Hiking Seneca Creek (Without The Witches)
Hiking Seneca Creek (Without The Witches)
The 6,300-acre Seneca Creek State Park, conveniently located in nearby Montgomery County, MD, may be most famous (or infamous) as the site of the filming of the mega-sleeper hit movie of the 90s, *The Blair Witch Project.* When the curious are not attempting to find other-worldly creatures in the dark, the Park's central features are Clopper Lake and the eponymous Seneca Creek. Our moderate 6-mile loop will feature views of both the lake and the stream, as well as a restored 19th-century cabin and the archeological remains of the Clopper estate. The park also has a peonies garden, which we will check out to see if they are in bloom. Cumulative elevation gain will be 600 feet. Bring water, lunch, bug spray, sunscreen, mud-worthy boots, $5 for trip fees, and $3 to reimburse your carpool driver. We will carpool at 10 a.m. from the Kiss & Ride section of the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station. For those interested, we will stop at a watering hole before returning back to Grosvenor. Please note: We will NOT be making a pit stop en route because of the very short drive, so be sure to pack your lunch with you. Though we plan to be home long before the witching hour, take extra care to sign the Adventuring release form if you intend to linger in the Park after dark. **NOTE:** Please [click here](https://adventuringlgbtq.com/Adventuring_Release_Form.pdf) to review our release form. When you **RSVP** to an event, you affirm that you have read and agree to the terms of the release.

GPS Is not very accurate as we are under the bridge. You can put in 3500 Water Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20007; just be aware of where the GPS is taking you. Metro The best way to get there is via metro. They are just a short 10 - 15 minute walk across the Key Bridge from the Roslyn stop. Parking Key Bridge Boathouse has very limited parking available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is street parking in the area; however, you may need to circle around a few times to find a spot. Some spots are free, most are metered. A few blocks to the east on Water Street (next to the Lowes Theatre) is a parking garage. Biking There are bike racks at the boathouse, so we encourage you to bike, paddle and bike some more! Please bring your own locks. We are very close to the Capital Crescent Trail. What to Wear and Bring Water, sunscreen, clothes you don't mind getting a li'l wet, and a great attitude! http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/b/7/e/600_438679326.jpeg Payment Instructions : 1. The Arlington Loop, with Gravelly Point and Washington Sailing Marina
The Arlington Loop, with Gravelly Point and Washington Sailing Marina
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/54518186 18.5 miles. Picnic at Washington Sailing Marina (approx. 11 miles). Bathroom/port-a-potty at beginning middle and end. This ride is a variation on the classic and well-traveled Arlington Loop, starting at Bluemont Park and riding clockwise. We will ride first on the W&OD trail and then make our way to the the Custis and Mount Vernon Trails along the Potomac River and past Reagan National Airport. We'll stop at Gravelly Point to watch a few take offs and landings, then lunch at Washington Sailing Marina. We get on the Four Mile Run Trail (not previously included in E-Bike Lovers rides) and then back to the W&OD trail and the start. We will pass Theodore Roosevelt Island (feel free to park your bike and walk the causeway; no bikes allowed.) There will also be ample DC skyline views. A highlight will be a stop at Gravelly Point, which affords a close-up view of planes landing at National Airport. We lunch at the Washington Sailing Marina, which features a marine convenience store with snacks and soft drinks and pizza. We'll also pass by the Weenie Beanie half smoke/hot dog stand -- an Arlington institution. The meeting place is Bluemont Park. There are multiple parking areas, so do not be fooled. We will meet at the parking area at 325 N Manchester St Arlington, VA 22203. (This is actually the address of the house directly next to the entrance to this parking lot.) Use the pin in the Location Map. Bring plenty of water and snacks or lunch. Don’t forget your bike lock if you plan to stop along the way! The group stops a few times (certainly before tricky turns) for slower riders to catch up. **Please charge your battery, pump your tires, and check your breaks. The ride is on paved trail and asphalt roads, but there are a few hilly segments. As usual, analog bike riders are most welcome.** We highly recommend that you dowbload the Ride With GPS route map. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/54518186 For the E-Bike Lovers group to be successful, we need to grow our membership carefully.
