Murray to Mountains Rail Trail : Wangaratta to Bright and Back
Fri, May 15, 8:30 PMJoin me for a two-day bikepacking weekend on the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, one of Victoria’s best-known rail trails. We’ll be riding the Wangaratta to Bright section, which is a sealed route through north-east Victoria. The plan is to ride from Wangaratta to Bright on Saturday, camp overnight in Bright, then ride back from Bright to Wangaratta on Sunday before catching the evening V/Line service back to Melbourne. This will be a rewarding weekend ride, but it is not a casual social ride. The goal is to enjoy the trail, keep a steady pace, look after each other, and complete the trip safely rather than rush. Reasonable fitness is required. You should only join if you are confident riding long distances for full days and carrying what you need for an overnight bikepacking trip. Solo attendees are very welcome, but please read the details carefully before RSVP’ing. **Links** Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/wqiZN7fa9f3AkPh67](https://maps.app.goo.gl/wqiZN7fa9f3AkPh67) Trail information: [https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/murray-to-mountains-rail-trail/](https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/murray-to-mountains-rail-trail/) Related YouTube videos: * [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbaWEL5Lczs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbaWEL5Lczs) * [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBWzddusnu4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBWzddusnu4) * [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7iw2VSHYmA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7iw2VSHYmA) **Rough timeline** **Saturday 16 May** * 6:30am — Meet outside V/Line Tickets and Information at Southern Cross Station * 7:07am — Planned V/Line departure from Southern Cross to Wangaratta * Around 9:47am — Arrive at Wangaratta * Late morning / afternoon — Ride from Wangaratta to Bright, approximately 82 km * Evening — Arrive in Bright, set up camp, dinner / rest **Sunday 17 May** * Morning — Pack up camp * Morning / afternoon — Ride from Bright back to Wangaratta, approximately 82 km * Evening — Catch the planned evening V/Line service from Wangaratta back to Melbourne * Around 10:00pm — Meetup ends at Southern Cross Station The exact timing on both days may change depending on pace, breaks, weather, train availability, and how the group is going. **Tickets** You’ll need to buy your own V/Line ticket. Please check the latest V/Line timetable and service updates before the trip, especially for coach replacements, disruptions, and bike availability. Camping details will be confirmed later, closer to the event. **Accommodation** This is a bikepacking trip, and we’ll be camping at one of the paid campsites in Bright. The exact campsite will be confirmed later, closer to the event. **What to bring** * A roadworthy bicycle suitable for long-distance riding * Helmet * Front and rear lights * Puncture repair kit and basic tools * Water and food * Clothes and gear for an overnight camping trip * Tent / sleep system or whatever camping setup you personally need * Wet weather / warm layers appropriate for the forecast * Phone, power bank, cards, and any personal medication * Anything else you personally need for a self-supported weekend ride **What to expect** * Distance: Approximately 82 km each way, about 164 km total over two days * Difficulty: Hard / endurance ride * Pace: Around 15 km/h, steady rather than fast * Vibe: Small-group, practical, low-pressure, and focused on completing the trip safely **Important notes** This event is weather dependent and will not go ahead if rain is forecast. This event is also dependent on V/Line train availability. It may need to be cancelled or changed if there are coach replacements, major timetable changes, limited bike capacity, or other disruptions. Bikes on V/Line trains are subject to available space, so please arrive prepared and allow extra time. There is always some risk that bike space may be limited. This is best suited to people who already have some experience with longer rides, bikepacking, or all-day cycling efforts. You should be comfortable riding long distances on consecutive days and carrying your own overnight gear. This is not a beginner ride and not a drop-in/drop-out style event. Please make sure you are confident with the distance, your bike, your gear, and your own ability before joining. **Other info** Please keep an eye on event updates closer to the date. I’ll update the page once the campsite and any final transport details are confirmed.

Lake Daylesford autumn colours (4 spots - road trip)
Fri, May 8, 10:45 PM[Instagram: Road Trips by The Dancing Voyager: Ron Singh](https://www.instagram.com/the_dancing_voyager_ron_trips) Weather looks good, so spontaneous day trip to Daylesford for autumn colours! Very short notice! These are always fun! Over 60 road trips done in 4 years! I run 3 Meetup groups (shown on my profile). This road trip is for people new to Australia who have not been to this location (International Students, Working Holiday Makers and tourists)! No evidence is required. I will trust you! **Details given below in sections: (1) Questions / (2) Road trip itinerary / (3) Payment / (4) Responsibility / (5) Breaks / (6) Weather / (7) Phone charging / (8) Contact** **\-\-\- \(1\) QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS \-\-\-** **Your questions for me:** Why is the total fee so low at $20, covering a new, large rental (SUV), fuel and driver, on something that seems really high quality and well planned, like a private tour company? Sounds too good to be true or that there is a catch. Is this genuine? **My answers to you:** Because this project is my community service to give back. I explain this further below. The low fee is just a formality to confirm your place, so that I know you are serious on attending. This is genuine. Over 60 road trips done in 4 years! I have created precious memories for many people new to Australia. Photos on Instagram link further above. **\-\-\- \(2\) ROAD TRIP SUMMARY AND ITINERARY \-\-\-** Day trip to Daylesford in autumn. Autumn is a truly beautiful time of the year! Daylesford is one of the best destinations in Victoria for autumnal bliss! **Itinerary:** **Scenic lookout stop - Pykes Creek Reservoir - Daylesford autumn leaves - Lake Daylesford and lookout - Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens and lookout** **Meeting point: Fed Square, 8:45 am**. Back there by **5:45 pm**. Meet by the steps (main entrance, opposite the Swanston Street tram stop). **\-\-\- \(3\) PAYMENT \-\-\-** **Total fee: $20 in total (no other costs). This covers a new, large rental (SUV), fuel and driver.** **Eventbrite link for payment:** [https://daylesford-road-trip.eventbrite.com.au](https://daylesford-road-trip.eventbrite.com.au/) **Cancellations:** If I cancel the road trip for any unforeseen issues, a full refund will be given. If you cancel, there is no refund. **Why is the fee so low?** The low fee is just a formality. It might sound too good to be true or that there is a catch. There is no catch. I am simply someone who has been giving back for many years. I playfully call this project a “Melbourne travel secret”! There are people in this world who want to genuinely give back without any expectations because they are truly fulfilled and grateful for what they have. I am one of those people. This is my community service. I am not doing this for money and I never have. Money cannot buy passion. The nature of majestic Australia helped me find peace and passion and I want to give back by sharing that inspiring nature with people new to this country. If they are also inspired by that nature, then that is my reward. There is no hidden agenda in doing this project. The reason I am being quite upfront is because in this day and age, there is always a catch when people do something like this. There is none with me and I am not selling or promoting anything. I do not need anything because I have peace, passion and fulfilment. I have everything. I am truly humbled and grateful. Photos from road trips are on Instagram link below: [Instagram: Road Trips by The Dancing Voyager: Ron Singh](https://www.instagram.com/the_dancing_voyager_ron_trips) **\-\-\- \(4\) RESPONSIBILITY\, LIABILITY\, SAFETY \-\-\-** As your driver, I am responsible and liable for your safety while we are in the vehicle. Passengers are insured as per the Australian law. For times we are outside the vehicle, we then become responsible for our own liability and safety, just like every other capable adult in society. **\-\-\- \(5\) BREAKS/MEALS \-\-\-** There will be many breaks for sightseeing/walks. I will stop at places where food/snacks will be sold but you are welcome to bring your own as well. There will be a lunch break at either a cafe or takeaway shop. **\-\-\- \(6\) WEATHER AND WHAT TO WEAR \-\-\-** I plan events when weather looks good but please also see itinerary for location details and check the forecast to dress accordingly. My advice is to always be prepared! Recommend to have something to cover you if rain suddenly appears or if winds suddenly get cool. Also recommend to carry sunscreen and a hat. Please also wear good, comfortable shoes that can provide protection from water (in case there are muddy areas). You can bring many things, as the vehicle will have a lot of storage space. My road trips do not have a lot of long walks. The focus is on sightseeing, relaxing and appreciating the beauty of nature. **\-\-\- \(7\) PHONE CHARGING \-\-\-** Please charge your phone before joining. In the past, people have taken lots of videos and photos and used up their batteries! You can bring your charging cable if you want. The vehicle will have various charging ports. **\-\-\- \(8\) CONTACT \-\-\-** If you need to contact me, please reach out through Meetup, Eventbrite or Instagram. If you wanted my mobile number, please let me know.
