LCC FILMS: The Leopard (1963) | Free to All, Donations Welcomed
Ah, *il Gattopordo.* Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's 1958 psychoanalysis-inspired novel, one of the greatest in Italian and world literatures, became one of the auteur Luchio Visconti's greatest cinematic achievements - which is saying a lot, given the rest of his work. *The Leopoard* inspired the coinage of the term ["Lampedusa strategy"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Di_Lampedusa_strategy) to describe the principle, so often observed in liberal-democratic politics (although not so much lately) of giving the opposition just enough of what they demand that they fail to notice the system and its powers remain unchanged. "If we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change." Never have the wars of liberal nationalism and the rise of the modern bourgeoisie - off the backs but often with the blessings of the old nobility - have been rendered so gorgeously or with such style, on page or on screen.
In Sicily in the year 1860, Don Fabrizio Corbera, Prince of Salina, enjoys the customary comforts and privileges of his ancestry. War has broken out between the armies of Francis II of the Two Sicilies and the insurgent volunteer redshirts of Giuseppe Garibaldi. Among the rebels is the Prince's nephew, Tancredi Falconeri, whose romantic politics the Prince hesitantly accepts with some whimsical sympathy. Upset by the uprising, the Prince departs to Palermo. Garibaldi's army subjugates the city and expropriates Sicily from the Bourbons. The Prince muses upon the inevitability of change, with the middle class displacing the ruling class while on the surface everything remains the same. Or does it?
This visual feast, starring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and the young soon-to-be-fascist Alain Delon, marks the return of LCC's free films series for 2026! We'll be collecting donations to help support our generous hosts for this week at the London Action Resource Centre, Whitechapel - so bring a few quid if you can!
Doors will open from 7:00PM for a prompt 7:30PM start. Bring your own beverages and snacks, though we'll try to provide a few nibbles.

Showbiz Spotlight: Music, Theatre, Radio, Film, Media & TV Walkin Tour + Drinks
If youāre artistic and creative ā or were always that kid who dreamed of working in exciting sexi professions of entertainment, fashion, music or the performing arts ā then this will be right up your street!
An insider showbiz and entertainment walk led by someone whoās lived inside the industry - a radio music founder, presentator and club DJ, a former Correspondent for a global News Agency bigger than the BBC, an advertising / media agency exe, a red-carpet luxury fashion brand strategist and a failed boy band muscian (I still got the spiked hair!). So you can expect stories to be told with real passion, authenticity, personality and first hand knowledge...
This 90 mins backstage wander will take you straight through Londonās creative arts & entertainment industry showbiz bloodstream. Weāre talking live broadcasting nerve centres, global pop stars, legendary stages, Hollywood hideouts, iconic comedy clubs, ad agencies that won general elections (think Nigella Lawson), recording studios, fashion designers, radio powerhouses, and the secret corners where reputations are negotiated over overpriced cocktails ā all set against the music soundtrack of a city thatās launched everything from Britpop to boybands to global club culture.
Youāll hear where the UKās biggest radio stations broke chartātoppers annd turned unknowns into global popstars, where stars of the film and stage made their name, how certain streets shaped entire genres, how comedians went from dingy basements to national treasures, and why Londonās music scene has always been the cityās loudest, messiest, most influential creative engine in the world
This free tour will unapologetically appeal to:
* **Popāculture lovers** who treat celebrity interviews and album drops like sacred texts
* **Creatives & media people** who love a bit of insider sparkle and know the difference between a PR stunt and a genuine cultural moment
* **Entertainment Culture lovers** who collect fun facts from music, film, art and can name their favourite live performance of all time
* **People working in or have a passion for films, theatre, radio, music, comedy, TV, dance, media, advertising** (**e,g M&C Saatchi)**, **performing arts** and everything in between
* Anyone craving something different and creative yet authentic, fun with just the right amount of chaos
Expect a crowd that gets excited about the things normal people pretend not to care about ā iconic ad campaigns, legendary performances, scandalous headlines, radio gossip, film magic, music history, and the beautiful mess of how culture actually gets made.
Youāll walk, youāll laugh, youāll learn things you absolutely did not expect, and youāll leave feeling like youāve unlocked a secret level of London ā the one where the stories, the scandals, and the soundtracks all collide

AnimanJapan Anime & Manga Club!
If you love anime & manga then please join us for our weekly meetups, where we basically just sit, chat and read anime & manga!
We usually sit in the back of the pub. If the weather is nice we may sit outside at the back of the pub, or even outside on the downstairs floor.
In this meetup, you can BYOM (bring your own manga) or read one from the selection we will bring. See this as an opportunity to discover, recommend or simply enjoy Japanese comics & anime with like-minded people!
Note: This is not a book club.
Also, the TCR bar is kind enough to allow us to use their space to host this meetup, and has asked if possible for attendees to support the venue by purchasing a drink or food while you're there. Please don't bring your own food or drink to consume at the venue, as the venue does not allow this!

šš¬ THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE
***š® Because apparently saving the Mushroom Kingdom wasnāt big enoughā¦***
**š Hello guys!** Letās get ready to jump down the warp pipe into the Mushroom Kingdom ā and then blast off into space ā as we head out to watch the brand-new **Super Mario Bros. sequel** together. Weāll meet up, share some laughs, and enjoy the adventure as a group. ***Feel free to bring along your favourite Mario gear*** *ā totally optional, but definitely encouraged for some extra fun.*
From what we know, this new sequel is set to take Mario, Luigi, and the gang beyond the **Mushroom Kingdom** and into outer space. The classic elements, like iconic mushrooms and power-ups ā remain, but the adventure expands into different galaxies, adding a grand cosmic scale.
Itās exciting to note that directors **Aaron Horvath** and **Michael Jelenic**, who brought their unique humour and style to the original film, are back for this sequel, ensuring that same charm and fun. Let's hope the sequel will build on the originalās charm and take the classic Mario energy to a whole new level
Weāll keep things easygoing with a casual **pre-social** before the movie, then head into the screening together. Afterward, weāll wrap things up with a short film review and a chat.
Weāll meet for drinks at **Victory House Wine Bar** before heading to **Vue West End (Leicester Square).**

Main Library, Meeting Room 2B
Join us for a welcoming evening of reflection, gentle music, and meaningful conversation. Weāll begin with a short grounding moment, followed by a brief reading from spiritual or philosophical traditions, and an open reflection circle where participants can share (or simply listen).

Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together for an Arthouse Movie Friday event to see the A24 dark comedy /romance / psychological-thriller, THE DRAMA! The film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is challenged when one discovers unsettling truths about the other. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: The film follows a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. The film comes from A24, is written/directed by Kristoffer Borgli stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoƫ Winters.
ZENDAYA-PATTINSON TRIFECTA CHALLENGE: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will star in THREE movies together this year, including THE DRAMA, Christopher Nolanās THE ODYSSEY this Summer and Denis Villeneuveās DUNE: PART THREE at Christmas!
TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk)
BUZZ & REVIEWS: Overall some solid early reviews but this one seems to be a bit polarizing! Weāll have to see for ourselves. Those in the āloved itā camp say is not the rom-com the trailers would have you to believe! Instead, a twisty darkly comedic drama thatās āanchored by two compelling performances,ā āan original idea, great cast, and a movie thatās gonna have people talking at the end of it!ā
PLAN: A slightly later showtime so weāll go with dinner before the show this time. Hereās the plan: For dinner before the movie, meet at nearby BRASSICA between 5:45 and 6:00pm. Go through the line, and weāll try to snag as many of the high-top tables as we can. For the movie, please purchase your ticket for the 7:30pm showing and weāll meet in the lobby area between 7:00 and 7:15pm. Iāll be with the dinner group and will try to get there as close to 7pm as possible. Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater. When you purchase yours at counter, be sure to mention youāre with the Movie Group for admission and concession discounts.
Take care and look forward to seeing you there, Dan
