A Very San Francisco Summer Picnic
Picnic Potluck Fundraiser for Muttville (a Senior Dog Rescue)
As any local San Franciscan knows October is the best month for outdoor activities, perhaps the last weeks of September are their only competition.

This is a return to the Potluck Picnic.

A potluck is where each attendee brings something they either made or bought that matches the theme, our theme is San Francisco Foodies.

I will post more as we approach October 25, 2025. But here are some events..

First at least a $20 donation is requested for our Non-Profit of the year, if you remember we had a vote back in January... so Muttville was the winner, a no kill shelter that finds homes for senior dogs, many of whom their master left before they will.

Second I am asking for volunteers, to help check people in, take donations and organize the food and drinks. I will have a separate event for volunteers, but you need to sign up for both, and when you sign up here, please put in the comments if you would like to volunteer, first come first chosen. All volunteers are invited to an after party starting at a famous San Francisco Restaurant, The House of Prime Rib.

None of the restaurants and shops mentioned are sponsors of this event.

Alcohol (Beer and Wine) is allowed, as long as it's not in glass containers.

When you sign up please list what you are thinking of bringing, I have a list and will try to have enough mains, sides, appetizers, desserts and drinks. Bring enough to share, feeding around 6-12 people but in smaller portions, and I am sure we will have enough food.

To entice any non-dog lovers to attend:

  • If we have Five Attendees: I will bring my Not as Good as My Mother's Pasta Salad.
  • If we have Fifteen Attendees: I will bring ... (to be continued)
  • If
  • If
  • If we have 100 Attendees...

And the site has two BBQ grills, so I can get my grilling bug on.

Agenda
Now.. what will we do there for three hours besides socialize with others in our community? I'll fill in more as we march closer.

  1. All attendees can participate in San Francisco Foodies First ever Restaurant List. This will be a non-ranked list of Twenty-Five amazing meals from the great attendees. I probably won't take recommendations from people not there.
  2. more...

As a note.. San Francisco Foodies won't charge any place to be listed, if they don't want to be on our list they can opt-out, and we do not have any pay advertising.

History
For the past ten years I have hosted a picnic to raise money for a San Francisco Non-Profit. As I said above, this year's non-profit was voted on in January and Muttville was selected.

We've held this in various picnic areas in San Francisco's World Class Golden Gate Park. We had a high of 135 people at this site in 2019, then of course 2020 had lock-downs, but we were given permission having our reservation so far in advance but only twelve lucky people were allowed to attend by San Francisco Parks and Recreation and we made the most of it, and with an additional fundraiser sent some money to Holiday Meals - Tenderloin Tessie who holds four meals a year at the Unitarian Church for San Franciscans who do not have anyone over the major holidays.

Last year raised money for Trevor's Project. A Suicide Prevention Hotline for young adults, recently losing Federal Funds, they are relying on public support now more than ever, and they are not the only one. San Francisco Foodies from a small group that showed raised over $500.
