606 Hong Kong Style Chinese: Table for 10

Details

606
Open less than a year and already listed as one of the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the United States. Having eaten here earlier this year, I must agree, great food, great service, fair pricing.

The reopening of the New Sun Hong Kong (1989) has a new interior, menu, staff, but the same recipes and accolades.

This will be family style, dietary restrictions will still pay the group price, estimating $40 per person.

History
It all started with a simple dream: to share the recipes we grew up with. Over the years, we’ve become more than just a restaurant. We’re a place where memories are made, meals are shared, and traditions are kept alive. Our journey has been full of challenges and triumphs, but through it all, we’ve stayed true to our roots. Come be part of our story and see what makes us special. (from restaurant website)

Professional Review
In 2020, with the coronavirus raging, the owners of New Sun Hong Kong restaurant in San Francisco were at a crossroads familiar to many Chinatown business owners of their generation.
Raymond and Mimi Owyang were nearing retirement age. They’d spent most of their waking hours since 1989 at their Hong Kong-style restaurant at the prominent intersection of Broadway and Columbus Avenue. Their adult children gently urged them to close for good. But then their son-in-law Eugene Lau, who also comes from a longtime Chinatown restaurant family, said he wanted to save the business.
After nearly four years sitting dark, a remodeled New Sun Hong Kong reopened last week, led by the Owyangs’ daughter Theresa Lau, her husband, Eugene, and his brother, Alvin. It’s now called 606, after its address 606 Broadway, still emblazoned on a yellow awning underneath Bill Weber’s famous “Jazz Mural,” at one of the main gateways to Chinatown.

Taxes and Restaurant Fees
Dining in San Francisco has a sales tax (8.625%) and probably an employee health mandate (3-10%), a tip (20%) may be automatically added, even on individual bills, if not we expect a 20% minimum tip to be paid for individual bills.

Each diner is responsible for their own orders and costs but we will have to consolidate and divvy up the final bill accordingly.

Please bring cash or have Zelle or Apple Cash available.
