What we're about

Been meaning to draw more? Or enjoy New York City more?
Do both - and meet great people too!
Come relax and learn with New York's largest drawing Meetup.

We welcome people who: have a love of art and nature - want to meet new people - want to learn from other artists - want to see parks and museums - want to start drawing, but classes are too expensive - draw all the time, or haven't drawn for years (or ever!)

What makes our Meetups different? We like to share our work, and talk, and admire art, and hang out. Share tips and learn from people in a casual environment that is friendly, non-judgmental, and usually free! And all levels of artists are very welcome!

Sketch the Unisphere & Queens Museum!

Unisphere

Something every New Yorker should experience! The awe-inspiring giant Unisphere sculpture and the surrounding museums and parks of the former World's Fair. We'll meet at the Unisphere itself - this makes it hard to miss the group - and sketch there, and then move into the Art Museum for more sketching. A highlight of the museum is walking above the huge scale model of all of New York. Visit their web site here for directions: https://queensmuseum.org/directions . Easiest way is to take the #7 train to Mets-Willets Point and then walk 15 minutes to the Unisphere. The museum price is a suggested donation of $5 (group rate; regular is $8). ---------- Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at[masked]. Looking forward to sketching with you! ---------- IMPORTANT: In case of rain, I will let people know early in the morning if it is canceled, and then reschedule for another day. ---------- What makes our Meetups different from other art groups and classes? There's no instruction, but we like to share our work, and chat and be inspired. Share tips and learn from people in a casual environment where all levels of artists are welcome! Don't be shy to ask anyone anything! • We sketch for a bit, usually 45 minutes or so, and then get back together and share our drawings, and then sketch again, etc. There's usually time for 3 or 4 sketches. • Please bring your own supplies - anything you like to work with - pens, pencil, watercolor, pastel, small sketchbook or large paper, iPad, whatever suits you. • We hand out nametags so everyone can meet one another! • We take photos to share on the site later. Take a bunch! • Sorry, but please leave the dogs at home; they tend to step on the artwork. Thanks. • This Meetup is FREE and everyone at all skill levels is welcome! ---------- Please note that if you add a comment below it will spam everyone with an email, so please use your judgement.

Sketch each other in Central Park!

Conservatory Garden

Our portrait drawing meetups - in which we pose for each other and practice drawing faces - are always popular events. For this one, let's combine the beauty of Central Park and draw under the gorgeous wisteria at the Conservatory Garden. We'll meet at the entrance to the garden on 5th Avenue at 105th Street. See you then! ---------- Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at[masked]. Sketch Sutton Place Parks!

East 53rd Street & Sutton Place South

Sutton Place Park isn't a park at all, but a series of small parks desperately striving and failing to be connected. We'll hop from park to park as we sketch. Let's meet at the southernmost park, at the corner of East 53rd Street and Sutton Place South. BE CAREFUL crossing the street here, there's a sharp curve for cars. ---------- Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at[masked]. Sketch Battery Park!

Netherland Monument

This is a great park to sketch but it's been years since we've been here - the last time was rained out! But the park is beautiful with lots of varied things to draw, like boats and buildings and monuments and the Statue of Liberty. We'll meet at the Netherland Monument (it's a tall tan obelisk) where Broadway ends. ---------- Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at[masked].
