Talks
- Building RAG With OpenSearch ML Plugins - From PDFs To Voice-Enabled Search
Speaker - Kushagra Sharma - Staff Software Engineer, Genesys
This session shows how to build a complete RAG system using OpenSearch's ML Commons plugin—deploying embedding models directly on your cluster instead of relying on external services. You'll learn to process PDFs, generate embeddings, configure knn_vector indices, implement semantic search, and add voice search using a local Whisper model for a fully self-contained system.
- Beyond Search: From 10 Million docs to Lightning-Fast Aggregations
Speaker - Shankar, Software Engineer, IBM Software Labs
Handling millions of documents in OpenSearch can quickly become a performance bottleneck—especially when running complex aggregation queries. This session dives into real-world strategies for scaling OpenSearch to handle 10 million+ documents while keeping aggregation queries fast and reliable.
- I gave search a Prompt. It Gave me an application: A live journey into Opensearch Launchpad
Speaker - Devisri, Developer Intern, UPS
Search infrastructure has become one of the most complex parts of building modern AI applications. Developers now need to navigate embeddings, vector search, semantic retrieval, observability, and agent workflows—all at once.
In this practical session, we'll explore the new agentic era of search with OpenSearch and OpenSearch Launchpad. Through a live demo, you'll see how a simple natural language prompt can generate the foundation of an AI-powered search and observability application, including vector search, semantic retrieval, ingest pipelines, and a local search interface.
4. Beyond Clusters: Operating 700+ OpenSearch Nodes for a Multi-Tenant SaaS Platform
Speaker: Seetharam Rajagopal, Freshworks
Modern SaaS applications rely on search infrastructure to power critical customer experiences. As tenant counts and workloads grow, operating OpenSearch becomes a platform engineering challenge rather than simply managing clusters.
In this session, we'll share our experience building and operating a large-scale OpenSearch platform for a multi-tenant SaaS ecosystem. Today, our platform spans more than 700 nodes, handling approximately 300,000 requests per minute and processing over 11 billion writes and 2.5 billion reads every month. We'll explore how a centralized control plane automates cluster provisioning, migrations, benchmarking, capacity planning, and performance validation, enabling teams to manage self-hosted OpenSearch clusters at scale. We'll discuss the indexing and tenancy strategies used to support diverse workloads, from multiple accounts sharing shards to dedicated resources for large tenants. This approach helped reduce search latency at the 95th percentile from nearly 1000 ms to 200 ms while maintaining operational efficiency. The session will also cover handling concurrent and out-of-order writes through a robust tombstone-based mechanism that ensures consistency in distributed systems.
Attendees will gain practical insights into the architectural patterns, operational challenges, and engineering trade-offs involved in building and operating a scalable, cost-efficient OpenSearch platform for a modern SaaS environment.
