Join the Loma Prieta Pride Sierrans on a 4.8-mile late spring wildflower hike at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve. The grasslands here are famous for displays of wildflowers in spring, depending on the weather.
The geologic history of Edgewood is traced back over 35,000 million years ago when rock that underlies much of this region was formed by two converging tectonic plates. Serpentinite, a rare rock type, is found at Edgewood. This rock is a very unique feature of the Park that can be observed in the serpentine grasslands and rock outcroppings. The human history shows hunters were in the region 6,000 years ago. Two Ohlone archeological sites have been found nearby, one at Filoli Estates and one at Phleger Estates.
We'll hike a loop along the Edgewood, Sylvan, Serpentine, and Sunset trails and return back on the Edgewood trail.
We'll meet at 10:30 am at the Edgewood trailhead on Edgewood Rd near the intersection with Canada Rd. (Please note that this is not the main park entrance.)
Edgewood Road can be accessed from hw 280 taking the Edgewood Road exit. Go west on Edgewood Road for .7 mile to the intersection of Canada Road where roadside parking is available.
Bring plenty of water, snacks, layers, sun protection and poles if you use them. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and a sun hat.
This hike is limited to 10 participants.
