Cinema - THE BRIDGE
Cinema - THE BRIDGE
Location: Curzon Cinema, Dockray Place, Camden London NW1 8QD Time: 18:10 - Screen N10 Cost: £2 meetup fee + **please book your own cinema ticket** I have booked Screen N10 - Seat C6 When a woman is found murdered in the middle of Oresund Bridge on the border between Sweden and Denmark, Swedish detective Saga Noren and Martin Rohde from the Copenhagen police department are called to the scene. And what they find is shocking: It's not one murder, but two, as the bodies have been brutally cut off at the waist and joined together, the torso of a high-profile Swedish politician and the lower body of a Danish prostitute. The detectives realise they are dealing with a ruthless killer who has been planning his crimes for many years, and the Swedish and Danish police must work together to bring a madman to justice. We can decide whether to go for a coffee or pint afterwards!

Cinema: A Private Life (2025) - French with subtitles
Cinema: A Private Life (2025) - French with subtitles
Jodie Foster speaks fluent French. In this film she speaks both French and English so it's great that this film at the Ciné Lumiere cinema at the Institut Français is shown in French with English subtitles. I am excited to see this! I studied French for a while so I hope I'll understand a little bit. Book your own ticket (standard £14, concs £12): [https://www.institut-francais.org.uk/cinema/a-private-life-2/#/](https://www.institut-francais.org.uk/cinema/a-private-life-2/#/) "When sophisticated psychiatrist Lilian Steiner (Jodie Foster) learns of the death of one of her patients, she is deeply troubled. Convinced it was murder, she sets out on an investigation that takes her across France. Rebecca Zlotowski’s latest film (*Grand Central*, *An Easy Girl*) combines the tension of a thriller with a sharp reflection on the place of psychoanalysis in today’s world. Jodie Foster brings depth and brilliance to Lilian in her first major French-language role in more than two decades." This was called a black comedy mystery thriller film ... with particular praise for Foster's performance, which earned her nominations for the César Award, and Lumière Award for Best Actress, becoming the first American to receive nominations in these categories in respective ceremonies. Screen Rant: "What begins as an off-kilter character portrait of a prickly intellectual comfortably slides into a murder mystery investigated by an amateur sleuth with a personal life more chaotic than the lives of the people she treats." Sony Pics Classics/YT: "A frisky, feminine, film noir about psychoanalysis and many other things…" Let's go for a drink afterwards to chat about the film.

Samba and Brazilian culture: special women's day
Samba de Bamba is a Brazilian samba group that meets once a month to celebrate samba, Brazilian culture, and heritage. We believe that joy is also a political act of resistance, healing, solidarity, subversion, and well-being. Therefore, on International Women's Day, we prepared a space for everyone to celebrate and remember that our struggle is also carried out with joy. FREE GUIDED TOUR: Italian Artists - Part III: Sculpture + Social
Gentle people, It is my pleasure to invite you to Part III of Italian artists at the V&A, and a luscious afternoon of socialisation at the Grand Cafe at the V&A which is absolutely stunning. **Please note that there is no social before the tour, but only after.** I will be giving a guided tour of the Italian artists to the members of LGBT Culture Lovers group, throughout this year in multiple parts. **There's no need to have attended previous sessions as I always recap.** ***In the third event of the series, we will be looking at the sculptures of quattrocento and cinquecento.*** Included are works by **Donatello, Andrea del Verrocchio**, **Michelangelo, Raphael**, & many others. The tour will last around 60 minutes. **And here is the agenda:** * 1:45pm: Meet at the Italian style entrance on Cromwell Gardens (not the brutalist one on Exhibition Road). We will wait for 15 minutes. * 2pm: The tour starts right on the dot. * 3pm: Social at the V&A Grand Cafe! (appreciate a drink😜) I really encourage you to watch the two short videos in the further resources section, if you can. I hope to see there. J x **Further Resources** [Donatello's marble carving technique](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dn8F06y5mc)*,* V&A, video. [Donatello's clay modelling technique](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcoRoP3Abt8), V&A, video. *Due to the high demand of these tours, and the amount of preparation it takes, those with poor or problematic attendance will be moved to the waiting list, to give the space to more committed members.*

Contra dance with Big Scioty on March 7 - First Congregational Church
Contra dance with Big Scioty on March 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Frank Buschelmann** **Band: The Rosenthorns** **Big Scioty Contra Dance** **temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/) Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
