May Book Club: This is where the serpent lives

Sat, May 16, 2:00 PM
From Dvar Paris Reading Group

Excited to announce our first book club meet! 📚 If you’re in Paris and interested in literature, we will be reading and discussing This Is Where the Serpent Lives by Daniyal Mueenuddin in May. Orphaned as a little boy and fending for himself in the city streets, Yazid rises to a place of responsibility and respect in the Lahore household of Colonel Atar, a powerful industrialist and politician. Born on Colonel Atar’s country estate to a poor gardener, Saqib is entrusted with the management of a pioneering business, but he overreaches and finds himself an outlaw. The colonel’s son competes with his cherished brother for the love of a woman and discovers that her choice colours his life. Moving from Pakistan’s dazzling chaotic cities to its lawless feudal countryside, This Is Where the Serpent Lives powerfully evokes contemporary feudal Pakistan, following the destinies of a dozen unforgettable characters whose lives are linked through violence and tragedy, triumph, and love.

April Book Club: Why I Write by George Orwell

Sat, Apr 25, 12:00 PM
From Paris Non-Fiction Book Club
4.8

For the meeting in April, we'll read and discuss Why I Write by George Orwell Sorry for the short notice to those who were there in the previous book club - having to do on an earlier date as I am no longer available on the 2nd of May - the date discussed during the meeting Description from Goodreads: Whether puncturing the lies of politicians, wittily dissecting the English character or telling unpalatable truths about war, Orwell's timeless, uncompromising essays are more relevant, entertaining and essential than ever in today's era of spin. **\*New to book club? You're welcome to join our discussion. We'll discuss our thoughts on the book and share related topics.** **\*Discussions held in English**

5.0

Sun, Apr 26, 12:00 PM
From Cercle parisien des littératures de l'imaginaire
5.0
