About us
Hi.
Most adults who study French eventually reach the same moment.
They understand quite a lot… but speaking still feels difficult.
If that sounds familiar, you are in the right place.
Welcome.
I’m François Normandeau, founder of The French Club.
We have over 35,000+ members in 24 MeetUp groups around the world (Amsterdam, Atlanta, Berlin, Chicago, Dakar, Dallas, Dubai, Irving, Lagos, London, Madrid, Montreal, Mumbai, NYC, Paris, San Francisco, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington DC).
If you want the same thing most adults want, a clear path to real, practical French you can actually use when speaking, then this is the right place!
And your free gift is ready: the full A1 French course (50 modules), now available on our platform. It’s the equivalent of 1,200+ pages of explanations, examples, exercises, and homework, with extras like audio and video to help you build pronunciation and real speaking reflexes. No catch, no gimmick, no obligation, no credit card needed.
Start your French journey here:
https://www.frenchclub.net/
To unlock it, two quick steps:
1. Create your account.
2. Enroll in the Free Plan (the A1 course is included in the free plan, but it requires enrollment).
Step-by-step guide (account setup + free A1 enrollment):
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fSyoLZDxM2QdHXO0TnDh1UVFP_QjWTXA1Hj-qwcIIMM/
Once you’re in, begin with Module 1 right away.
The goal is momentum, not perfection.
Many of our members begin with the free A1 course, attend a few Meetup events, and eventually join our small-group programs or immersion experiences.
What The French Club is
The French Club is a global community of French learners with free live events on Meetup and a structured learning platform on frenchclub.net.
We focus on real-world fluency through:
- Structured courses from A1 to B2 (50 modules per level).
- Skill workshops that fix the real sticking points (pronunciation, listening speed, writing accuracy, confidence, etc.).
- Conversation events (A1 to B2), including practice sessions and student-led events.
- Small-group immersion experiences.
Meetup is where you’ll discover and join live events.
Our site frenchclub.net is where your learning path is organized in one place (courses, materials, and enrollment).
See you at an event soon !! ツ

French Between the Lines: Your Window into the French-Speaking World
·OnlineOnlineFrench Between the Lines: Your Window into the French-Speaking World
Do you enjoy exploring meaningful topics and current events while improving your French in a practical way?Join us for a dynamic and interactive workshop where French comes to life through real online articles, as we take turns reading them in French and translating them into English, and vice versa.
This workshop is for A2-B2 learners although the content used will be B1–B2 level.
Each session offers a unique opportunity to experience French beyond textbooks, by engaging with a wide range of topics including art, culture, society, lifestyle, international news, and more. Whatever your interests are, there is something for everyone.
***
What to Expect
This free weekly workshop is designed primarily for A2 and B1 learners who want to strengthen their reading comprehension, speaking ability, and ability to translate their thoughts from English to French, in a structured and supportive environment. Beginners will also benefit by hearing French read aloud and broken down into clear English. As participants gain confidence, English articles may also be read and translated into French. These sessions aim to build confidence in reading, pronunciation, and vocabulary by understanding words and expressions in context.
Beginners are welcome to attend, listen, and benefit from exposure to spoken French and guided explanations.
***
How the Workshops Work
- Participants take turns reading short engaging French articles aloud.
- Sentences are translated and discussed as a group including clarification of meaning and vocabulary review.
- Participants may summarize ideas in their own words (in French or English) or react to the content to spark discussion and deepen understanding.
- A short “focus point” is introduced each session (grammar, expressions, sentence structure, or cultural nuance) emphasizing how everyday concepts and ideas are expressed differently in French.
- The emphasis is not on word-for-word translation, but on expressing meaning naturally and clearly.
- The sessions will conclude with a brief time for conversation about the article, prompted by discussion questions.
