Oktoberfest Opening Night at Hofbräuhaus Melbourne
Sat, Sep 19, 10:00 AMJoin me for a night of German food, big steins and oompah music at Hofbräuhaus Melbourne, right in the heart of Chinatown. Saturday 19th September is their Oktoberfest opening day — Hofbräuhaus says this is their 58th Oktoberfest, with live music, Bavarian competitions and imported German biers, running from 19th September through to 31st October. We'll meet outside the gates on Market Lane at 8:00pm, say hello, then head inside around 8:15pm to get seated and eat. The plan is to wrap up around 10:00pm, but you're welcome to leave earlier or stay on — the venue runs late. I haven't booked the table yet and will reserve closer to the date once I know numbers, so please RSVP early and keep your RSVP accurate. This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together — it isn't run by or affiliated with Hofbräuhaus. Everyone orders and pays for their own food and drinks on the night. **Who this is for** * Anyone who likes German food, beer halls, live music and a bit of noise * People who fancy trying Oktoberfest without needing to know anything about it * Coming on your own is completely fine — plenty of people do, and you'll be sitting with the group **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/7Z2WdM6mspputJpA6 * Hofbräuhaus Oktoberfest 2026: https://www.hofbrauhaus.com.au/oktoberfest-2026/ * Opening Party info: https://www.hofbrauhaus.com.au/oktoberfest-2026/opening-party/ * Menu (please check the website for the latest version, this may get outdated): https://www.hofbrauhaus.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Winter-2026.pdf * Video: https://vimeo.com/1112285666 **Timeline** * 8:00pm – Meet outside the gates of Hofbräuhaus Melbourne and say hello * 8:15pm – Head inside, get seated and order food * 10:00pm – Meetup officially ends (leave earlier or stay longer, entirely up to you) **Tickets / cost** * Hofbräuhaus states that Oktoberfest is a non-ticketed event, though they recommend bookings during the season * No cost to RSVP here — everyone simply pays for their own food and drinks on the night * I'll arrange the table booking for our group closer to the date **Transport** * Trams 86 and 96 run along Bourke Street and stop close by * Nearest train station is Parliament * Car parks on Bourke Street and Russell Street, plus street parking nearby * Address: 18–28 Market Lane, Melbourne CBD (in Chinatown) **Bring** * Cash or card for your own food and drinks * Photo ID * A jacket **Expect** * Difficulty: none, it's eating and drinking * Pace: relaxed, seated for most of the night * Vibe: loud, festive and busy — opening night is their big one * Group style: casual and friendly, easy to join if you don't know anyone **Important notes** * This is a licensed venue and an 18+ night out. Please bring photo ID, and note that RSA applies — staff can refuse service. * I'll reserve the table closer to the date, so an accurate RSVP genuinely helps. If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear. * I'll confirm whether we're in the restaurant or the Bierhall once the booking is made. Note that Hofbräuhaus says the Bierhall is on the first floor with no lift access. * Opening night will be busy, so seating and service may take a little longer than usual. Please be patient and friendly with the staff. * Hofbräuhaus notes that groups over a certain size may dine on their function packages rather than à la carte. I'll let everyone know if that applies to us. * Please look after yourself and each other, drink at your own pace and make your own way home safely. You're joining at your own risk and are responsible for your own wellbeing on the night. **Other info** * Hofbräuhaus says the keg tapping and Stein Carrying Competition happen at lunchtime only on 19th September, so we'll miss those — but their Bavarian competitions and live music run into the evening too.

Indoor Rock Climbing (Urban Climb Blackburn ) - First-time to Advanced
Mon, Sep 14, 8:00 AM**Urban Climb Blackburn** Never climbed before? No worries at all! You're very welcome here! Just complete a quick safety induction when you arrive and the staff will walk you through everything you need to know to climb safely indoors. It's easy, friendly, and won't take long. The venue has plenty to enjoy, including a bouldering cave, speed wall, sauna facilities, and sparkling water to keep you going. This group is primarily focused on rope climbing, top roping and lead climbing, but if you'd prefer to stick to bouldering while you find your feet, that's absolutely fine too! Many of our members have their lead pass and gear, but there's no pressure at all. **Finding us:** If you arrive on time, look for us gathered around the couches in the bouldering area. We're a friendly bunch, so just come and say hi! Running a little late? No stress, just let the staff up the front know you're with the Climb Meetup group and they'll make an announcement. Someone will come and find you and introduce you around. A few of our regulars also wear a black shirt with the old logo, so keep an eye out for those. **A note on numbers:** The meetup runs every Monday and many regular members come along independently without RSVPing through the group, so the crowd is often bigger than it looks on the attendee list! If you're ever unsure whether people will be there or worried it might be a tiny group, feel free to drop the organisers a message beforehand and we'll put your mind at ease. **Fees:** Entry is paid directly to Urban Climb. You can find current pricing at [urbanclimb.com.au/pricing](https://urbanclimb.com.au/pricing/). If you hold a climbing membership elsewhere, it's worth checking your member benefits as you may be eligible for a discount. For venue info and the first-time waiver, visit [urbanclimb.com.au/locations/blackburn](https://urbanclimb.com.au/locations/blackburn/). **Stay connected:** We also have a facebook group [https://www.facebook.com/groups/663576119053808](https://www.facebook.com/groups/663576119053808) with a chat function; a great way to connect with members before or after a session!

South Melbourne to St Kilda Pier Beach Walk
Sun, Sep 20, 8:15 AMJoin us for a relaxed evening walk along the beach from South Melbourne towards St Kilda Pier. We’ll follow the waterfront path, with bay views, beach paths, and a social, low-pressure pace. The full AllTrails route is about 7.1 km return, listed as moderate, with minimal elevation. AllTrails also lists it as an out-and-back trail, so we can keep the plan flexible depending on how people are feeling. You can choose what suits you: * Shorter option: walk one way towards St Kilda Pier and head off from there. Trams are available nearby. * Full option: walk back with the group towards South Melbourne. This is a casual walk, not a fitness challenge. We’ll keep an easy social pace, and you’re welcome to leave early if you prefer the shorter option. **Links** Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/nGWgU4Fni1xPMgPG7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/nGWgU4Fni1xPMgPG7) AllTrails route link: [https://www.alltrails.com/trail/australia/victoria/st-kilda-pier-via-south-melbourne-beach](https://www.alltrails.com/trail/australia/victoria/st-kilda-pier-via-south-melbourne-beach) **Rough timeline** * 6:15pm – Meet outside South Melbourne Life Saving Club * 6:30pm – Start walking towards St Kilda * Around 7:15pm – Arrive near St Kilda Pier / short-walk finish option * 7:15–8:30pm – Return walk towards South Melbourne, with optional food or gelato depending on the group * 8:30pm – Meetup ends **What to bring** Comfortable walking shoes, water, and a warm layer. **What to expect** * Distance: About 7.1 km return for the full option * Difficulty: Moderate according to AllTrails, but mostly straightforward waterfront walking * Pace: Slow, easy, and social * Vibe: Relaxed, low-pressure, and welcoming to solo attendees **Important notes** * You can do the shorter one-way option and finish near St Kilda Pier. * You can leave early if needed. * The walk is weather-dependent, so please check the forecast and dress warmly. * We’ll aim to stay together, but the route is simple and flexible. * Optional food or gelato will depend on the group on the night.

Beginner-Friendly Golf Night at Melbourne Golf Park
Fri, Sep 18, 8:30 AMJoin me for a relaxed evening at the driving range at Melbourne Golf Park in Albert Park. This is a laid-back hit at a floodlit range overlooking Albert Park Lake — no experience needed, and honestly I'm a beginner myself, so we'll be figuring it out together. We'll meet at the reception at 6:30pm to say hello, then head to the bays around 6:45pm and start whacking some balls. You buy your own bucket of balls (and hire clubs if you need them) at reception, so you can do as many balls as you like at your own pace. The venue says the range is undercover across 40 of its bays, so a bit of weather shouldn't stop us. This is not a lesson and not a competition — just a fun, low-pressure night out having a swing. If you've never picked up a club before, you're exactly who this is for. This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together — it isn't run by or affiliated with Melbourne Golf Park. You buy your own balls and any club hire directly with them on the night, and an RSVP here isn't a ticket or guaranteed entry. **Who this is for** * Complete beginners and anyone who's never played golf — no experience or gear needed * Casual players who just want a relaxed social hit * Solo attendees are very welcome — plenty of us will be turning up on our own, so come say hi **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8HjWCQHERuCT9CL99 * Melbourne Golf Park: https://www.melbournegolfpark.com.au/ * Driving range: https://www.melbournegolfpark.com.au/driving-range * Pricing: https://www.melbournegolfpark.com.au/costs#driving-range **Timeline** * 6:30pm – Meet at the reception of Melbourne Golf Park and say hi * 6:45pm – Head to the bays and start hitting * 8:15pm – Meetup ends **Tickets / cost** * There's no charge to join the meetup, but you pay the venue directly for your own balls and any club hire at reception. * The range is walk-in with no booking needed for our group size, so just pay as you arrive. **Transport** The range is at 23 Aughtie Drive, Albert Park, right beside MSAC at the northern end of the parkland, only minutes from the CBD. There's parking on-site, or it's an easy trip by tram/bus if you'd rather not drive — check your route on the night. **Bring** * Your own clubs if you have them (otherwise hire a club or two at reception) * Comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes — there's no dress code, so keep it easy * Water, and a card for balls and club hire **Expect** * Difficulty: none required — total beginners welcome * Pace: relaxed, hit at your own speed * Vibe: friendly, social and low-pressure * Group style: come solo or bring a friend, everyone's easy to chat to **Important notes** * Please swing within your own ability and stay aware of people hitting in the bays around you — follow all venue rules and any staff instructions. You're joining at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety on the day. * The range is mostly undercover, but if conditions look rough on the night I'll post an update — keep an eye on the event page. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so our numbers stay clear.
