Day trip by coach - Historic Gloucester! (NOW FULL)
THE TRIP IS NOW FULL, IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND, ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST AND I WILL CONTACT YOU IF A PLACE BECOMES AVAILABLE.
Come along on Saturday 7th March to visit the historic city of Gloucester!
**About Gloucester**
Gloucester lies close to the Welsh border, on the River Severn and is the county town of Gloucestershire. It was founded in AD97 by the Romans and they named it; *'Colonia Nervia Glevensium'*.
After the Romans left in the late 4th century, Gloucester was captured by the Saxons in 577. Its situation on a navigable river, and the foundation in 681 of the abbey of St Peter by Æthelred, favoured the growth of the town. In the early 10th century the remains of Saint Oswald were brought to a small church in Gloucester, bringing many pilgrims to the town.
The core street layout is thought to date back to late Saxon times. In 1216 King Henry III, aged only ten years, was crowned with a gilded iron ring in the Chapter House of Gloucester Cathedral.
Gloucester is known for its 7th century cathedral (which featured in three Harry Potter films) and its good number of medieval and Tudor period gabled and half timbered houses from the 15th & 16th centuries.
**Itinerary**
We will be visiting the cathedral for a guided tour and having a guided tour of the city. The cathedral tour is £8 per person and the guided tour of the city is £8 per person. (payable on the day by cash or credit card).

It is my pleasure to invite you to Part III of Italian artists at the V&A, and a luscious afternoon of socialisation at the Grand Cafe at the V&A which is absolutely stunning. **Please note that there is no social before the tour, but only after.**
I will be giving a guided tour of the Italian artists to the members of LGBT Culture Lovers group, throughout this year in multiple parts. **There's no need to have attended previous sessions as I always recap.**
***In the third event of the series, we will be looking at the sculptures of quattrocento and cinquecento.*** Included are works by **Donatello, Andrea del Verrocchio**, **Michelangelo, Raphael**, & many others.
The tour will last around 60 minutes. **And here is the agenda:**

Highlights of Westminster with Blue Badge guide Laurence
Meet St James' Park Underground Station , Broadway exit opposite the Conrad Hotel
Meet @ 11-11.10
Fee £15
So you think you know Westminster? Think again!
How about those odd sculptures on the tube station? Or the juvenile prison? How about the bloke who is buried standing up? Or the man whose body was dug up from the Abbey? (Actually there are two!) Why is it called Big Ben and can we even see it?
Lots of questions and we can walk up a street named after a palace, see where a king was executed, find out why its called Downing Street and where Henry V111 had one of his many wine cellars.
What else..........................? Oh yes! We'll see where the original Royal Mews was(covered by a very famous London spot now), learn about the misnamed statue at Piccadilly and what was originally on the site of Leicester Square - yes i know you can Google it!!!
There's some other bits too but if you want to know , well ....just come along!
Please note that at traffic lights i will always wait for the green man signal- if there is one -and that at other crossings and on the streets generally attendees need to be vigilant.

Picturesque Friday walk. Highgate to Clapton.
This is an interesting walk and one of my most popular ones with lots of wildlife to see, and if you have not done this walk, it is well worth doing.
It is advisable to wear boots as some of the paths we are walking on can get muddy.
We will do the usual, stop for coffees, pubs and loos!, and there will be time given to take photographs.
We will meet at Highgate Station exit 2 at Priory Gardens, at 11.00 am,
at 11.05 am sharp we will start our walk to Finsbury Park {as image above} re designed and built during the early part of the second quarter of the 19th century.
Following developments in Paris as Londoners began to demand the creation of open spaces as an antidote to the ever-increasing urbanisation of London. Originally to be named Albert after guess who, the first plans were drawn up in 1850.
Renamed Finsbury Park, after the area where the 19th century benefactors who created it lived.
We will stop at the cafe in Finsbury Park, for a hot drink, after our hot drink, we will walk to Clissold Park Stoke Newington for lunch where there is a café there or you can bring your own sandwiches.
After lunch, we will walk through parts of Stoke Newington, and into Springfield Park, then crossing over the Lea Navigation, to Walthamstow Marshes ending up at the Princess of Wales Clapton, for a well earned drink.
Where you will able to get buses, to Dalston Overground Station, Old Street Underground station, and many other destinations.
Walking distance 7 miles approx.
If you walk slow, or have a knee problem this walk is not for you.
Meet up fee £7 {please have the right change}

Free Film and Theatre themed visit to the V&A with an Exhibition and Galleries
First, we will visit the exhibition Enthoven Unboxed: 100 Years of Collecting Performance. This exhibition marks 100 years since Gabrielle Enthoven founded the theatre and performance collection at the V&A, and the display explores an A–Z of themes to show how performance continues to entertain, provoke and inspire. There is a huge variety of items on display ranging from Elton John's glasses through modern concert posters through to late 19th century theatre themed artwork.
Next, we will walk through the museum to the Theatre and Performance Galleries. These galleries contain exciting theatre and performance collections, including rock and pop posters, theatre and ballet costumes, puppets, stage sets, Stars Wars costumes, and more.
We should expect to spend around 45 minutes at each of the two legs of the visit. If we finish early, there are numerous other galleries in the museum, and we can pick another one or two to visit depending on timings. I already have a note of what's on.
After the exhibition and galleries, the meetup ends, but it would be great if most if not all of us, stay for an entirely optional tea, drink, or snack in one of the many establishments in the area or the cafe at the V&A if that is still open. This will offer a great opportunity to relax and chat socially after what should be an interesting afternoon.
The exhibitions are free, but the usual £1.50 group maintenance fee applies and is non refundable. Please note that Meetup now adds about £0.60 to this as well. (If you pay cash on the day, it’s £2.50).
As always, you are participating at your own risk.
We would appreciate it if you changed your RSVP no more than 2 days before the event should you find you can no longer attend. No shows or cancellations on the day may result in you being removed from the group.
