What we’re about
This group is for people who enjoy good beer and thought-provoking conversation.
Each week we will be meeting to have drinks and to talk about cultural and philosophical questions, many of which relate to broader social issues. Respectful disagreement and debate are encouraged!
The questions we will be tackling range anywhere from the theoretical (free will, the existence of God, ethics) to the practical and political ("What can we as individuals do to help prevent further global warming?","Should the electoral college be eradicated totally or given more power in our election system?") The topics range broadly and the discussions are driven by the people who show up.
All free thinkers are welcome to join! It doesn't matter if you are a theist, an atheist, Aristotelian, Platonist, Taoist, Buddhist, Confucian, Stoic, Romantic, Analytical, Continental, subscribe to Eastern or Western philosophies, or that you simply just like to have stimulating conversations over a cold beer. You do not have to have any knowledge of philosophy or philosophers to participate. The only condition is that one should be open-minded and respectful of other's views.
There is NO COST to simply attend. You will, however, have to pay for your own drinks. Drinking is not a requirement to participate in the discussion. I encourage people to RSVP through the Jacksonville Beer and Philosophy Meetup.com page but it is not necessary. Last-minute attendees are welcome. Also, if you do drink, please drink responsibly. This group is about having fun, enjoying good beer and good discussion.
