Open practices can be attended by anyone, no matter your skill level. Everyone is welcome. Here's the lowdown: Arrive by 5:45. Get on the water by 6 Get back to the dock by 7 Everyone that gets in the boat must sign the waiver, which can be found on the club website. For payment, you have the option to pay the season membership or do the "pay as you go" option for $10 per practice. Both options can be paid in our Square store, which can also be found on our website. If you are doing the "pay as you go" option, please ensure that you have paid before you get in the boat. If you sign up to attend practice, please ensure that you show up. If you are no longer able to make it after you have signed up, please change your availability in Team Snap. Friday morning practices are a bit more chill than our usual practices. There is less coaching and more paddling to music. The coach will even take music requests to add to the playlist if you let him know at least the day before. The water conditions early in the morning are usually pretty calm, which adds to the zen like paddling as the sun comes up. We hope to see you all there!

Bring your lights for the “Friday Night” Skate! **Join us for the Friday Night Skate!** See the monuments of DC all lit up at night! We will meet at the National World War I Memorial “Pershing Park” at 7pm. We’ll warm up with a nice easy skate to the Capital and skate along the mall and museums to the National Monument. We will then head to the Lincoln Memorial through the World War II Memorial. Those interested in just a 5.5 mile skate can backtrack to Pershing Park. The group will then proceed from the Lincoln to Haynes Point via Ohio Drive with the option to take the 3 mile loop (12 mile total skate) or sit by the water and enjoy the crisp air (8.5 mile total skate.) There are three options to loop back to the Pershing Park WWI Memorial and our path back will depend on the preferences / skill of the group. The skate is mostly flat on good pavement with a small slope coming down from the Washington Monument and a 40 yard small slop from the Lincoln to Ohio Drive. If skaters are more advanced we will cross the 14th St bridge, enjoy a few up and down hills and finish with a downhill through the 12th St. tunnel. Please feel free to jazz it up with lights, I wear a helmet bike light, a fun set of lights and lighted wheels! Wear your lights so you have fun, can see and be seen! In case of bad weather, I will cancel the skate by 6pm on this post. **Of course, all skating is at your own risk.**

**Friday Night Board Games for 4-12 players (including me).** I have a dedicated gaming space in my home and can accommodate three tables of games being played at the same time. You are welcome to bring your own games to share and I own over 400 games (List here: [SynapticAcidGames](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AKPWooWXeftDMwsd4HY_2z2dTB6TyO_-_Xz98q77tv0/edit?usp=sharing)). *Please post in the event comments the game(s) you are interested in playing or planning to bring to share/play (and check the comments to see what others are bringing or are interested in playing too).* Doing so gives everyone an opportunity to choose what to play in advance (and learn how to play it if necessary). Attendees (players) will be sociable and respectful. I'll have a selection of light snacks and beverages available, but please feel free to bring snacks/drinks to share. Alcohol: If you're legally permitted, then you can, but keep it reasonable and light. There is no smoking or vaping on the property and if you have a pet allergy, please be advised that we have three dogs (two miniature poodles and a mini goldendoodle) in the home. Attendees should also be capable of walking down/up at least 15 stairs to enter/exit the game room. You may park along the street or in the driveway, but do not block access to the rightmost garage. **Attendance/Late/No-Show Policies:** * You must be registered to attend this event; walk-ins are not allowed. * The event start time is specific (not flexible) and you should plan to arrive at that time in order to be respectful of others. A 15 minute grace period for traffic or delays is generally afforded. * If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late be prepared that you may not be able to play until a game concludes and a new one starts (if there's time). In general, attendees should not be late. * If you are a no-show for an event (and you fail to timely communicate that you won't be attending), then you will be wait-listed at future events and allowed to attend only if space is still available after accommodating all others. * Most attendees stay for the duration of the event, but it is not required. **If you have any questions, please message me directly.**

Meet in the parking lot of the Handy Bikes Service Center. At the start of each ride, we'll go over introductions to have a sense of participants' cycling experience. Over the course of our rides, we'll address the following: group riding dynamics; safety (ABC check & trail hazards); gear shifting; hill climbing; audible and hand communication within the group, with other trail users, and automobile drivers; what to bring on each ride; etc... Bring your questions, water & a snack. When it starts getting dark earlier, we'll need lights as well. Helmets a MUST. If you can, and especially if you've had issues with your bike, come a bit early to have it looked at ahead of the ride. PS - all levels are welcome to join, however, be mindful that if you are an experienced rider, please be prepared to ride at the pace of the newest rider in the group. Each week, depending on who's in attendance, and participants' riding ability/comfort level, we may do skills practice as a group in the parking lot or at the west end of Wheeler Ave. Once everyone is comfortable, we'll go for a ride on local trails and neighborhood streets and finish back at the shop. All members of our meetup group are invited to kick off the sailing season at a fabulous party in Alexandria, Virginia! It will be a great place to socialize and learn about club sailing. It is a great opportunity for boat owners to find potential crewmates. The club will provide grilled meats and fish and numerous libations. If you wish to bring a salad, side dish or desert that would certainly be appreciated but is not required. (Please contact the host so that any side dished or salad offering can be coordinated.). We'll also run a short meeting, discuss possible membership dues and seek new officers to lead the club. (In the past, these officers have included: Commodore, Vice Commodore, Secretary, and Treasurer.) Address will be provided once you reserve for the party. The party will take place rain or shine.

The forecast has gotten too windy to trek down the Anacostia River on Sunday, so I've postponed that one by a week. Instead, let's head to the reliably sheltered reservoir put-in at Brown's Bridge. As I'm writing this on Wednesday, we're getting a good long rainstorm that should raise the Patuxent plenty to get us upstream. We will put in at Brown's Bridge, make a left and paddle about 1.7 miles upstream. After a short break, we'll head back the way we came. We will surely see plenty of birds, but might also catch a glimpse of Musky or Bucky along the way too! This is event is suitable for kayaks and canoes (but not inflatables). WSSC does not allow paddle boards on their reservoirs and has been getting more serious about enforcement. If you've got a seat attachment for your SUP and can paddle it sitting down, I *think* you're in the clear. As always, you must WEAR, not just carry your life jacket/PFD. **WSSC requires a watershed use permit.** Permits are $6.25 per day or $72 for the year. I heard that they increased the fine for not having one to $100. The schooner "Pride of Baltimore II" is coming to Old Town Alexandria this weekend! Let's park at Jones Point Park and walk up to the City Marina for a free deck tour! ❶ **What we'll do:** * From the old ship's rudder under Wilson Bridge we'll walk upstream about 2 miles along the Potomac shoreline to the City Marina, arriving about 2:00 PM. * Tickets aren't needed for the free deck tour of the schooner. * After the deck tour we will return to Jones Point Park along Union and Lee streets; about 1.2 miles. * Total distance is a little over 3 miles and the surface is flat and mostly paved. The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~20 per person. Soft drink refills are 1 each. Please support our hosts so we can continue to provide great events for the group! The Forge has a large library of games available for us to enjoy. Hosts and regulars will also provide numerous popular games but please bring any games you would like to teach and/or play. Doors open at 6, and we expect gaming to be rolling by around 630. Please promptly end your games and clear out the space at 10pm when the bar closes. We encourage socializing but do not permit disruptive behavior of any kind. Thank you for your continued commitment to providing a fun and welcoming space to veteran, newbie, and rookie gamers in the Columbus area. Parking can sometimes fill esrly. There is additional parking lot behind the neighboring Mexican restaurant that is free and easy to walk from but it's a bit hidden.
