South Melbourne to St Kilda Pier Beach Walk
Sat, Aug 29, 8:15 AMJoin us for a relaxed evening walk along the beach from South Melbourne towards St Kilda Pier. We’ll follow the waterfront path, with bay views, beach paths, and a social, low-pressure pace. The full AllTrails route is about 7.1 km return, listed as moderate, with minimal elevation. AllTrails also lists it as an out-and-back trail, so we can keep the plan flexible depending on how people are feeling. You can choose what suits you: * Shorter option: walk one way towards St Kilda Pier and head off from there. Trams are available nearby. * Full option: walk back with the group towards South Melbourne. This is a casual walk, not a fitness challenge. We’ll keep an easy social pace, and you’re welcome to leave early if you prefer the shorter option. **Links** Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/nGWgU4Fni1xPMgPG7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/nGWgU4Fni1xPMgPG7) AllTrails route link: [https://www.alltrails.com/trail/australia/victoria/st-kilda-pier-via-south-melbourne-beach](https://www.alltrails.com/trail/australia/victoria/st-kilda-pier-via-south-melbourne-beach) **Rough timeline** * 6:15pm – Meet outside South Melbourne Life Saving Club * 6:30pm – Start walking towards St Kilda * Around 7:15pm – Arrive near St Kilda Pier / short-walk finish option * 7:15–8:30pm – Return walk towards South Melbourne, with optional food or gelato depending on the group * 8:30pm – Meetup ends **What to bring** Comfortable walking shoes, water, and a warm layer. **What to expect** * Distance: About 7.1 km return for the full option * Difficulty: Moderate according to AllTrails, but mostly straightforward waterfront walking * Pace: Slow, easy, and social * Vibe: Relaxed, low-pressure, and welcoming to solo attendees **Important notes** * You can do the shorter one-way option and finish near St Kilda Pier. * You can leave early if needed. * The walk is weather-dependent, so please check the forecast and dress warmly. * We’ll aim to stay together, but the route is simple and flexible. * Optional food or gelato will depend on the group on the night.

Indoor Rock Climbing (Urban Climb Blackburn ) - First-time to Advanced
Mon, Sep 7, 8:00 AM**Urban Climb Blackburn** Never climbed before? No worries at all! You're very welcome here! Just complete a quick safety induction when you arrive and the staff will walk you through everything you need to know to climb safely indoors. It's easy, friendly, and won't take long. The venue has plenty to enjoy, including a bouldering cave, speed wall, sauna facilities, and sparkling water to keep you going. This group is primarily focused on rope climbing, top roping and lead climbing, but if you'd prefer to stick to bouldering while you find your feet, that's absolutely fine too! Many of our members have their lead pass and gear, but there's no pressure at all. **Finding us:** If you arrive on time, look for us gathered around the couches in the bouldering area. We're a friendly bunch, so just come and say hi! Running a little late? No stress, just let the staff up the front know you're with the Climb Meetup group and they'll make an announcement. Someone will come and find you and introduce you around. A few of our regulars also wear a black shirt with the old logo, so keep an eye out for those. **A note on numbers:** The meetup runs every Monday and many regular members come along independently without RSVPing through the group, so the crowd is often bigger than it looks on the attendee list! If you're ever unsure whether people will be there or worried it might be a tiny group, feel free to drop the organisers a message beforehand and we'll put your mind at ease. **Fees:** Entry is paid directly to Urban Climb. You can find current pricing at [urbanclimb.com.au/pricing](https://urbanclimb.com.au/pricing/). If you hold a climbing membership elsewhere, it's worth checking your member benefits as you may be eligible for a discount. For venue info and the first-time waiver, visit [urbanclimb.com.au/locations/blackburn](https://urbanclimb.com.au/locations/blackburn/). **Stay connected:** We also have a facebook group [https://www.facebook.com/groups/663576119053808](https://www.facebook.com/groups/663576119053808) with a chat function; a great way to connect with members before or after a session!

Planetarium Nights: Space Tour at Melbourne Planetarium
Fri, Sep 4, 10:30 AMJoin me for a night under the dome at the Melbourne Planetarium for **Space Tour**, a 50-minute fulldome film that takes you out to black holes, exoplanets, wormholes, auroras and supernova remnants — all set to rock and pop hits. It's the kind of thing that's hard to describe and very easy to enjoy: you sit back, look up, and the whole ceiling becomes space. This is part of Scienceworks' Planetarium Nights, which Museums Victoria runs on Friday nights for adults only (18+). We're going along to the **9:00pm session on Friday 4 September**. We'll meet outside the Planetarium gates at 8:30pm for a quick hello, head in around 8:45pm to scan tickets and find seats, and the film starts at 9:00pm. It runs about 50 minutes, so we'll be done around 10:00pm and the meetup finishes there. This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Museums Victoria or Scienceworks. Please book your own ticket directly with them; an RSVP here doesn't include entry. **Who this is for** * Anyone curious about space, or who just likes a beautiful thing to look at * No knowledge or fitness required — you're sitting in a reclined seat the whole time * Solo attendees are very welcome; plenty of people come on their own and it's an easy crowd * 18+ only, as this is an adults-only event **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xkbsTuYhPdoL1mKj8 * Planetarium Nights info and tickets: https://museumsvictoria.com.au/scienceworks/whats-on/planetarium-nights/ * Space Tour trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNK3LpFvfr0 **Timeline** * 8:30pm – Meet outside the Planetarium gates and say hello * 8:45pm – Head inside and scan tickets * 9:00pm – Film starts * \~10:00pm – Film ends and the meetup finishes **Tickets / cost** * Book your own ticket directly through the Museums Victoria site — we're not booking as a group * Museums Victoria currently lists single-session tickets at $25 adult, $22 concession, $20 member * Make sure you book the **9:00pm session on Friday 4 September** (there's also a 7:30pm session that night showing a different film) * Worth booking ahead — these sessions can sell out * Prices and availability are as listed by Museums Victoria and can change, so check the site when you book **Transport** * Spotswood Station is a short walk from Scienceworks, on the Werribee and Williamstown lines * There's on-site parking at Scienceworks * Check the PTV app for return services, as trains thin out later in the evening **Bring** * Your ticket (on your phone is fine) * ID if you look under 18 — it's an 18+ event * A jacket, it's September and we're meeting outside * Cash or card if you'd like a drink from the bar **Expect** * Difficulty: none — it's a seated screening * Pace: relaxed * Vibe: chilled, curious, easy conversation before and after * Group style: friendly and low-pressure, come as you are **Important notes** * This is an 18+ event and entry is up to Museums Victoria staff * A Meetup RSVP is not a ticket and doesn't guarantee entry — please book your own * Please arrive by 8:30pm so we're not scrambling at the door; latecomers may not be admitted once the film starts * Please follow all venue rules and staff instructions, and look after yourself getting there and home * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear
Cumberland River and Lorne Waterfalls hike

South Melbourne to Frankston Coastal Bike Ride (50km or 100km Option)
Sat, Aug 29, 10:45 PMJoin me for a big, scenic ride down the bay — South Melbourne all the way to Frankston, hugging the coast the whole way. We'll meet outside the South Melbourne Life Saving Club at 8:45am for a quick hello, then roll out at 9:00am. The plan is a casual, social pace along the beach, staying together as a group with regroup points at the nice spots so no one gets left behind. We'll aim to reach Frankston around 12:30pm for a proper break and lunch. From there you've got two options. Do the \~50km one-way and catch the train home from Frankston, or turn around and ride back for the full \~100km. Both are completely fine — pick whatever suits you on the day. This is a long ride. Even at a relaxed pace, it's best suited to people who've done at least one 50–100km ride in the last few months. **Who this is for** * Riders with reasonable fitness who've recently done a 50km+ ride * Anyone keen on a long, social day out along the coast rather than a workout or a race * Solo riders very welcome — plenty of chatting along the way and at lunch **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/hZJc1HySxETfyy4KA **Timeline** * 8:45am – Meet outside South Melbourne Life Saving Club and say hi * 9:00am – Roll out and head south along the coast * 12:30pm – Reach Frankston, take a break and grab lunch 1:30pm – Option A: catch the train back from Frankston (\~50km done). – Option B: ride back to South Melbourne for the full \~100km * \~5:00pm – Full-loop riders arrive back at South Melbourne (approximate — depends on pace and breaks) **Transport** Frankston is on the Metro Frankston line, so the \~50km riders can train it home. Bikes are allowed on Melbourne trains — just avoid blocking doorways and give priority to other passengers. **Bring** * A bike in good working condition (please give it a once-over beforehand) * Helmet * Front and rear lights * Plenty of water * Weather-appropriate clothing (layers are smart for an early start) * A puncture repair kit (and the know-how to use it) * Snacks, and some cash/card for lunch and the train **Expect** * Difficulty: long distance, but a relaxed pace * Pace: casual and social — we ride together, not to drop anyone * Vibe: friendly, chatty, take-in-the-view * Group style: regroup points at scenic spots so we stay together **Important notes** * This isn't a race — it's a social ride, and we'll go at a comfortable group pace. * Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and you're comfortable with the distance you're taking on. * Weather-dependent: I'll post an update if conditions look unsafe, so keep an eye on the event page. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear. * Please ride within your own ability, obey road rules and share paths courteously with walkers and other riders. * You're joining at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety, gear and wellbeing on the day.
