A Table for Arab & North African Women — Food, Conversation & New Friends
**Arab & North African *Women* in Berlin — Let's Eat & Actually Connect**
Having people around you who truly get you makes life in Berlin feel completely different. But finding that as an Arab or North African woman here, women who share your background, your humour, your food, your story, is harder than it should be.
I'm Aisha, I'm mixed Moroccan and married to a Jordanian — and I know that feeling personally. So I opened a table for exactly that.
**You're welcome here if you are:**
* 🌍 Arab, North African, or mixed
* 💛 A friend, partner or colleague who loves Arab culture and wants to connect
* 🌱 Curious about plant-based food or already vegan
**What to expect:**
* 🧆 Real Arab-inspired vegan food at LoveBurger, Neukölln
* 💬 Honest conversation — no explaining yourself, just be yourself
* 🪑 Maximum 15 seats — intimate on purpose
* 🆓 Free entry, order your food
* 📅 Friday, 27th March at 7pm
*Come hungry. Leave with someone's number.*
Cinema & Discussion: Life in a Beat (Greek Film Festival)
We invite you to join us for a shared cinema experience followed by an open discussion.
Together we will watch *“Life in a Beat”*, a powerful and intimate coming-of-age drama from Greece.
The film follows Lena, a 20-year-old woman living with her family in Athens under difficult circumstances. Struggling with poverty, tension at home, and the desire for independence, her life takes a sudden turn when she loses her job and discovers she is pregnant. What unfolds is a deeply human story — both harsh and tender — about responsibility, survival, and the search for a way forward.

**Address**: Belziger Str. 25, 10823 Berlin.
**No previous experience required!** The classes are in English and German.
**Our website**: [Kenjutsu Berlin - Official school of Katori Shinto-ryu in Berlin (katoriberlin.org)](https://katoriberlin.org/)
**Katori Shintō-ryū** is one of the oldest Japanese sword fighting traditions (koryū) still practised today and is recognized by the Japanese government as a cultural intangeable asset. The school was founded in the middle of the 15th century by Iizasa Chōisai Ienao at the Katori Shrine (Katori jingū) and has become the origin of numerous other martial arts schools over the course of its almost 600-year history.
The training consists of the continuous repetition of fixed sequences of movements (kata) and includes the use of classic Japanese weapons such as the sword (iai-jutsu, battō-jutsu, ken-jutsu, ryōtō-jutsu, kodachi-jutsu), the long staff (bō-jutsu), the lance (naginata-jutsu) and the spear (sō-jutsu), as well as unarmed disciplines, tactics and spiritual aspects.
**The Katori Berlin dojo** is the only official shibu of Otake Nobutoshi-shihan’s dojo Shinbukan in Germany and fully dedicated to the transmission and study of one martial tradition: Tenshinshō-den Katori Shintō-ryū. Through these efforts we aim to contribute to the cultural preservation of this martial tradition. The dojo has one officially appointed shidosha.
**Our sensei**: Sebastian Graetz has been active in martial arts since 1997. After almost 15 years of taekwondo in Berlin, he started with Katori Shintō-ryū in Asia in 2014. Since then, he has studied in Japan with Ōtake Risuke-shihan and Ōtake Nobutoshi-shihan, and in Vietnam with Malte Stokhof-shihandai. In 2023, he received his Menkyo license and permission to set up a training group in Berlin the following year.
Gentle Flow & Sound Bath
This nourishing 60-minute session blends a gentle, feel-good yoga flow with immersive sound healing to help you move, breathe, and soften back into yourself.
We begin with a slow, intuitive flow designed to release tension, awaken the body, and create a sense of ease and fluidity. Movements are accessible and adaptable, focusing on grounding, opening the heart, and reconnecting to natural rhythm rather than pushing or striving. Breath awareness guides each transition, allowing the practice to feel both energizing and calming.
As the body settles, the session gradually transitions into a deeply restful sound journey. Using instruments such as singing bowls, chimes and voice gently wash through the nervous system, supporting relaxation, emotional release, and creative flow. You're invited to rest, receive, and simply be.
This class is ideal if you're seeking:
* A gentle yet uplifting movement practice
* Stress relief and nervous system reset
* A sense of grounding, creativity, and embodied calm
* A mindful experience that blends movement, sound, and presence
No prior yoga or sound healing experience is needed. Come as you are - curious, tired, inspired, or simply in need of a pause.
✨ Move. Feel. Rest. Reset. ✨
Bring your own mat or use one of ours.

Liturgy of the Palms - Saturday Evening Worship in English with Holy Communion
Join us for our new Saturday Evening Worship with Holy Communion—a service for night owls and anyone who needs a different rhythm for the weekend. Centered on Matthew 21:1–11, Palm Sunday brings a holy collision: joy and sorrow, hope and heartbreak, the stories we tell ourselves and the hard truths we can’t avoid. The city cries “Hosanna!”—and yet the road beneath the celebration turns toward the cross.
That tension isn’t just ancient history; it’s the texture of our lives. We know what it is to cling to false hopes, to watch dreams unravel, to feel grief slip into moments we wanted to be purely joyful. In church, we name this—not to drain the celebration, but to tell the truth in God’s presence. Because Christ meets us in what’s real, and God’s hope is deeper than our dashed expectations.
We’ll gather in a traditional liturgy, share Holy Communion, and then enjoy warm fellowship afterward. All are welcome. We mean it: ALL.

Saturday Mornings @ East Market
Let's grab some coffee/food and share a morning chat! The East Market has an ample parking lot and outdoor and indoor seating.
Grab a cup of coffee from Winston's Coffee & Waffles or on your way to East Market and meet us on the second floor - table behind or east of the elevator. If the weather cooperates we will be meeting in the patio.
Per what this group is about: "Everyone is welcome! International transplants to Columbus who want to improve language skills, Columbus residents who want to discuss international travel and culture, and anyone who enjoys getting together for good conversations."
Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together for an Arthouse Movie Friday event to see the A24 dark comedy /romance / psychological-thriller, THE DRAMA! The film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is challenged when one discovers unsettling truths about the other. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: The film follows a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. The film comes from A24, is written/directed by Kristoffer Borgli stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters.
QUICK WORD OF WARNING: The film hasn’t screened for critics yet and most of the details are being kept tightly under wraps. But, early buzz (possibly promotional) says the film is a brilliant psychological thriller/romance but also provocative, twisty and some contains occasional uncomfortable viewing! I love the cast and trailer, so look forward to seeing for ourselves!
ZENDAYA-PATTINSON TRIFECTA CHALLENGE: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will star in THREE movies together this year, including THE DRAMA, Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY this Summer and Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE: PART THREE at Christmas!
TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk)
PLAN: We’ll plan for 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater but early arrival is advised. Possibly post-movie get-together at the nearby Rusty Bucket! Complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
Take care and look forward to seeing you there, Dan
