AWS London Well-Architected User Group April Meetup!
Hi Architects,
Welcome to our the third AWS London Well-Architected User Group Meetup!!! š„³š„³š„³
Our third meetup will take on a Security Theme.
Dragon Hall Trust, 17 Stukeley Street, London WC2B 5LT
The AWS London Well-Architected Meetup is the latest chapter in the most popular AWS Meetup group globally.
At each meetup we cover off various pillars of AWS best-practice in detail including insights from industry leaders that specialise in the Well-Architected Framework.
**Speakers**
* "Detection Engineering on a Budget" - Tom O'Connor - Senior Content Engineer @ Try Hack Me
* "Ransomware protection with immutable AWS backup ... it's complicated" - Paul Schwarzenberger - Cloud Security Engineer & Kurtis Mash - Lead Technical Architect from The National Archives (UK)
**Detection Engineering on a Budget**
AWS's Well-Architected Security Pillar tells you what to detect. It doesn't tell you how to do it without a SIEM contract and a six-figure budget. This talk covers building a credible detection engineering capability on AWS using native tooling, a bit of open source, and no enterprise spend.
**Ransomware protection with immutable AWS backup ... it's complicated**
Youāll hear how The National Archives used AWS Backup to implement centralised, immutable backups of critical data, to protect against ransomware attacks. Youāll see a live demo of the solution, and learn how you can use their open-source Terraform module for your own organisationās backup and compliance needs.
So come join us at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start, including drinks, snacks and friendly networking after our talks :-)
\*\*\*NB: No entry to the building after 7.00pm.\*\*\*
London Indoor Bouldering Evening
Join OutdoorLads popular weekly Thursday Bouldering evening at The Arch in Bermondsey.
OutdoorLads London boulderers welcome all members of the LGBTQ+ community You'll be meeting with a supportive group of 5 to 10 plus boulderers who are always happy to introduce complete beginners or solve difficult bouldering problems with enthusiasts. We usually follow up with a pub visit.
This event is for members of all levels of experience and all are welcome to come along to any of the sessions.
Bouldering is a form of climbing where instead of long high routes, the 'problems', as they are referred to, tend to be shorter and focus on technique, balance, body positioning and sometimes power. Because of this different emphasis, bouldering doesn't have the hassle of climbing with ropes, harnesses and belaying, which makes the activities excellent for newcomers to the sport.
If you're a seasoned climber you won't need convincing about the benefits of bouldering, but for those who've never climbed more than a staircase, the benefits are wide ranging: from the physical - improved strength, tone, balance, power and coordination; mental - problem solving, focus, concentration and body awareness; to the emotional - relaxation, a sense of achievement and a feeling that mind and body are working together perfectly ('feeling psyched'). On top of all this, bouldering tends to be a very social sport where you can hang out with mates and each have a go as you feel regardless of what level you climb at.

š **About Your Host - Matt**
I work as a doctor in A&E and Iāve always found that time spent outdoors helps me recharge, especially with the pressures of city life and work. I grew up in rural Devon and have spent thousands of hours immersed in nature - and I love showing others how even a short walk can shift your mindset, boost your mood, and help you feel more present.
No need to be a wildlife expert ā Iāll point out birds and other wildlife along the way, and youāll leave with a few simple tips to help you enjoy your own walks even more in future.
This is a welcoming group ā whether you come solo or with a friend ā and a great way to combine light exercise, real conversation, and a bit of calm in your week.
**Hope to see you there!**
Matt
