We will shortly be arriving at...
…Platform 37\*
(pictured: the east elevation from York Way)
More than 20 years ago, the celebrated ‘blue veil’ in Allies + Morrison’s Masterplan drawings defined a long, imperforate block here, literally following the paths the railways had made, entering and spreading out across the site.
An initial proposal, by AHMM, was abandoned in 2016, after joint Google founder Larry Page described it as ‘too boring’.
Danish metamodernist Bjarte Ingels and critic-of-the-UK-architectural-profession Thomas Heatherwick were appointed to collaboratively re-design Google’s new ‘groundscraper’, 3rd largest office building in the UK\*\*, intended to accommodate all 7000 London 'Googlers’. It is almost finished, expected to open this autumn, and is the final piece in the King’s Cross Central puzzle.
We're going to meet outside Thomas Heatherwick’s new Studio in Argyle Street, then see AHMM’s 10-storey Belgrove House, the London Discovery Research Centre\*\*\* intended for research into diseases of ageing and human biology, and then the site in Midland Road, where Richard Rogers’ British Library Extension, including tunnels and passageways for Crossrail 2, will soon be taking shape. It requires the demolition of Long & Kentish’s Centre for Conservation, which was only completed in 2007!
Adjacent is HOK/PLP’s Francis Crick Institute, and then, passing through St Pancras International Station we emerge in Pancras Square, to see Google’s current building at No 6.
Cutting through the station forecourt, we enter the casbah-like ‘Regent Quarter’, the first area around King’s Cross Station to be regenerated.
Its small-scale offices, retail and leisure businesses are in a mixture of refurbished and new buildings arranged around an informal network of passageways and back courts, which leads us to York Way and the stunning, extraordinary east elevation of Platform 37, superbly juxtaposed with the glazed north gables of Lewis Cubitt’s 1852 twin train-sheds.
At this point in the walk, it’s too early to make up your mind about the design, but it’s obviously without precedent\*\*\*\*, and, possibly, is not the work of a human hand!
From the towpath of the Regent’s Canal, we can see the north elevation, rearing up from the end of the 330m long building, equivalent to a 80-storey skyscraper on its side.
Finally, King’s Boulevard!
Here it is the backdrop to the busiest desire-line in London!
Anticipation, excitement, car-free of course, safe and secure, and bike-free, thanks to the wardens.
We’ll probably never get to see inside, but I can describe the structural system, hanging the floors from intermediate trusses leaving continuous, and single-, double- and triple-height workspaces in open accommodation, producing continuously cascading work environments, running from one end of the building to the other, very much like open-gangway railway carriages.
On the ground floor will be retail, plus Google’s own *AI Exchange*, a public venue ‘designed to demystify artificial intelligence through free educational programming, interactive exhibitions, and cultural events’.
It’s dedicated to exploring AI's impact on society and increasing public understanding.
But this building's contribution is to the public realm: like a geological feature: an escarpment, an endless cliff, meandering along a human coast of footfall.
Not as sophisticated as Foster's Bloomberg, not as pure as Piano's Paddington Square. A flag waving in a breeze will never conform to a geometric pattern: it’s a dashed-off sketch, not a thesis!
But even so, unique, different, memorable and like many of Google’s products, ‘free’ to Londoners!
By the way, if AI is half as good as they say, why does Google need so many staff? And such a big building? And what do all those staff do?
I will explain.
Hope you can come!
Andy
\* Google’s new, recently announced, official name for their London HQ.
\*\*only Nos 22 and 100 Bishopsgate are larger.
\*\*\*Developed by Precis Advisory for US pharmaceutical giant Merck, who terminated their involvement last September, but the shell is now topped out and nearing completion.
\*\*\*\* perhaps echoes of the London Bloomberg Building, the Centre Pompidou and the Chips Building by Will Alsop?

Write Together Social (Holborn)
**Write together with other writers. If you write more surrounded by others, I hope you'll join these new sessions.**
Starting up regular Saturday sessions where we writers will gather to write in the same space. There will be plenty of time for you to push forward your own individual projects, but I can provide a writing prompt, short exercise or challenge to anyone who needs them.
You can book a spot for a guest with your ticket if you want to bring a writing friend with you. They don't have to be a member of our group.
Timing:
From **12:30** grab a drink, a table and set up
**12:35** individual writing time\*
*\*if you'd like a prompt or writing exercise, please ask when you arrive.*
**13:15** take a breath (stand up, stretch, look out window, tea, wine etc)
**14:00** end of writing time
**14:00** we'll gather at the same table to say hello, compare notes and how we got on with our projects in the session
**14:45(ish)** end of session but you don't have to stop if you're mid-flow. If you want to stay on and keep writing, please do so.
I'm hosting this in the main public area of the pub so you can come and go as you please. You can come to write for a short time or the whole thing.
I've allowed two hours for the session but you can easily stay on longer if you wish. I will be there for 12pm when the pub opens to grab us the horseshoe of tables (pictured above) so most of us can be sitting in the same vicinity together. That said, it's a spacious pub so if you want to spread out and choose your own spot, feel free.
Manners suggest that you'll buy a drink and perhaps a snack or two from the pub as a part of using their table. Please don't bring your own drinks from elsewhere (water bottles included) as the pub will never let us back in. See their menu on the website for more info.
Location: The Square Pig, 30-32 Procter St, London WC1V 6NX. Closest tube is Holborn.

The Grand Flaneur Walk
*If that sounds like a bit of you, then get **Sunday 17 May 2026** in your diary. It sees the return of the Grand Flaneur Walk, in which the dapperest chaps and chapesses of London Town dress up to the nines in their finest seersucker, blazers, boaters and playsuits, before embarking on the dandiest — and let's be honest, showiest — stroll around central London you're likely to witness.*
*The rendezvous, for anyone who wishes to watch or take part (it's open to all), is 12pm at [Courtyard Wine Cellars](https://www.coventgarden.london/brand-directory/courtyard-wine-cellars) in Covent Garden, where a complimentary dram is promised for participants, before a few stirring words on the subject of flanerie shared by Chap editor Gustav Temple. After this, the budding boulevardiers set on their 'merry way towards Baudelaire only knows where'.*

* Walthamstow Wetlands is a 211-hectare nature reserve adjacent to the River Lea. What to bring:
Comfortable footwear
Water
Photo-taking gadgets and chargers
An umbrella just in case (it's London after all)
The walk is free for members who have subscribed for an annual membership. For other members the fee is £5 cash/card on arrival to contribute towards the organiser's meetup fees and costs.

All walks are free for the NHS staff (also welcome to bring a guest).

Girlies in Tech Dinner | London, UK Edition
London girlies… we’re doing it 🇬🇧✨
I’ll be in London **May 14–18**, and I’m hosting the **first-ever [Girlies in Tech dinner](https://luma.com/girliesintechdinner) in London**.
If you’re a **designer, engineer, PM, founder, student, intern, or just generally a woman working in tech**, I’d love to meet you. These dinners are meant to be small, relaxed, and actually social — the goal is to meet new people and hopefully leave with a few new friends in tech.
📍 Dinner will be at **Agrodolce London**, a cozy Italian spot in **Fitzrovia** right in the **West End**. Think a little **West End girl energy.**
It’s super easy to get to — just a short walk from **Goodge Street Station** on the Northern Line, and there are also tons of buses nearby.
If you’re a student at University of London, senior level techie, live around the West End, or just want to come into town for dinner, you’re very welcome.
A few quick details:
🍝 **Small dinner (11 seats total)**
🗓 **May 16, 2026**
💸 **Pay your own meal** (RSVP is free)
These dinners have been a **hot commodity in the U.S.** — they’ve sold out quickly in **New York City**, **Chicago**, and **Washington, D.C.** — so I’m excited to finally bring one to London.
Seats are limited, but if you’re interested, RSVP and come join us for a cozy Italian dinner with other women in tech.
And if this one fills up quickly… I’ll definitely plan another London meetup in the future.
If you have any questions, feel free to [reach out](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jrdnhrrsn/) 💛

Building Scalable Customer Identity Resolution Pipelines on AWS Using AI
Customer identity resolution becomes increasingly complex as organizations scale across multiple systems, regions, and data formats. Traditional rule-based approaches often fail to keep up with data variability, require constant manual tuning, and struggle with real-time processing needs.
This session presents a practical approach to building a scalable identity resolution pipeline using AWS services and modern AI techniques. The architecture combines data ingestion through Amazon S3 and AWS Glue, transformation pipelines using Spark on EMR, and machine learning models deployed via SageMaker for entity matching and standardization. Graph-based relationship modeling is implemented using Amazon Neptune to improve resolution accuracy by incorporating household and shared attribute context.
We will walk through how machine learning models can be used for name and address normalization, how intelligent blocking strategies improve matching efficiency, and how feedback loops can be introduced to continuously improve accuracy. The session also highlights how serverless components such as AWS Lambda can be used for orchestration and real-time processing.

No slides required — just a welcoming space to exchange ideas and keep the local AI conversation moving.
If you’d like to take the stage, message \*\*Chris (the organizer)\*\*with a **title and short description** of what you’d like to share.
Whether you’re deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.
