AnimanJapan Anime & Manga Club!
If you love anime & manga then please join us for our weekly meetups, where we basically just sit, chat and read anime & manga!
We usually sit in the back of the pub. If the weather is nice we may sit outside at the back of the pub, or even outside on the downstairs floor.
In this meetup, you can BYOM (bring your own manga) or read one from the selection we will bring. See this as an opportunity to discover, recommend or simply enjoy Japanese comics & anime with like-minded people!
Note: This is not a book club.
Also, the TCR bar is kind enough to allow us to use their space to host this meetup, and has asked if possible for attendees to support the venue by purchasing a drink or food while you're there. Please don't bring your own food or drink to consume at the venue, as the venue does not allow this!

Beginners' Watercolour Animals
A relaxed, beginner-friendly watercolour animal painting class focused on creativity, connection, and confidence
**Beginnerâs Watercolour Animal Painting Class**
This relaxed and welcoming class is all about enjoying the process of painting animals in watercolour, whatever your experience level. Itâs a gentle, step-by-step session designed especially for beginners, but equally loved by painters whoâve attended Annâs classes before and want to build confidence, refresh skills, or simply enjoy some creative time. Expect a calm, friendly atmosphere where questions are encouraged.
Painting together is as much about connection as it is about technique. Thereâll be a break midway through with refreshments, giving you time to chat, share work-in-progress, and get to know others who love watercolour just as much as you do. Many students find these sessions deeply therapeuticâa chance to slow down, focus, and enjoy a few hours of creativity in good company.
Youâll be guided through clear demonstrations and supported throughout, with the freedom to work at your own pace. You can follow along with the class reference during the paint-along, or bring your own animal image if youâd prefer. By the end of the session, youâll leave with new skills, a finished painting, and (hopefully!) a few new creative friends.
**What weâll cover:**
* Creating soft, believable fur effects in watercolour
* Painting lively, expressive animal eyes
* Drafting animals using simple shapes and easy proportions
* Using special effects such as salt and âdropping inâ colour to create texture
* A guided paint-along demonstration
* *or*: bring your own reference image and paint that during the demonstration time
**About your teacher**
Ann Mackowski is an award-winning watercolourist with over 15 years of teaching experience and a warm, encouraging approach that puts students instantly at ease. She exhibits internationally, including with the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours, appeared on *Sky Landscape Artist of the Year*, and was the winner of the Espronceda 2020 residency in Spain. Ann is known for making watercolour feel accessible and enjoyable, while offering thoughtful guidance that keeps even returning students inspired and growing.

**What to expect:** We officially play from **2 PM to 7 PM**, but we keep it casual. Show up when you can, and stay as long as you like. If youâre having a good time, thereâs usually a group that stays late for a few extra pints and chat.
**Some house rules:**

* We don't charge a cover fee, so please help support the pub by ordering food and drink throughout the afternoon.
* Please keep your RSVPs updated so we can manage numbers and ensure we can reserve enough tables.

Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together for an Arthouse Movie Friday event to see the A24 dark comedy /romance / psychological-thriller, THE DRAMA! The film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is challenged when one discovers unsettling truths about the other. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: The film follows a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. The film comes from A24, is written/directed by Kristoffer Borgli stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters.
QUICK WORD OF WARNING: The film hasnât screened for critics yet and most of the details are being kept tightly under wraps. But, early buzz (possibly promotional) says the film is a brilliant psychological thriller/romance but also provocative, twisty and some contains occasional uncomfortable viewing! I love the cast and trailer, so look forward to seeing for ourselves!
ZENDAYA-PATTINSON TRIFECTA CHALLENGE: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will star in THREE movies together this year, including THE DRAMA, Christopher Nolanâs THE ODYSSEY this Summer and Denis Villeneuveâs DUNE: PART THREE at Christmas!
TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk)
PLAN: Weâll plan for 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater but early arrival is advised. Possibly post-movie get-together at the nearby Rusty Bucket! Complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
Take care and look forward to seeing you there, Dan
