Zuni Cafe: Table for 6

Details

Zuni Cafe is a renowned and iconic restaurant in San Francisco, established in 1979. It's known for its laid-back yet sophisticated atmosphere, culinary legacy, and commitment to seasonal, organic ingredients.

Zuni's daily changing menus are inspired by seasonal organic ingredients and incorporate traditional French and Italian cuisine. A central feature of the kitchen is its wood-fired brick oven, used for roasting their famous chicken, pizzas, vegetables, and more, imparting a delicious smoky flavor.

Zuni is particularly famous for:

  • Whole Roast Chicken for Two: This iconic dish, roasted in the wood-fired oven with a warm bread salad, takes about an hour to prepare and is widely considered a must-try.
  • Caesar Salad: Another classic, known for its perfect balance of flavors.
  • House-Cured Anchovies: Served with celery, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and olives, a simple yet highly acclaimed appetizer.
  • ** Ricotta Gnocchi**: Light and melt-in-your-mouth, served with seasonal accompaniments.
  • Oyster Bar: Zuni has an excellent selection of fresh oysters and shellfish.
  • Emphasis on Quality Ingredients: The restaurant has long championed local, sustainable, and organic agriculture, sourcing high-quality produce, meat, and fish.

Note that the menu changes daily based on seasonal availability.

Zuni Cafe has received numerous accolades, including James Beard Awards for "Outstanding Restaurant" and "Outstanding Chef." The restaurant's influence extends to its cookbook, which has won awards and inspired many home cooks.

(Yeah, AI wrote all that!)

Note this is an early dinner, because the restaurant only offers two seatings for large parties. But that roast chicken takes a long time to cook! If there is interest after dinner, we can head over to Martuni’s to watch some cabaret.

This is the rare nice restaurant in San Francisco that does not hold reservations with a credit card or deposit, so no deposit for this event (yay!). But please be a mensch and honor your RSVP. I will be confirming attendance in the app the day before the event, and if I don’t hear from you, I will give your place to someone on the wait list.

Costs
Appetizers are about $20 and entrees are about $40. Alcohol and dessert will increase your tab.

Each diner is responsible for their own orders and costs, and we will have to consolidate and divvy up the final bill accordingly. Each diner’s orders will be calculated separately, unless we agree to share some food family style. Note that the restaurant’s signature dish is roast chicken for two, so we will probably be sharing some food. Please be prepared to split the check and pay via cash, Venmo, Zelle, or Apple Pay.

Taxes and Fees
Dining in San Francisco has a sales tax (8.625%). The restaurant charges an employee health mandate (5%) and a mandatory gratuity (20%).
