What we're about
You've been looking for a scuba group that actually dives? YOU'VE FOUND IT!
FREE mask, snorkel, and weight replacement program for members! (https://www.meetup.com/Scuba-Diving-San-Diego/messages/boards/thread/7806076)
A SAFETY-FOCUSED, NO-DUES, NON-PROFIT, INDEPENDENT SCUBA GROUP that dives more than any other club or group in San Diego (and beyond)!
Whether you dive occasionally or every week, Power Scuba is the fun, easy way to stay connected with the underwater scene in San Diego county and beyond. Explore familiar and brand new dive spots throughout Southern California (and overseas).
Safe diving within your personal limits and skillset is our emphasis. Advanced & technical dives will occur (for qualified members), in addition to our normal dives, but safety is not just lip service with us.
Eco-mindedness, in addition to safety, is always at the forefront of our thinking. The group participates in (and hosts) various environmental programs and our president represents our no-fishing (for fish) group to various orgs and entities. What better ocean stewards than those who peer beneath the surface regularly?
WE ACTUALLY DIVE, NOT JUST TALK ABOUT IT! All certification levels are welcome at this no-profit group. We're fun, often irreverent, and very, very passionate about our diving and the environment. Sound good? Do you want to see more of San Diego diving, both from the shore and boats? In need of a dive buddy? Join up now!

* We're not a scuba shop or boat and do not represent any of the same. *
* Power scuba will not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual preference. All are welcome. *

ADMIN STUFF YOU MUST READ:
If you have not filled out a Liability Release for Power Scuba Meetup, please follow this link for the electronic waiver: ( http://bit.ly/power-scuba ).
You must also read this: Disclaimer and Clarification... AKA Terms and Conditions (http://www.meetup.com/Scuba-Diving-San-Diego/messages/boards/thread/5914647)
Anyone with a medical condition possibly counter-indicative to diving must have a doctors signature on a diving waiver form and submit signed form to Bill Powers (or an organizer) before they may attend any Power Scuba event. YOU MAY NOT ATTEND AN EVENT WITH AN UNDISCLOSED MEDICAL CONDITION. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group. Our medical statement is found in the Files section of our Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PowerScuba/files/ (Therein you'll find a Doctor Waiver form as well.)
Attendees affirm they are medically fit to dive, have read the Terms and Conditions, and have submitted a signed Liability Release to an organizer... and that your "plus 1", if applicable, agrees to the same.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is not the organizer's role to lead your dive. He/she merely facilitates you getting to the pre-dive meeting location. The Organizer will not assign you a buddy nor will he/she be leading the dive as a "group dive". Visibility and liability do not allow for that. You must plan and execute your dive with your dive buddy only. Once members arrive at the meeting spot, the Organizer becomes simply another diver.

It's been too long since I've hosted a beat dive event and conditions are forecasted to be nice for Sunday and look forward to hanging out with fellow club members.
We have an incredible treasure here at the Shores and lots of Power Scuba members. We should be enjoying what nature has put forth so I hope to see many members at the event.
Please make sure to sign our liability releases online once per calendar year. It's quick and easy, just follow this link: (http://bit.ly/power-scuba)

Join us for one or two dives at La Jolla Shores. All skill and experience levels can appreciate this dive location. Easy entry and exit and depths that can satisfy the new beginner or challenge the experienced!
Meet us in the parking lot, near the lifeguard tower.
Check the start time in the header. Please be on time and set your RSVP to 'no' if you can't make it.
Bring all of your own dive gear (including weights and tanks). Check our Shops and Instructors list in the Discussions/Message Board area if you need to rent something. A tarp is good for gearing up/down.
Your hosts are volunteers and there at the event to dive themselves. If you are here on vacation and need a guide or training, there are professional dive operations that provide these services. Do not expect to buddy with the host, but you can find a buddy at the event.
- Ensure you are properly weighted!
- You must perform a good Pre-Dive Buddy Check prior to water entry.
- You are responsible for yourself on every dive. Not the host, lifeguards, your more-competent buddy, nor anyone else. Only YOU.
SEE YOU THERE!!!

Shaw's Cove is a popular Southern California dive site that offers excellent diving and is accessible to divers of any skill or experience level(low surf provided). Once you make it past the stairs, there's phenomenal varied sea life.
This site is a nice change-up if you are used to diving La Jolla Shores. There is lots of rocky reef that is pretty well covered in life. Max depth is maybe 50 feet.
Meet us by the top of the stairs. It is good to get there early to get good parking.
Check the start time in the header. Please be on time and set your RSVP to 'no' if you can't make it. We will get into the water about 30 minutes after the start time.
Bring all of your own dive gear (including weights and tanks). Check our Shops and Instructors list in the Discussions/Message Board area if you need to rent something. A tarp is good for gearing up/down.

A dive unlike any other in SoCal! If you are an advanced diver prepared for exciting dives, come join us for an adventure!
WAIVERS: Sign both Waivers. They are required.
- Power Scuba waiver (http://bit.ly/power-scuba)
- Pac Star Waiver: https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/5af2e1710815f/web/
The Pac Star rocks! They're a big boat with excellent safety and service.
FOOD: Full breakfast, lunch and snacks!
Offshore Oil Rigs aren't dove often (because of the permission process required) and yet they can house a remarkable underwater community under their platforms. Life on the thick support pylons and crossbeams is abundant.
You must be an experienced diver and comfortable diving in water that essentially has no bottom. Advanced cert or better required. PERFECT NEUTRAL BUOYANCY SKILLS ARE NEEDED. If you have to ask whether you're an "experienced diver"... you're not.
This is 3-tank, open ocean diving with "live drops".
MANDATORY ITEMS: SMB and whistle. (At a minimum.) Don't show up on the boat without these.
COST: $107.07
If adding a +1, please add their name in the comments below.
BOAT LOCATION: 22nd St. Landing, San Pedro, CA. The Pacific Star is docked behind 22nd St. Landing Seafood Grill & Bar. Drop your gear off on the right corner of the building and find parking across the street.
BOARDING: You may sleep on the boat the night before (Starting at 8 pm) or board by 6 am that morning. Boat leaves the dock 7:00 AM. No drunken revelry and stay quiet after 10:30 pm so people can get rest for the next day.
BUNKS: Bunks are first come, first served. (A drawn curtain means the bunk is taken.) Bring your own bedding (blanket, sheet, pillow/pillowcase, or sleeping bag). Couples and very tall members get the first dibs on the "cabins" until about 10 pm. After that it's everyone for themselves. (Don't put your things on any bunk other than your own.)
SITES:
OLYMPIC: Wreck in 100 FSW of sand. Mostly pancaked, but some structure on either end. Ling Cod and wolf eels are sometimes sighted.
RIGS (x2): Eureka & Ellen/Elly. Each with different "personalities". Gorgeous marine life resident with occasional spectacular "guests" floating through. Depth: Go as deep (or stay as shallow) as you like and are trained for. Boat captain recommends staying above the 110' crossbeams.
Conditions permitting, we'll do our first dive on the wreck of the Olympic. Otherwise, all three dives on the rigs.
AIR TANKS: Boat has steel LP 72s (plus rating overfilled) for your use, or you may bring your own tank, which many of us do. Their compressor fills to 3,000 psi. (No HP fills.) If requesting a boat tank, you must request this of the crew BEFORE we get underway.
NITROX: Boat pumps Nitrox into O2-clean tanks only. $12 per fill. You may bring your own O2-clean (dedicated) Nitrox tank, but bring it FULL. Boat has steel LP 72 (plus rating overfilled) Nitrox tanks for your use if you wish, but you must request this of the crew BEFORE we get underway.
BOTTOM LINE: Bring your own tank (or two) if you can
GEAR: Bring all your own gear (except for tanks if you so choose). Boat has some weights, but it's best to bring your own.
TAKE: Scallops may be harvested on these dives w/ a valid fishing license. Poachers will be prosecuted!
BOAT: Pacific Star (http://www.pacificstardiving.com)
Would-be Car-poolers: Speak up in the comments section below!
