Gas Food Lodging is a coming-of-age-tale about a couple of sisters growing up in a small town in New Mexico together with their single mum, tackling life and heartaches. It has the same early 90s desert spirit as My Own Private Idaho, it looks lovely to boot and boasts a soundtrack by Dinosaur Jr's J. Mascis and a cast that includes Ione Sky (from Say Anything), Fairuza Balk (from The Craft), Brooke Adams (from Days of Heaven) and Chris Mulkey (Hank from Twin Peaks!). This was directed by Allison Anders, who came through Sundance at the same time as Quentin Tarantino and who will also be doing a Q&A in person for this, a 35mm screening. The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human.
