Macon Downtown walk and talk- 18th Annual Central Georgia Greek Festival

Details

This is going to be an easy-pace 2-3 mile walk and talk to explore the history of Macon through the lens of urban design and architecture of downtown Macon, and attending the Greek Festival.
Meeting place: Washington Park.

Walking through downtown Macon feels like stepping back in time. Many of the buildings date to the 1800s, when the city was becoming a cultural and economic hub of Georgia. Red brick storefronts line the streets, their tall windows and iron balconies showing off the craftsmanship of the era. Some buildings feature ornate cornices and columns, echoing Greek Revival and Victorian styles that were popular in the South during the 19th century.

Downtown Macon’s historic architecture is more than just beautiful—it tells the story of a city shaped by industry, culture, and resilience since the 1800s.

After:

  • We will go to the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church were we will enjoy the delicious homemade Greek cuisine like Gyros, Baklava, Greek salad, etc., authentic live Greek music and dancing.
