Back by popular demand after our June edition, this September immersion is unapologetically about your French. From Monday morning to Thursday night, we live in French roughly ninety percent of the time, not in a classroom but in the streets, markets, art galleries, and dining rooms of one of the only walled cities in North America.

You speak, you don't study. There are no textbooks and no desks. A private half-day with Xavier Chambolle, the finest guide in the city, walks us through the whole history of Québec entirely in French. And with only ten participants, the conversation stays real, the attention stays close, and the city opens at a human pace.

The rhythm of the week
An optional dinner the evening before, on Sunday September 6, for anyone already in town.
Monday, Dive In: breakfast, a market shopping challenge with real vendors, and the grand history of Old Québec.
Tuesday, the Deep End: a four-hour French morning with Xavier, then the afternoon and the Saint-Roch district in the evening.
Wednesday, Breathe and Talk: art, a relaxed conversation hour, and an optional night cruise on the Saint Lawrence.
Thursday, Reflect and Celebrate: a recap over breakfast, the seat of Québec's government, and a long farewell dinner.
Some afternoons are deliberately left open, because immersion needs room to breathe and you can participate in activities later in the evening.***

Led by François Normandeau, founder of The French Club, assisted by a team member. Limited to 10 participants. The fee is $500 USD for this edition and will move to its full value next year ($750 USD). The fee covers Xavier's half-day and the full four-day program; participants arrange their own lodging, meals, transport, and site entries. Plan to arrive by Sunday September 6. Québec City is best explored on foot, so come comfortably mobile and with good walking shoes.

Cette quatrième rencontre poursuit le parcours de lecture composé de sept livres, conçu pour les apprenants qui souhaitent aller au-delà de la grammaire et du vocabulaire, et entrer dans la culture, les nuances et la conversation réelle.
Nous poursuivons avec Ordures ! Journal d'un vidangeur, un récit autobiographique qui nous plonge dans le quotidien d'un éboueur à Montréal. À travers un regard à la fois lucide, drôle et profondément humain, Simon Paré-Poupart raconte son métier, ses collègues et les réalités souvent invisibles du monde du travail. Le livre nous expose à un français plus spontané et plus familier, tout en offrant un portrait authentique de la vie urbaine au Québec.

Ce que nous ferons pendant cette rencontre d'une heure
Nous discuterons des réalités sociales et du monde du travail présentés dans le livre, et nous observerons comment l'auteur utilise une langue proche de l'oral pour raconter son expérience. Comme toujours, nous pratiquerons l'expression d'idées en français dans un cadre structuré et sans pression. Attendez-vous à réfléchir, à réagir et à prendre la parole. Le français imparfait est le bienvenu. L'objectif n'est pas la perfection, mais la capacité de communiquer avec confiance.

À qui s'adresse cette rencontre?
Cette séance convient particulièrement aux apprenants de niveau A2–B1 qui souhaitent découvrir un français plus naturel et plus proche de celui que l'on entend dans la vie quotidienne. Même si certains passages utilisent un registre plus familier, le contexte de la rencontre permettra de les comprendre et d'en discuter ensemble. Vous n'avez pas besoin d'avoir terminé le livre. Vous pouvez rejoindre cette rencontre seule, participer à plusieurs au fil de l'année, ou suivre l'ensemble du cycle. Les sept livres s'échelonnent de juin à novembre 2026, à raison d'une rencontre par mois.

L'immersion à Québec — mars 2027
Pour ceux et celles qui souhaitent aller plus loin, le cycle de lecture est aussi le point de départ d'une immersion de cinq jours à Québec, du 16 au 20 mars 2027.
Chaque matinée commencera autour d'un déjeuner dans un café de la ville, suivi d'un atelier de deux heures consacré à l'un des livres du cycle.
Les après-midis seront dédiés à la découverte de la ville : le Vieux-Québec, le Monastère des Augustines, la Citadelle, le Musée de la civilisation, l'Assemblée nationale et le Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
Les soirées resteront libres, avec des activités optionnelles pour ceux qui le souhaitent.
Ce n'est pas un voyage touristique. C'est une semaine où le français se vit pleinement, dans les rues, les cafés et les institutions culturelles d'une des plus belles villes d'Amérique du Nord.
La participation à l'immersion requiert la lecture d'au moins cinq des sept livres du cycle. Les places sont limitées.

Course Description
This A1-level French course is designed for absolute beginners who have no prior knowledge of the language.
Over the course of 10 weeks, learners will build a strong foundation in French through speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
By the end of the program, students will be able to introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions, hold basic conversations, understand everyday expressions, and use fundamental grammar structures.
This course follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and prepares students to reach the A1 level, enabling them to interact in basic French in real-life situations.

About The French Club
The French Club is a global French-learning community focused on real, practical fluency. Founded in September 2024, it has grown into 24 international Meetup chapters across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, with 35,000+ members and a structured curriculum built in-house (200 modules, from A1 to B2, about 4,000 pages).
