Being a scrum master is tough. You’re accountable for increasing the teams’ effectiveness by fostering behavioral change. And people can be notoriously resistant to change. Add in the challenges of trying to measure and justify the worth of your role and the constant looming presence of impostor syndrome - it’s enough to burn anyone out. We’ll explore the importance of mental health as a scrum master. We’ll experiment with tools to let go of what isn’t serving us and practices to guide us towards improving our self-care. We’ll discuss stress and how to manage it, with the audience choosing which topics to cover. And we’ll learn from the first-hand experiences of an awkward, introverted, anxious scrum master. You’ll leave this session equipped to take care of your own mental health so you can better serve your teams.
Season Hughes coaches teams on finding their purpose and motivation to deliver customer value using agile methodologies. Her focus on team health sets the foundation for high performance. She has over a decade of experience in the tech industry at companies like Amazon, Atlassian, Dolby, and TripAdvisor. Season holds a number of certifications including: Certified Scrum Master, Advanced Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Professional – Scrum Master, and International Coaching Federation Associate Certified Coach. She is currently pursuing the Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer credential and doing post-baccalaureate work in computer science.
