Founded in 2019.
Ceres Choice Mindfulness Meditation and personal development was started in November 2019, by me Sonia.
For the past 21 years I have worked as a social worker with the Government Department and in mental health services. I have worked under immense pressure, with high caseloads with a task list, whereby the more I completed, the more it increased. Ten years ago, I found myself diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I was constantly feeling sick, crying often without apparent reason and forgetting important tasks and not getting the job done properly. I had to do something to change this, as I did not want to get into a position where I had to leave social work altogether. But I had to find a way to deal with the daily stress of the job, as that was not going away.
So after much searching I came across and Mindfulness Meditation and a meditation group near my home that met fortnightly. From there, with the support of a wonderful meditation teacher, daily practice and commitment I learnt to manage my depression and anxiety, in that I could eventually return to normal duties at work.
I still experience anxiety and depression, but with the tools I learnt from mindfulness I can manage any bouts I experience and it doesn’t rule my life.
In 2019 I trained at the Melbourne Meditation Centre as a meditation teacher. I am a member of the Meditation Teachers Association. My aim now is to impart my skills and knowledge to other people who want to live with less stress and manage life’s difficulties better.
Stop, Breathe, Think, React.
This is the motto I live by now and aim to teach.
