"X" is a collective of sound artists who are looking to build and expand a space of collaboration in the Oakland area. We inhabit all parts of the musical spectrum, from sound designers to field recorders, analog enthusiasts to digital explorers, classically trained to experimentally untethered. We come together to discuss how we can enrich our sounds and skills by cross-pollination and collaboration in a space which we hope to grow into something that doesn’t yet exist in Oakland. This is not a political movement, this is a space where any creative thought can weave itself into the diverse and multi-faceted tapestry of Oakland’s music community. A space where we aren’t limited by genre or instrument. Anyone interested in vibrating the air in a unique way is welcome. “What does that even mean,” you ask? Come help us figure that out!
