Providence Flea & Mid Afternoon Drinks!!

Details

Hey everyone!! The weather on Friday is looking a little iffy at time we are writing this and downtown is going to be swamped with Watefire on Saturday. We figured this may be a good weekend to try something a little different and see what people think. Let's check out the Providence Flea while they're still doing their outdoor markets! Don't worry we'll be doing something a little closer to our usual Fri/Sat events next weekend.

Quick Note: This event is weather sensitive. So far the forecast looks good, but if anything changes we'll adjust our plans. Likely to something simple such as enjoying a couple drinks at a bar nearby. If the weather looks iffy on the day, please just keep an eye on the event :) We'll make sure to post a comment as well.

If you've never been to the Providence Flea it's a fun time. When some hear the word flea market you may think of dusty storefronts full of ramshackle second hand items, but that couldn't be further from the vibe. The Providence Flea is an artisan marketplace full of local/regional micro businesses. Think more along the lines of artisans selling handmade products, highly curated vintage items, locally made apparel, and other creatives selling their own work. The Flea also welcomes food vendors selling baked goods and other items as well as food trucks. There will also likely be booths for non-profits if you're looking for volunteer opportunities or want to support a local cause.

During the cooler months the market operates out of the Farm Fresh building on Sims Ave, but it truly shines during the warmer months when they set up shop in District Park. There's not many weekends left before they go back inside, so let's check it out.

The Guild Beer Garden is in the same park, so we can also enjoy a drink or two while people browse. Don't worry if you're not a beer person! Their website lists a hard seltzer on tap. The Guild is a fairly well known brewery originally based out of Pawtucket, RI. They have since expanded to multiple locations throughout the state, one of which is their popular Providence beer garden. The garden has a more limited selection, but there's always something great in the rotation. Hopefully they have some Octoberfest inspired beers when we get there.

Let's aim to meet at the beer garden to start of the event. If we need to pivot for whatever reason, we'll update the location and leave a comment. If the garden isn't too crazy and we have a fair amount of people, we could use that as our hangout spot for the time we're at the flea. That way people can browse at their own pace and not have to worry about holding up or losing the group.

The pinned location Meetup defaulted to for the garden was in an odd spot, so I moved it closer. You can't miss the garden once you're in the park, just look for the fenced off area. Maybe just plug into your own GPS rather than use's meetup's location to be safe.

The flea runs until 3pm. However, District park is near the heart of downtown if the group wants to go somewhere for one last drink before we all call it night. With the Pedestrian Bridge we can easily head somewhere on either side of the river. We can figure it out on the day. :)

The flea is a popular event, so there's likely going to be a little congestion parking wise around the park. However, unless there's another event going on in PVD, parking shouldn't be too bad. If you don't mind a quick walk, the side streets around Family Court usually have spots. There's also paid lots that are unlikely to be full if you don't want to go hunting for a spot.

Please feel free to reach out to the hosts directly or leave a comment if you have any questions. Hope to see you all then!
