Friday Night Drinks @ Captain Seaweeds!!

Details

Hey everyone! Sorry this getting posted a little late, the weekend got away from Eddie lol Federal Hill Summer Festival was fun (and maybe a little chaotic), but let's do something a little more relaxed this week. Seems like a great time to check out one of favorite dive bars with a killer outdoor patio. Let's shake off the work week with a couple drinks at Captain Seaweeds!

Just a quick FYI. We're setting the duration a little shorter than normal since many of the hosts are going on a day trip Saturday morning. Not sure how late we'll stay since we have to drive in the am. We know Sunday events are tough for many with work, and we didn't want to miss another weekend this summer. However, while the meetup may be over once the host(s) call it a night, that doesn't mean everyone has to head home. :)

If you've never been, Captain Seaweeds is a bit of a sleeper bar. It looks like your average dive bar from the street. Even the first couple steps through the door you'd never be able to guess what they have in store. However, take one step outside to their outdoor patio and you'll find yourself in one of the best themed spots in the city. The outdoor patio sports wall to wall nautical decorations, which feels as if a pirate tavern decided to throw a tiki night haha There's of course plenty of outdoor seating considering all the effort to make it a fun experience. If the weather isn't on our side they put out rows of tarps to keep the outdoor seating available. One time we went it was thundering, and it only made the nautical vibes even better. There's also a pool table inside if people want to play a few games.

Luckily, the over the top theming doesn't come with high drink prices. Captain Seaweeds is one of the cheaper spots to drink in the city. They offer a house lager, which isn't the strongest ABV wise, but it's dirt cheap. They even sell it in pitchers, if you're feeling generous or just want to save a couple trips to the bar haha. Their beer selection is solid. They also have a full bar if you want a cocktail to kick off the weekend. Sadly, despite the theming, Captain Seaweeds doesn't specialize in any tiki cocktails. They can make pretty much any staple cocktail, but they're not a spot to ask for anything overly crafty or involved. However, last time they did have drink specials that were somewhat tiki adjacent. Hopefully, they'll have them again. There's also plenty of canned options if you're looking for a seltzer or something similar.

Captain Seaweeds doesn't offer much food wise, they may have snacks available. In the past they didn't mind people bringing in outside food, but please check with the staff before just in case. If they are still cool with it, there's a great taqueria down the street called Tallulah's we recommend.

Like we said, the host(s) are likely to take off earlier than normal. However, if everyone is having a good time please feel free to keep the night going as a group. If the weather is decent, there's some good spots a short walk away. The Point Tavern is a little more pricey but has some solid more crafty cocktails compared to Seaweeds. Wickeden Pub is a solid beer bar in the same vein as Seaweeds vibe wise (not too sure how extensive their cocktails may be but they can certainly make some). A little further of a walk is Hot Club and Fish Co.

Just a quick disclaimer. Once the host(s) leave that is technically the end of the event. We do not have any control as to what happens after that point. We just ask that everyone stays respectful to their fellow members (not that we ever have an issue). If the group stays together until later in the night great. However, the meetup is over so please don't feel obligated. Feel free to splinter off to do your own thing if you'd prefer, you're not expected to include everyone. If people do choose to leave in smaller groups, please try to be respectful of that.

Please reach out to the host(s) if you have any questions, or feel free to leave a comment. Looking forward to see everyone! :D
