So the day is finally here, a number of you have already walked from Edale to Green head (a distance of around 206 miles) and now its your chance to complete the Pennine way and walk into Scotland.

Just 62 miles to go now.

Unfortunately because of the nature of the walk it will be unsupported (apart from a chance to shop in Bellingham for chocolate and drinks on the Saturday afternoon).

You need to be ultra fit and ready for the challenge because this will not be a section to go slow on.

Expect to walk at speeds of at least 3 mph continuously for around 22 hours. For those who don't know this is typical ultra marathon pace.

Just over 2500 metres of ascent so this is a tough ask for most fit athletes.

I will keep you company and set a decent consistent pace on this section and my plan is to start at 09:00 and walk / run until we are done.

You will need a head torch and warm clothes as we will walk through the night.

You must bring food and fluids for the entire distance.

If you keel over half way there is no way to get support to you as the location is totally remote so you need to self reliant and self sufficient.

We meet at the end in Kirk Yetholm at 07:00 and travel in as few cars as possible back to Green head where we start the walk (I will travel with one of you). At the end I will drive those who took us to the start back to Green Head to pick up their cars.

Highlights this time include Cawfields reservoir, Hadrians wall, the former Sycamore Gap and the Northumberland national park.

START TIME 9.30am
Meeting at the Mapleton just outside of Ashbourne at the Oakover Arms Pub DE6 2AB for an early start as I would like to be back for an early meal at the pub which we have done for the last 2 years.
You can park on the road or in the pub car park.
We will head over to Ilam Hall and a few walks around Dove Dale, head back over to east and Thorpe. The last leg will be along the Tissington Trail.
A relatively easy walk but you still need to be ‘walk fit’ and ready for any weathers.
Bring rucksack, walking boots, poles, lunch and drinks.
Well behaved dogs welcome.
All being well we will be back by 3.30pm.
I will book a table for 10 to eat after the walk. The meals have been fabulous previously. If you would like to walk and enjoy a meal together after please let me know. I will get the menu in the morning so you choose what you would like to eat on return.

There are many wonderful walking routes starting from Hathersage, so let's gather and go with the flow. If the weather's nice, we'll go up on high, maybe doing a bit of scrambling on the way. If not, we'll aim for more sheltered ground. Anything goes, we'll decide on the day depending on how adventurous everyone feels! That of course means that the distance is to be decided, but expect around 12 miles, give or take, so a decent level of fitness will be required.

Be prepared for anything, including possible river crossings, wet/muddy/slippery conditions, rocks etc.

Also, please ensure you bring a head torch as we will likely not get back to Hathersage in daylight.

Dogs are welcome at owner's liability.

Meet at the main Edale carpark with the toilets. Usually a £6 charge for the day so car sharing advisable.
We will head up Grindsbrook so the main climb is done for the day! Then across Edale Moor Upper Torr and Ringing Roger and Mad Women’s Stones rocky outcrops. Is there a Mad Man’s Stone I don’t know about 😂
We will go down Crookstone Hill and back along the lower paths to Edale.
Could be great views on a cold winters day from the top 🤞
Please be ‘walk fit’ and capable of walking 10 miles to ensure we get back before dark.
Usual bring rucksack, waterproofs, walking boots, poles, lunch and drinks.
Dogs welcome.
Maybe a beer in one of the local hostels before we say goodbye.

There is a full moon on 15 December called the Cold Moon. It aligns with the winter solstice. It is also called Long Nights Moon and the Moon before Yule. Walking in moonlight is a really magical experience if we have a clear night. If not it is still good fun.
In December Castleton looks its best with the Christmas lights.
Plan is to meet on old mam tor road where there is free on street parking in Castleton, at the junction with Arthur’s Way at 6 pm.
We will walk up onto mam tor, maybe calling in at the Odin mine, and then make our way back into Castleton to see the lights followed by a drink in The George to warm up. We will be out 3-4 hours.
Warm clothing, a good head torch plus spare batteries, as well as grippy boots essential.
Well behaved dogs welcome but will need to be kept on a lead.
I am not first aid trained or a professional mountain guide so attendance is at your own risk.

About 9.5 - 10 miles moderate walk with approx 2000 feet of ascent. Will be taken at a steady pace that suits everyone.
The picture is Win Hill in its winter cloak. We are more likely to be greeted by a muddy win hill when we go. We can but hope though.
Pack your warm clothing hat gloves and waterproofs with a duvet or something else toasty for when we stop for breaks and lunch on the hill. Bring packed lunch, drink- hot is nice- plus snacks. Head torch just in case.
Sturdy boots with good grip are a must. No trainers.
Dogs welcome but please keep on lead around livestock.
We meet at car park on Carr Lane in Thornhill. Type in Carr Lane Hope Valley into google which will take you to the general area. The car park takes around 20 cars so is clearly visible. No toilets. It is free to park there.

Meet 9.15 ready to start walking at 9.30. We will not wait for anyone who is late.
We head north down Thornhill Carrs trail with some bird spotting on the way, bring your binoculars if you are interested. Bear with any twitchers if you’re not. We then head up Parkin Clough which is steep, muddy and usually slippy. Win Hill next stop then down to cross snake road and up and over crook hill. Nice little circuit.

After all the Xmas festivities you might fancy a blast on Boxing Day.
Meeting on The Green in Baslow we will walk up onto Baslow Edge and Curbar Edge and then down to Froggat. We return along the River Derwent and Calver Mill back to Baslow.
Distance 7.2 miles but will be at a fairly fast pace.

Meet 9.30am for 10am prompt start.
Be ‘walk fit’ and bring rucksack , walking boots (not fashion trainers), waterproof jacket (and trousers) food and drink.
