New Meetup: Shut Up & Write! Monthly Critique Session

From: Bob
Sent on: Sunday, August 22, 2010 1:10 PM
Hi Writers!

Our monthly critique session is set for next Thursday, September 2, at 7 pm at Borderlands Cafe. Make plans to attend now. Remember, you can attend without presenting anything or even offering any comments on the work that is presented. I think you'll be surprised to find how valuable it is just to listen to the work of your fellow writers and to the constructive feedback offered by the audience.

If you are interested in presenting work, simply email me at [address removed] and then bring your work to the session. You do not need to provide work in advance. Limit 20 pages max, but no minimum.

Look forward to seeing you at the critique session!

Warm regards,

Bob

Shut Up & Write is Starting a Supportive and Positive Critique Session!

Introduction
Perhaps the most challenging task the writer faces is editing his or her own work. This is where feedback from other writers can be invaluable. The goal of the Shut Up & Write Critique Session is to provide constructive feedback in a supportive environment. Here are the details on what it is and how it works:

Concept
A SU&W! session where work is presented and comments are given.

How it Works
Each session two writers will present their work. Writers may read their own material or arrange for someone else in the group to read it for them. (In the case of a play or screen play, several people can be enlisted to read the various parts.) After the reading, the writer will invite ?notes? from the audience on the work. All comments must be constructive. Those who comment are asked to say what they liked about the piece first and then provide their constructive critique. Writers are asked to keep the material to a maximum of 20 minutes (generally 20 pages). Comments are taken for about 20 minutes. There is a 10 minute mixer period prior to the readings. Thus the total session runs about 1.5 hours.

That?s it.

About the Venue
We'll be meeting at Borderlands Cafe, 870 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA 94110, (415) 970-6998. Borderlands is very supportive of the San Francisco writing community. We will meet in the back of the Cafe, which is quite and secluded.

Submission & Signup
There is no requirement to submit your work prior to presenting it. If you are interesting in presenting simply email me with the type of material (novel, poem, screenplay, short story, etc.) and how many pages you have to present.

Do not hesitate to contact me or Rennie if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.

Best,

Bob
