What we’re about
We love the outdoors and bushwalking, but it's the company that makes this group what it is.
Our ages range from late 20s to late 50s and beyond. This group is not suitable for young kids, however young people over about 12 who can manage the walks are very welcome.
Walkers should have "a reasonable level of walking fitness, and able to walk a minimum of 15km over variable terrain in a total of 4-5 hours (in the cooler months)".
Bushwalking is a winter activity in this part of Australia. The season runs from about April to October each year. We bushwalk regularly during those cooler months, sometimes overnight, or extended trips.
We limit numbers on walks. Please do not put your name on an Attending or Waiting List if you have no intention of coming. No Shows will be removed from the group.
You can find more information about us here:
Redtail Bushwalkers - information
We enjoy a cold beer and good discussion at the end of a day out, almost as much as being out there in nature.
If you're into the natural world, science, flora, fauna, or just simply enjoying the bush, then this may be the group for you.
Looking forward to meeting you!
* We're named after the Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo, specifically the local subspecies Calyptorhynchus banksii naso.

(Make sure you tick the box agreeing to the rules when asking to join) - Piesse BrookCarpark, Kalamunda
Time for an on-track hike!
This is a loop of about 12km, all on-track, and with about 580m of cumulative uphill walking. It's rated as Medium, that is a reasonable level of walking fitness and experience is required.
According to WalkGPS:
"Piesse Brook flows northward within Kalamunda and Beelu National Parks and meets the Helena River upstream of the Pumpback Dam in the north. The Parks provide for some excellent bushwalking close to Perth, with many views from the enclosing rugged valley slopes which are partly covered with open woodlands of jarrah, marri, wandoo and butter gum, interrupted by numerous granite outcrops and some large areas of open heathlands. The heathlands offer superb wildflower displays in spring. The route passes small waterfalls on Piesse Brook at Rocky Pool and on a side stream. Some of the tracks are quite steep and are shared with mountain bikers, but should not be any problem for the reasonably fit and careful."***
