Sunday western loop at gruppetto pace (62+ km at 20 kph avg)

Sun, May 17, 7:00 AM
From Paris Cycling B-Group
4.8

**Details** * When -- 9h Sunday, May 17 * Where -- Place de la Porte de Chatillon * Length -- 62+ km * Average speed -- 20 km/h * Strava route -- **[Gif-sur-Yvette-Suresnes-loop](https://www.strava.com/routes/3462908987930881432)** This ride is with the "gruppetto," the Italian term for the group of cyclists that often forms on mountain stages of the professional grand tours behind the main peloton. It is typically populated with sprinters and domestiques who may lack the climbing skills of the contenders and those saving themselves for another day. We will head south toward Palaiseau before turning right at Gif-sur-Yvette (potential coffee stop) and coming back through Versailles and Bois de Boulogne on our return to Paris. We should be back around noon, before the forecast rain. By the end we will have averaged about 20 kph, with higher speeds on flat stretches of the route and slower on the climbs, of course. As always, please check the following before you arrive Sunday: * do you have the cycling fitness and experience for this ride? no half-wheeling, try to stay around 30cm away from the wheel in front of you. * safety comes first: no helmet, no PCB ride. * this ride is for road bikes/velos de route, not for mountain or city bikes etc. * bring spare tube, bidons, energy bars, gels, etc. * bring money/card in case you need it. ***REMINDER***\*: PCB rides are **no-drop** with a focus on staying together. Our rides fill a niche and are designed for people who want to ride in a group, together, at a medium pace with others who are more interested in the experience than in riding as fast as possible. We regroup at the tops of significant climbs and key turns, so no one gets left behind. *If you are looking for something different, perhaps a weekend training ride with a faster group of cyclists who compete in races and triathlons, **then this is not the group for you**. I recommend checking out [Paris Cycling Group](https://www.meetup.com/Paris-Cycling-Group/), which typically feature rides at an average speed of 25-30 kph. There are other groups, as well, which are organized by several bike shops in Paris.* *For more information about Paris Cycling B-group, please check out our What We Are About section on our MeetUp landing page.*

RESCHEDULED: PCB Happy Hour on the Seine

RESCHEDULED: PCB Happy Hour on the Seine

Thu, May 21, 4:00 PM
From Paris Cycling B-Group
4.8

**THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO THURSDAY, MAY 21** Come on out for an opportunity to socialize off the bikes and see if we can recognize each other out of our kits and get a free instant portrait that other people will pay for... someday, hopefully. I plan to bring my 1955 Graflex Pacemaker Speed Graphic, a 4x5 camera (older than me) affixed with a film back so I can shoot instant film made by Fuji (Instax wide). We will meet where we did last August at **[Scilicet](http://www.scilicet.fr/)**, the outdoor pub at 134 Voie George Pompidou, which is on the quai on the right bank across from Ile de la Cité just west of Pont au Change (the western-most bridge to the island). **[Google maps link](https://maps.app.goo.gl/GQzc9UYqYWtjtQhe6) [Menu link](https://scilicet.fr/la-carte/).** Apparently, meeting friends along the Seine and bringing your own drinks is no longer allowed, as now drinks must be served by a pub. So, my idea to meet in a public space and bring our own would need to happen elsewhere. Perhaps we can discuss other possibilities for future events, such as on the steps of the Eglise Saint Etienne du Mont at [Place Sainte-Geneviève, 75005 ParisPlace Sainte-Geneviève, 75005 Paris](https://www.google.com/maps/place//data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x47e671e624cfb4ab:0x52a5c9e5c0e6ee3?sa=X&ved=1t:8290&ictx=111). Bring better ideas with you next Thursday!
