What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
We are here Tues-Friday morning, happy to sit and write at a table with anyone who is willing to take advantage of the silent group work experience. Come when you can and leave anytime you're ready to go. The LuckyDuck Bicycle Cafe is really cool, 3 blocks from the 12th Street BART. A very unassuming and hip kind of place with high ceilings. It doubles as a bicycle repair/sale shop. We really like the ambiance and feeling here, although it might be slightly noisier than some (nothing a pair of headphones can't fix). There is internet (although sometimes it's a bit slow or erratic), and plugs! Wow, wifi and plugs, a lot of coffee shops simply don't provide those anymore. We support wherever we go by always buying something -- they are a business, after all :) Parking is street meter and most do not have trouble finding a spot within a couple of blocks. Co-working works well for those of us who need a bit more pressure or structure. This meetup is ALWAYS ON. It only takes 2 people to form a team. Arrive or leave anytime you like. Come join us for a morning of focused writing! Bring whatever you need to write - short story, novel, poem, memoir, thesis, blog or a manifesto! Bring a laptop, bring a pen, bring a notebook. We will do a brief intro for those who arrive on time. If you arrive after the intro time, just wave and find a seat at our table or nearby our table. When we are finished, chat a bit if the spirit strikes you and your neighbors, or just wave to those still working and head out. This is a very casual group, the goal is to provide silent partnership and support to get work/writing done. 9:00 am- Brief Introductions (your name, the project you're working on, or your goal for the day) 9:10 am - Shut up and Write! During this marathon, feel free to take your own personal small breaks, stand up, stretch, and walk around. 11:45 am--wrap up and congratulate yourself for the hard work. If you're spending too much time THINKING about writing, come and join us. It may just be "pipe-cleaning" for now, but you'll feel better showing up on the page. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Please make sure we keep our welcome by purchasing something from the cafe. Thanks.

You're welcome to come for part or all of the writing sessions in the marathon. It may just be "pipe-cleaning" for now, but you'll feel better showing up at the page. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. To keep all of us and the Celtic Coffee Company (Urbean) staff happy, here are a few guidelines for the Marathon meetup: 1) Please try to arrive a bit early to get a seat with the group, or at least on time. Check in! When you arrive, locate the host (with the MEET-UP SIGN) and make sure to write down your name on the signup sheet (as you RSVP'd on meetup). 2) IF YOU ARRIVE LATE PLEASE try not to disrupt the writing flow! Find a seat somewhere, start writing, and WAIT FOR THE BREAK to sign in and introduce yourself. At Celtic Coffee Company (Urbean) cafe, we mostly take over the back area, but you can sit where you want. 3) If you arrive for the MORNING SESSION, please also write down on the LUNCH ORDER sheet your name and lunch order chosen from the menu board at the cafe. We give the lunch order list to the staff by 11:15 so they can have all of our lunches ready to go at 12:00 noon. You pay for your orders at the counter individually at lunch time. To avoid having the staff interrupt during the writing session to ask for clarification of lunch orders, please remember to SPECIFY items like (a) BEVERAGE, (b) type of BREAD for sandwich, (c) type of CHEESE for sandwich (or, "no cheese"). 4) The rear half of the cafe is reserved for our group, but you can sit anywhere you like. 5) If you have a power strip or a few, please bring it/them! It will help us to make sure that everyone has a place to plug in. 6) This should be obvious, but as a reminder -- the cafe is a business, not the public library. We don't want to wear out our welcome! During breaks, make sure to purchase something from the cafe. That will cause them to want us to come back again and again. 7) If you can't make it, please un-RSVP at least a few days in advance if at all possible. Late RSVP changers and No-Shows have prevented eager writers from attending past overly subscribed Marathons!
My name is Hector, I am co-host of this meet up, with Cecilia. Briefly, I am upstairs at Farleys and should have a sign. Great locale! I hope to see you there! This meetup is ALWAYS ON, in fact even when it is just myself, I am usually at the location since it is my mobile office, BUT, if there is no sign up, I might be prone to laziness and take a day off once in a while, so always try to sign on to help keep me on my best behavior. It only takes 2 people to form a team. Arrive or leave anytime you like. I am here Saturdays, and also weekdays Mon-Weds Come join us for a marathon of focused writing! Start off the weekend right by paying respect to your creativity. You can come for the morning or the afternoon session, or both! Bring whatever you need to write - short story, novel, poem, memoir, thesis, blog or a manifesto! Bring a laptop, bring a pen, bring a notebook. We will do brief intro for those who arrive on time, and start at 9:45 am sharp to write. If you arrive after the intro time, just wave and find a seat at our table or nearby our table. When we are finished at 12;30, chat a bit if the spirit strikes you and your neighbors or just wave to those still working and head out. writing can be a lonely activity, getting to know our partners help foster more motivation(and peer pressure :)) but also feel free to leave early. this is a very casual group, the main goal is to provide silent partnership in getting work/writing done. 9:30 - Brief Introductions (name and project you working on, goal for today) 9:45 am - Shut up and Write! During this Marathon, feel free to take your personal small breaks, stand up and walk around. 12:30 pm - lunch/chat/continue with your Sat the wifi here can be a bit spotty. so best if you have more offline work. if any coffee shops around here have good wifi(and still close to Bart), always open to new suggestions If you're spending too much time THINKING about writing, come and join us for a session of focused writing. It may just be "pipe-cleaning" for now, but you'll feel better showing up at the page. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Please make sure to purchase beverages and/or food during the time you are there to make sure we are welcomed back. Directions: 19th Bart is the closest(about 5 blocks walk). parking would be difficult, always a few does drive and find meters. Saturday parking is free I believe. We choose the coffee shops to be both Bart friendly as well as being great open spaces and serve lunch. (and alway welcome new suggestions of anything new around the area and close to Bart opens up, message me)
Start the weekend productively by joining fellow writers for a marathon writing session. If you're spending too much time thinking about writing, come by any time for up to 6 hours of focused writing! Why is Shut Up & Write so effective? (http://arsenalofwords.com/2015/10/14/why-i-shut-up-write/) 10am — Check-in by introducing yourself and what you'll be working on. Optionally, place a lunch order for noon. 10am - 12pm — Write for about two hours. 12pm — Check-in again and break for lunch or keep writing. 12pm - 2pm — Write for about two hours. 2pm — Check-in again. 2pm - 4pm — Write for about two hours. 4pm — Check-in again. 1) Please arrive early to get a seat with the group. We don't have to sit together but most folks find it helpful, even if everyone is working in silence. 2) Order something from Mo'Joe. Drinks, snacks, and lunch are reasons for them to let us keep using their space. There are healthy options. 3) If you arrive during a writing session, do not disrupt the writing flow. Start writing and join the group for the next check-in (12pm, 2pm, or 4pm). 4) If you can't make it, please RSVP "No" as soon as possible. Late RSVP changes can prevent eager writers from attending past overly subscribed Marathons!
