Shut Up & Write!ยฎ LONDON / PECKHAM
Shut Up & Write!ยฎ LONDON / PECKHAM
**UPDATE FOR FEB-APRIL 2026:** For February - end of April 2026 the host of this event will be away. It will still be happening every week, but will be a self-running group. If you are a regular - please welcome any newcomers and be prepared to set the 1 hour timer. If you are a newcomer, the group is usually easy to find (the table/s with notebooks and laptops), and the bar staff know where we are if you can't spot us first time. Happy writing! **\~** Join us for an hour of writing! Weโ€™ve discovered that itโ€™s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itโ€™s true for you at 18:00 on Wednesday afternoons/evenings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 18:00 - Quick introductions 18:15 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour 19:15 - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 19:30. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at the Peckham Pelican! What Should I Bring? Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafeโ€™s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons. **Other Important Details:** \- If you arrive and can't figure out who we are \(usually the table with a lot of laptops and notebooks\)\, feel free to ask the bar staff who will point you in the right direction\. \- Many of our participants found the event through other means\, so please don't be put off by a low attendance number on MeetUp\! \- The Pelican has some\, but not many\, charging points\, so make sure laptops are charged and perhaps bring a notebook just in case\. \- The WiFi is also very poor \(non\-existent\)\, but most have found that to be a good thing\. Make sure to download or turn on 'offline mode' if working on a computer\. \- Please thank our hosts by purchasing something \(The pizzas are fantastic\, and we write during happy hour \- two for one on cocktails\!\)

Relatively Speaking by Alan Ayckbourn.
โ€œRelatively Speaking established Ayckbourn as a writer of ingenious farcical comedy, with an ear for dialogue, a penchant for complex situations, misunderstandings and intriguing plots. Expect a masterful yarn of mistaken identity leading to comic chaos. The dialogue crackles and sparkles providing us with prolonged moments of pure joy and sublime hilarityโ€. Please join us for an entertaining evening. We will meet in the bar area upstairs at around 7.15pm. Writing for and with AI
Writing for and with AI
๐Ÿค– **AI is changing the way we work, how do tech writers adopt and adapt to these changes?** At this month's event, our colleagues at Checkout.com will explore both sides of the coin: writing *for* AI, and writing *with* it. First, **[Charlie Wildish](https://www.linkedin.com/in/charlie-wildish/)** (Staff Product Manager) and **[Preethy Sundaresan](https://www.linkedin.com/in/preethy-sundaresan-884543103/)** (Sr. Technical Writer) will walk us through content strategy for AI chatbots. Getting a chatbot right starts with defining how it speaks and what it knows, they'll break down how to build that foundation and the long-term plan needed to help the bot scale successfully. Then, **[Sebastian Garcia Cardona](https://www.linkedin.com/in/sebastian-garcia-cardona/)** (Staff Technical Writer) will address the noise about AI replacing writers. For most of us, the reality is about finding a better way to work with AI. In this session, weโ€™ll share how we use these tools to speed up parts of daily workflows without losing the nuance that tech writing requires. **๐Ÿ—’๏ธ Agenda** **When:** Thursday 16 April, from 6.30pm **Where:** Wenlock Works, Shepherdess Walk, London N1 7BQ **What:** **18.30 - 19.00** Arrival **19.00 - 19.10** Welcome & Housekeeping **19.10 - 19.40** Session 1: Content strategy for AI chatbot **19.40 - 20.00** Break **20.00 - 20.30** Session 2: AI as a writing assistant **20.30 - 21.00** Closing and networking *All times are approximate.* **๐Ÿ“ How to find us:** Enter the Wenlock Works building, and sign in at the front desk with the name configured in your [Meetup account](https://www.meetup.com/account/) (which is used in your RSVP to this event). They will direct you to the right floor, after which you'll see signs and friendly organizers. **๐Ÿ“ธ Photos:** Note that the organizers will take some photos for the WTD group.

Contra dance with Big Scioty May 2 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
**Caller: Richard Ades** **Band: The McKenzies** **Clinton Heights Lutheran Church** **15 Clinton Heights Ave, Columbus, OH 43202** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like youโ€™ve seen in period films such as โ€œPride and Prejudiceโ€, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. Thatโ€™s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like โ€œswing your partnerโ€ and โ€œdo-si-do,โ€ like youโ€™ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alรก โ€œRiverdance.โ€ Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THATโ€™s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/) Please bring your own refillable water bottle.
