing spot on a weekday evening. If you've been hesitating to join us out of fear of being too slow - THIS is the event to join to calm your fears.
We will launch from the mooring area on the east side of the lake. There is only parking for 16 vehicles along the road, so if you can't find a spot, then drop off you boat or board at the loading zone and park at the nearby playground.
We will launch promptly at 6:15 and make a clockwise loop of the lake. Even taking it slow, we should be wrapped up before 7:45.
This is event is suitable for kayaks (but not inflatables), canoes, and paddle boards (iSUPs are welcome). As always, you must WEAR, not just carry your life jacket/PFD.
Supposedly you need a daily permit to paddle in Montgomery Parks. You can try to purchase at the website below on the day off, but it usually crashes on me.

VSDC LGBTQ+ &ALLIES History & Hang
Please join the [Veg Society of DC (VSDC)](http://vsdc.org/) for an LGBTQ+ &ALLIES walking tour of LGBTQ+ historical spots in and around Dupont Circle. We will also plan to end the outing with some vegan pizza from [Protest Pizza](https://protestpizza.com/), if space allows, since the restaurant does not accept reservations. If necessary, the group will collectively decide on alternate dinner plans at one of the other vegan options in the area. Note that individuals will be responsible for the cost of their own dinner.
The total distance walked during the event will depend on the wishes of the group as to how many of the [addresses associated with DC's LGBTQ+ history](https://rainbowhistory.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/rainbowhistory_dupont_03-1.pdf) we want to view, but at most around 3 miles.
***Note that this event is open to allies but please see "About the Group" section below for more details on requirements for participation in VSDC LGBTQ+ &ALLIES events.***
**Where**
We'll be meeting at the [Dupont Circle](https://www.wmata.com/rider-guide/stations/dupont-circle.cfm) South exit at 3pm, and will leave by 3:15pm. Starting from Dupont Circle, we will slowly make our way around a variety of addresses that were important to Washington, D.C.'s LGBTQ+ history while chatting. The exact itinerary for the walking tour will be decided upon by a majority of event participants.
In the event of heavy rain, the walking tour portion of the event will be replaced with games and queer-centric conversation at the [Board Room DC](https://boardroomdc.com/), providing there is space to accommodate our group at that time. (Closest Dupont Circle metro exit is North.) After socializing indoors, the group will decide dinner plans together, if folks are feeling up to it. The host will post an urgent comment on this event if we are moving to indoor venue.
**When**
Saturday, April 25, from 3pm to 6pm
**Transportation**
Dupont Circle is on the red line and there is limited paid parking nearby.
***About the Group***
*Unless noted otherwise, VSDC's LGBTQ+ events are intended for queer/questioning folks who self-identify as LGBTQ+. The events are meant to serve as a safe space to share community with other self-identified queer or questioning LGBTQ+ vegan or vegan-curious people. However, we appreciate our allies and we plan to host "LGBTQ+ & ALLIES" events approximately quarterly - to welcome non-queer allies into our events in order to share community with our fellow vegans/veg curious VSDC participants. If the event is an "& ALLIES" event, it will be clearly identified as such in the name of the event. Any person who participates in an "& ALLIES" event must be supportive of LGBTQ+ persons, their lifestyle, and their gender expression; unsupportive or combative individuals will be removed from events and banned from future VSDC LGBTQ+ events. Please note that any and all questions related to gender/LGBTQ+ issues that may arise during either LGBTQ+ or LGBTQ+ & ALLIES events must be posed ONLY to event host, Susan, and not be asked of any other meetup participants in order to respect their privacy and promote their personal safety.*
**Update Your RSVP**
Please change your RSVP if you can no longer make it.
