The Perry Valley Loop is a wonderful loop hike that includes Big Schloss, Tibbet Knob and Half-Moon Mountain in the George Washington National Forest. This is a full 3 days, beginning on Friday and concluding Sunday afternoon. * **Length:** 27.4 miles * **Duration:** 3 days & 2 nights * **Elevation Gain:** 5,133 feet * **Peak Elevation:** 2,964 feet * **Difficulty Level:** Strenuous * **Cost**: None! By registering for a backpacking trip, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to adhere to these requirements. 1\. Self\-Sufficiency & Responsibility: \* This is a group trip, but we operate on a self-sufficient model. You are responsible for your own well-being and preparedness throughout the trip. \* You must carry all your essential equipment, including shelter, food, a first-aid kit, water, and water purification supplies. Sharing some items with a partner is acceptable. 2\. Navigation & Preparedness: \* You are expected to understand the trip's difficulty, including total mileage, elevation gains and declines, type of terrain, and daily splits. \* You must be in good physical shape and capable of completing the planned itinerary. \* You are required to have your own printed maps, as well as a compass and/or GPS, and know how to navigate. This is one of the most fun hikes in the area! It's shorter than our usual routes but still a challenging rock hopping scramble! If you're not comfortable using your hands to move up and down rocks, this is NOT for you. The reward is a 360 degree view of the Luray Valley and New Market Gap We'll move at the usual pace (around 2.5 mph) and stop for a break at the top to enjoy the view. Expect the hike to take about 3.5 hours. Don't forget your lunch! Afterwards we’ll head to Woodstock Brew House for a drink and something more to eat. They have outdoor seating and a full menu of food. The terrain involves a steady and occasionally steep incline over a couple of miles, and a good amount of rock scrambling. We will meet at the Scothorn Gap Trailhead (38.691653, -78.580034) on Crisman Hollow Road. **CARPOOLING:** We encourage those with cars to be willing to carpool - you're the ones who make LMH great! Meet at the outdoor plaza at McDonald’s across from the Rosslyn Metro entrance on N. Moore Street. Street parking on Sundays should be free, but double check just in case. This is an 8 mile hike that will start on N. Lynn Street. We will cross the bridge, go into Georgetown, and heads towards the waterfront. From there we will use various streets to make our way to our first stop: East City Bookshop ([https://eastcitybookshop.com](https://eastcitybookshop.com)). Hi ladies. We will meet in front of the Nature Center and head to the two Observation decks. We will then hike Hickory Ridge, Ripple Rock, Overlook and Sugarbush trails to get approximately four miles total distance. We will walk approximately a 18 minute mile pace. Please wear appropriate hiking shoes.

Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/). Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. We'll get in around 4 miles at Three Creeks Metro Parks, primarily natural trails. 17-18 minute miles, no one left behind, and faster walkers are free to lead out. Optional lunch after! If you're joining for hiking all the metro parks, this is the sixth one!
