All Out of Bubblegum Film Club 132 / Amadeus
Amadeus is a 1984 American period drama film directed by Miloš Forman. Peter Shaffer adapted it from his 1979 stage play, inspired by Alexander Pushkin's 1830 play Mozart and Salieri. Shaffer described it as a "fantasia on [a real-life] theme", as it imagines a rivalry between two 18th-century Vienna composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce) and Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham). Salieri struggles to reconcile his professional admiration and jealous hatred for Mozart, and resolves to ruin Mozart's career as his form of vengeance against God. It was nominated for 53 awards and won 40, including 8 Academy Awards (including Best Picture), four BAFTA Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards (including Best Motion Picture – Drama). Abraham and Hulce were both nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, with Abraham winning. In 1998, the American Film Institute ranked it 53rd on its 100 Years... 100 Movies list. In 2019, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant"
Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion. It’s not a screening. 🙏
We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema.

Tuesday Tabletop Games at Premiere Cinemas
It's **Tuesday** & our main night of the week & the fun & games are just getting started here at DWL!
We're located here in the Cinema (which can be found on the 3rd floor of the Mercury Mall Shopping Centre) on:
* **Tuesdays & Thursdays**: From 17:30 to 22:00.

🦁 And we're still running every Monday 6pm to 11pm at the Golden Lion Pub too.
🌭☕ There are hot & cold food & drink options available from the cinema at low prices!

And their menu is surprisingly cheap! Especially compared to any other cinema.
Here's some cool examples of some great **offers**:
Buy a large **Popcorn** (it's a huge bucket!) or a large **fizzy drink** & it'll initially cost you £4, BUT, take your bucket or cup back to the bar for a **refill** & the cinema will refill it back up to the top for just £2! 🍿🥤
That's half price Popcorn & Pop!
This also applies to **Ice Blasts** too (£5 initially but to refill it's just £3).
There's also Hot Dogs, Nachos, Pick n Mix & many other treats in store too! Check out their menu 😋
If you have any questions, please ask & let the fun commence! 🎲

********** Will you invite me to something to drink?**********
Yes! The price includes a glass of wine, a beer or a soft drink: up to you!
********** I am a beginner in Spanish, is this for me?**********
Absolutely! We teach Spanish so we have created this Cañary Wharf to help our students to improve their fluency and feel the Spanish mood. Don't panic: you will find Spanish teachers around who will support you during the conversation. You are not expected to be bilingual, just to have a good attitude!
********** I am a Spanish native and I work in the area, can I pop in? **********
For sure! We are pretty sure that you will have a good time, don't hesitate to get your ticket!
We teach very interesting people and our friends are super cool, so, why not? We only ask you to try to don't swap to English as the purpose is to speak in Spanish!
********** Ey I am/ I used to be your student, do I have a discount!? **********
Yes! Drop us a quick email and we will send you the code.
********** Where will it take place? **********
It will take place in Canary Wharf, vibrant business heart of London. We will reveal the details of the venue to our guests per email, so you first need to get your ticket!
********** What should I bring with me? **********
-Good attitude (mandatory)
-Business cards (optional, you never know!)
-Pen and paper (hopefully you will learn a lot!)
-Oyster card (At the end of the event you need to arrive home, don't you?)
********** Why are you guys always talking about Spanish for the REAL business world **********
We are sure that there are millions of great academies in the world to learn Spanish... Present tenses, subjuntivo, "me gusta el verano"... Well, you know what we mean.
Spanish for Executives we know the importance of everything else: the big challenge to get into the real business, big corps and SMEs. All the cultural details to have in consideration at the same time, the etiquette, the "after-work", the timings: all the kind of things that you won't learn "filling the gaps".
You will love us.

Cine: 12 sillas - Cuba
La película empieza a las dos de la tarde; no hay anuncios ni tráilers de otras películas, dura hora y media y después nos tomaremos algo para hablar de lo que nos ha parecido.
This first feature film by Cuba's godfather of cinema, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, is a cunning adaptation of a comic novel from the early years of the USSR by Ilf and Petrov.
The madcap plot concerns the hunt for family jewels hidden by a wealthy Cuban matriarch before she died, in one of a set of 12 dining chairs which have been sold off individually. Son-in-law Hipólito and his former chauffeur Oscar both embark on a desperate adventure to find the ‘treasure’ before each other or the state does. They struggle to understand the new Cuban society, its rejection of class status, individual wealth and not to mention the maze of new official state organisations – a mix of real and imagined.
When the movie was made, the revolution in Cuba was only 2 years old, filming had to be paused in April 1961 when the US attacked at Playa Girón, and the impact of the new US blockade was overwhelming. For a newly liberated country in those circumstances to be able to laugh at itself in this joyful way is astonishingly confident. Conventions of silent movies, slapstick, animation and social realism are all evident in this unmissable first comedy of the revolution.
