Japanese Obon Festival - Japanese Community Cooking and Dinner ($35)

Details

Last year this was something new, now it's a crucial event to attend every year. Japanese Community Cooking and dinner at San Francisco’s Japanese Cultural and Community Center. Our attendees will participate in preparing one of these dishes with a group of others attending the event, following a recipe with guidance from one of the JCCCC event organizers.

Our Event Host Extraordinaire Annie recommended the JCCCNC for their culinary engagements and so this is our second such event. She will be in attendance, but is not an event co-host this year.

The JCCC Community Kitchen will have an OBON FESTIVAL (menu below). Attendees will make dinner, led by experts from JCCCNC. The Obon Festival goes from August 13 - 17 this year, reminding us to remember our ancestors and honor their traditions as we continue on our own journey.

Last year myself and a team of other people made a clam soup, which turned out pretty good, though I cannot take any credit for how good that soup tasted. I did, however, learn what not to do.

Cost is $35 for JCCC non-members, $30 for members and also bring something to drink. Cost for dinner and four hours of fun seems like a steal.

Register quickly before they fill.

Official Event Description and Menu Below:
Community Kitchen is organized by volunteers to bring members of our community together to learn how to cook Japanese and Japanese American family recipes and to share a multi-generational communal dinner. Adapting our Baachan's Kitchen program started in 2016, our Community Kitchen is open to all who want to enjoy and share Japanese home-style cooking while connecting with the community.

Each dinner consists of a menu determined in advance by the Community Kitchen volunteer committee, who then instruct and assist attendees in preparing the dishes on the menu. Participants of all ages and backgrounds are welcome! Just be prepared to help in the preparation, cooking, and cleanup, but most of all, to have a great time!
