Come along on Saturday 4th April for a visit to the Fashion & Textile Museum. **About the Museum** The Fashion and Textile Museum was founded in 2003 by fashion designer [Zandra Rhodes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zandra_Rhodes "Zandra Rhodes"). It is the only museum in the UK dedicated to showcasing contemporary fashion and textile design. It was re-inaugurated in 2008, as part of Newham College, and hosts a programme of changing exhibitions exploring fashion, style and couture, as well as hands-on workshops and masterclasses. The building the museum sits in has become a tourist attraction due to its colour scheme of hot pink, burnt orange, yellow, and bright blue. We will walk through the park to arrive at Cambridge Heath to see The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, which is a tiny museum showcasing a unique collection of objects, including unusual taxidermy & occult artwork. * We will then make our way to see the Young V&A museum (free entry), formerly known as Museum of Childhood, which is a branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum. * This is where the walk ends. Come along on Sunday 5th April at 1:30pm for a guided walk around Kennington on the early life of the comic genius; Charlie Chaplin! I'm a massive fan of Charlie Chaplin, so I'll be the guide for the walk. **About the walk** Charlie Chaplin was British and kept British citizenship all his life, even though he spent most of his adult life in America. He was born in Kennington, London on the 16th April 1889 and lived their until he was 21. He was born into and spent his early years in great poverty in (at the time) one of the poorest areas of London. As a teenager he joined a performing group in nearby Brixton and during a tour of the U.S was spotted performing by a scout for Sennett Studios, they signed him up and the rest is history! He went on to star in 81 films mainly during the silent era and playing his 'Little Tramp' character in 76 of them. His life is a classic rags to riches story and in his films he was heavily influenced by his poor upbringing. I will guide you round the streets telling his story, visiting various places that influenced him, the houses where he lived as a child and describing the conditions of the area in late Victorian London. I will tell you the story of his relationships with his mentally ill mother, alcoholic father and the close bond he had with his half brother Sydney. Plus I will also talk about his stage understudy who also went onto become a world famous movie comedian. You don't need to be a fan of Chaplin, just like a good story! **Start climbing into a positive space.** We are back on Sunday 5th April for our London peer-to-peer support session. Facilitated by our lovely volunteers, we will be meeting in the cafe area of Rise Climbing by 12.30pm. Join me for a beautiful and relaxed walk along the Thames path in North Greenwich through the Woolwich foottunel to Royal Docks. This is a 7 mile walk with a number off interesting stops on the way. The meeting point is North Greenwich station. Please exit towards the O2 and look around for me at arrival by the entrance. From there, we will first explore some of the **artwork** around North Greenwich and than have a first stop at the [**Ecology Park**](https://www.tcv.org.uk/greenwichpeninsula/). It promises interesting wildlife and surroundings. We will continue the walk to the [**Thames barriers visiting centre**](https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-thames-barrier) where we can see and hear how the Barriers are functioning. Tickets cost £6 but I think it will be worth it. From there we will make our way to the **Woolwich foottunnel**. We will go through the tunnel and than make our way through Silvertown into the **Thames Barrier park**. The park provides amazing views of the Thames Barriers and it is a brilliant photo spot. We will than make our way to a foot bridged that gives us a view of **City Airport**. We will take in the views and perhaps watch some planes taking off. The last stop then is the **Oilerbar** where we will end the walk with a drink. **As always, we will walk slowly but there are several stairs involved and you have to be fit enough to attend therefore.** The event is free (unless you decide to visit the Thames Barrier centre) but the usual £1.50 will apply and is not refundable. Meet-up will also charge you about £0.60 on top of that. As usual, you are attending at your own risk.
