What we’re about
Classes will re-open online in 2025!
Drawing on my background and experience as a qualified psychotherapist and dancer, I'm now offering 1:1 online sessions in therapeutic dance. Please message me directly if interested! These 40 minute individual classes take place in a space with enough room to move - just a small corner of a room with space to stretch out works! - and with comfortable clothes. Each session begins with talking to clarify what the client would like to explore or what's been going on in life recently. From there, we shift attention to the physical body, breath, sensations and how the body wants to move, giving space for insights to come from an embodied place. We incorporate simple movement practices to deepen awareness, release stress and support emotional integration. The session ends with talking to make sense of what is new, what has changed, and the meaning of this for the client in their life.
In these classes...
· We’ll slow down and use somatic exercises to feel more ‘in’ our body. We'll mindfully 'tune in' to ourselves so we can become more sensitive to impulses.
· We’ll discover new ways of moving and instead of following a choreography, will let dances freely emerge from authentic places inside us.
· Through improvising we’ll have space to be creative and playful, bringing more brightness and openness to your experience (&maybe life?!)
- We'll grow in trust and self-confidence as we get familiar with knowing that our dances come naturally from our unique inner landscape.
My own background includes 30 years of dance training in ballet, tap, jazz, dance traditions from Nigeria, Butoh and The Seki Method, Gaga and 5Rhythms.
Training and working as a psychotherapist gave me new possibilities for my explorations into ‘everything can be danced’…a cloud, the blue space between two clouds, my relationship with my grandma, heartache, archetypes, a protective bubble…Innate Dance is a joyful approach to movement where we let dances freely emerge from our inner landscape. We are moved by the imagination, emotions and impulses, which increases self-connection and develops trust in our creativity.
I blend what I know in these classes.
They are open to everyone, whether you are an experienced dancer curious to explore, or are a complete beginner who doesn’t know your left foot from your right! You are very welcome.
