AnimanJapan Anime & Manga Club!
AnimanJapan Anime & Manga Club!
If you love anime & manga then please join us for our weekly meetups, where we basically just sit, chat and read anime & manga! We usually sit in the back of the pub. If the weather is nice we may sit outside at the back of the pub, or even outside on the downstairs floor. In this meetup, you can BYOM (bring your own manga) or read one from the selection we will bring. See this as an opportunity to discover, recommend or simply enjoy Japanese comics & anime with like-minded people! Note: This is not a book club. Also, the TCR bar is kind enough to allow us to use their space to host this meetup, and has asked if possible for attendees to support the venue by purchasing a drink or food while you're there. Please don't bring your own food or drink to consume at the venue, as the venue does not allow this! You can also join our discord group: [https://discord.gg/nDMBbQ2CKu](https://discord.gg/nDMBbQ2CKu)

I have some spare bikes for children and adults, and I'm proposing a nice cycling experience, around Broxbourne. After cycling, we can play ping-pong, or board games, if the weather is not good.

This meal is a celebration of balance — indulgence without excess, spice with restraint, and dishes that invite conversation as much as comfort. Drawing from royal Indian culinary traditions and reimagined through contemporary forms, the menu reflects a table where cultures meet, stories unfold, and time slows down. Join us for a thoughtfully paced vegan dining experience, where crisp, refreshing beginnings give way to rich, comforting mains and a dessert that lingers softly at the end. Each course has been designed to echo both royal Indian flavours and globally familiar forms — tacos, arancini, tempura — creating a menu that feels welcoming, elegant, and quietly indulgent. **What to Expect** * **Royal Mélange** *Shaved cucumber dressed in a delicate rosewater vinaigrette — light, aromatic, and refreshing* * **Nawabi Tempura** *Crisp seasonal vegetables served with a creamy, gently spiced curry* * **Galouti Taco** *An indulgent, soft kebab cooked with spices and herbs, folded into a warm taco* * **Okra Burani** *Creamy spiced yogurt with crisp okra chips, finished with fresh herbs* * **Makhani Arancini** *Masala rice arancini paired with a rich, velvety makhani gravy* * **Pistachio Kulfi Cheesecake** *A nutty, kulfi-inspired cheesecake delicately flavoured with pistachio and cardamom* The menu is accompanied by **Nawabi Nectar**, a house mocktail/cocktail crafted to complement the aromas and richness of the evening. **The Shahi Table** is more than a meal — it’s an invitation to gather, to slow down, and to experience Indian flavours through a lens of elegance, warmth, and shared pleasure. Come for the flavours. Stay for the feeling. We look forward to welcoming you to the Shahi table. *This is an intimate gathering of 10 people, BYOB if you wish.*

Sultana’s Dream & Padmarag—Bangladesh
Sultana’s Dream & Padmarag—Bangladesh
Namaskar, One of the first science-fiction utopian stories and one of the first feminist utopias by celebrated pioneering feminist, educator, activist, and Bengali writer Rokeya Hossain. As a pioneering work of science fiction and feminist utopian literature at the turn of the century, *Sultana's Dream* is strikingly advanced in its critique of patriarchy, war, industrialization, and the exploitation of the natural world, speaking to the concerns of our contemporary world as much as its own. At a time when British colonialism was using the treatment of women in India as justification for colonial intervention there, Hossain's story, in imagining a world in which men rather than women are kept inside, positions her protest against Islamic patriarchy within a larger feminist vision that takes on Western as well as Islamic forms of gender hierarchy. Her novella *Padmarag* is similarly utopian in its depiction of a women-run school and welfare center, and is both feminist and anti-colonial in its outlook. In both these works, Hossain seizes the critique of gender roles in India away from Western commentators and turns it against British interference, while also enlarging the critique to take on the problem of gender more broadly. We‘ll continue with our 2026 reading list: 4-*The Opium War: Drugs, Dreams and the Making of China* by Julia Lovell 5-*Rickshaw Boy* by Lao She—China 6-*The* *Motorcycle Diaries* by Che Guevara 7-*One Hundred Years of Solitude* by Gabriel García Márquez—Colombia 8-*How Europe Underdeveloped Africa* by Walter Rodney 9-*Heart of Darkness* by Polish author Joseph Conrad—Congo 10-*The Wretched of the Earth* by Frantz Fanon 11-*Homegoing* by Yaa Gyasi—Ghana 12-*Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty* by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together for an Arthouse Movie Friday event to see the A24 dark comedy /romance / psychological-thriller, THE DRAMA! The film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is challenged when one discovers unsettling truths about the other. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: The film follows a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. The film comes from A24, is written/directed by Kristoffer Borgli stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters. QUICK WORD OF WARNING: The film hasn’t screened for critics yet and most of the details are being kept tightly under wraps. But, early buzz (possibly promotional) says the film is a brilliant psychological thriller/romance but also provocative, twisty and some contains occasional uncomfortable viewing! I love the cast and trailer, so look forward to seeing for ourselves! ZENDAYA-PATTINSON TRIFECTA CHALLENGE: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will star in THREE movies together this year, including THE DRAMA, Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY this Summer and Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE: PART THREE at Christmas! TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk) PLAN: We’ll plan for 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater but early arrival is advised. Possibly post-movie get-together at the nearby Rusty Bucket! Complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. Take care and look forward to seeing you there, Dan
