Lake Harriet Spiritual Community (LHSC)

Rubem Lima is a Brazilian shaman who grew up in a tradition of Candomblé (the Afro-Brazilian version of the Yoruba religion called Ifa, Hispanic santería), French spiritism, and other mystic strands. He is a Mesa Carrier in the Peruvian Q’ero tradition, a Minister of Melchizedek, and a Lakota sweat lodge singer .
Rubem especially likes to function as a cultural and spiritual bridge, having grown up in Brazil of Pataxó (Native American) and Italian parents and having participated in rituals as diverse as Buddhist empowerment, Hindu services, Native American sun dances, and Russian Orthodox services.

Teresa Heupel is an ordained minister, speaker, and creator of Steady By Design™. She weaves together nervous system wisdom, contemplative insight, and grounded presence to guide individuals and communities back to a deeper inner steadiness—especially in times that feel uncertain or reactive. Where there is tension, she brings calm. Where there is noise, she invites stillness.
On this Sunday morning, Teresa will gently open a space of reflection around a profound truth: the world we experience is often a mirror, revealing the inner landscape we carry within us. As we shift what lives inside—our thoughts, our beliefs, our nervous system—we begin to witness a different world unfolding around us.
As part of this experience, Teresa will premiere her original composition, “What You Believe, You’ll Receive,” offered through piano and voice. This will not simply be a performance, but a shared moment of connection—where the audience is invited to sing along, allowing the message to be felt, embodied, and carried within.
Come not just to listen, but to experience… to soften… and to remember the steadiness that has been within you all along.

Walk-ins welcome! You don't have to be an LHSC member or join this Meetup to attend. Don't be discouraged if there aren't many RSVPs; there are lots of folks who aren't on Meetup who will be there too!

Please join us on the second Sundays of the Month from 7:00-9:00pm for Kirtan at the Lake Harriet Spiritual Community. We will be gathering in the Sanctuary, a beautiful open chamber with spacious high ceilings and resonant acoustics. Chanting is planned for around 90 minutes with light snacks and gathering time afterwards.

For seating there are many comfy padded chairs available. Bringing your own yoga mat/blanket/bolster is recommended if you want to sit on the open floor space in front. Last month we had around 50 people in attendance and it could be helpful to arrive a little early for ease of parking and entering the space.

About Kirtan:
Kirtan weaves music and mantra together as a part of Bhakti yoga, the path of divine love. We'll be chanting and connecting to our hearts through music, poetry, and the sounds of the harmonium, violin and guitar. Featuring Jordan Lawrence on Harmonium and Vocals, and Peter Clausen on Violin and Guitar.

All faiths and cultural backgrounds are welcome as we explore Sanskrit mantras fused with heartfelt poetry and prayers. A requested donation of $10-20 is greatly appreciated to support the musicians and Lake Harriet Spiritual Community. No one turned away due to lack of funds.

About Jordan Lawrence:
Jordan is a musician and poet who uses word and sound as vehicles for connection to himself and the moment. He has been creating and facilitating spaces for healing through music and meditation since 2020.

He has attended workshops with Krishna Das, Girish, and David Newman, and local Kirtan artists throughout the Midwest. He offers and explores the healing modalities that have been the most impactful for his healing journey, primarily focusing on community collaborations and healing through sacred sounds and songs.
