Kurosawa’s RASHOMON (1950) film @5, discussion after in JAPANTOWN

Sat, May 30, 11:30 PM
From San Francisco Movie Club

It’s hard to rank the films of Akira Kurosawa, who gave us Ikiru, Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, High & Low, and Ran among his stunning 30-film career. But “Rashomon” (1950) makes most film lovers’ Kurosawa Top Ten and often Top Five - it’s the pivotal moment when multi-perspective storytelling entered mainstream cinema. Of course you might see this entirely differently…. To attend this event, you have to BUY a TICKET (HERE: https://roxie.com/series/nippon-vibes-japanese-cinema-weekend-at-new-people/), come to the event, and come to the discussion afterward (at a local Japantown restaurant or pub TBD). Please only RSVP if you’re planning to buy a ticket, see the film, and come discuss it afterwards! Save spots for those who are coming.

**This month’s pick is Bridget Jones's Diary**. This is the movie that had me fully convinced Renée Zellweger was actually British for far too long. It also gave me the unrealistic but delightful expectation that I’d meet my own Mr. Darcy and that my 20s would be effortlessly glamorous… we can all dream, right? **\*This event will take place at my apartment in Hayes/Alamo Square. We'll be watching the film via my projector.** **Snacks and drinks will be provided (or bring a favorite to share!).**
