New York City Beekeeping nycbeekeeping.org Pages

One thing about this group: it's not just talk. It's actual hands-on work in nearby bee yards, training for successful urban beekeeping, and community service.

As our membership passes 2000(!), our purpose remains the same: to bring people together around this exciting and increasingly popular endeavor and ensure that all beekeepers in NYC have access to superior training and mentoring on a range of practices for Responsible Urban Beekeeping™, regardless of ability to pay.

We welcome beekeepers and bee-lovers of all levels, and organize meetings and activities throughout the year designed for various ages and abilities.

Everyone is welcome! So come whether you are an experienced beekeeper, or a just a "wannabee," and meet other beekeepers and people who are interested in bees for pollination as well as wax and honey to learn in a hands-on approach the art and tricks to this fascinating but readily managed hobby.

We do broad community outreach to educate the public about honey bees and other pollinators. Come volunteer with us!

We are offering a beekeeping course for the tenth year in 2018 and we have added other avenues for learning with us, notably Field Studies Group.

We have traditionally coordinated at-cost group purchasing in late winter, in accordance with the need.

We deliver expert and peer mentoring through our volunteer network to urban farms (East New York Farms, and others), community gardens (GreenThumb members and others), and team or individual beekeepers.

We promote awareness and the conservation and protection of honeybees and other pollinators.

Especially now that NYC beekeepers are keeping legally, we can take intelligent steps to prevent or reduce pests and diseases in our area if all NYC beekeepers cooperate!
*BEEKEEPERS: IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE HEALTH OF YOUR BEES AND YOUR NEIGHBORS' BEES TO TEST FOR VARROA : IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW, WE HAVE TRAINED PEER MENTORS WHO CAN HELP! PLEASE CONTACT US FOR FRIENDLY AND INFORMED ASSISTANCE FREE OF CHARGE & TO PARTICIPATE IN A GROUP ORDER OF MAQS STRIPS, (or Formic Pro - new in 2018).
