Bring your project and join a boisterous group of crafters in the Kogod Courtyard of the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery - American Art Museum. This glass roofed space is climate controlled and has the most beautiful light for crafting. (If there's an event in Courtyard head over to the MLK library Cafe.)

We'll have a short-ish hike in the Oella area. Our speed will be about 2 1/4 mph for 5-ish miles (including an optional out-and-back loop to the Breadery toward the end of the hike) with about 600' of elevation gain. There are no stream crossings and the hills are typically modest but there's one steep, relatively short hill that we'll get behind us early on. We'll have a snack break at the Banneker park. The weather is iffy at this point so watch your email and the website for updates or cancellation. Please do not sign up for this hike if you haven't completed a similar hike recently. The Mountain Club of Maryland (see MCOMD.org) offers multiple alternate hikes of varying difficulty - easy through very strenuous - throughout the week. We will be walking on some grassy sections so long trousers and tick spray are highly recommended even in he winter months. There is no water on the trail. We can have an optional river-side brown bag lunch or, if there's interest, lunch at the Trolley Stop, famous for the loaded (I mean really loaded!) BLTs after the hike. We will try to maintain appropriate distances from each other. **Vest of Many Colors - the Artistic Artifact Design (2 day class)** Friday, March 6 & Saturday, March 7, 2026 10:30 am – 4:30 pm, ½ hour lunch break each session Artistic Artifacts will host Fit for Art Patterns three times this year: you can end 2026 with amazing custom, perfectly fit garments! In this first class, create an artistic vest using their Tabula Rasa jacket pattern. Vests are a great way to use a special fabric in a terrific way, so let’s get started. See if it’s true for you at noon on Sundays. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 12:00 - quick intros. 12:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 1:10 - chat / take off / keep writing. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 1-1:30ish. Writing is very solitary.
