CONTINUUM • Opening Night Reception, Friday February 6 • 6-8 pm at Long View. Long View has long been one of the largest and coolest galleries in the city. For a while they were quiet but they seem to have revved it up again. This will be a nice informal outing on a Friday evening. About the Artists & Exhibition / Chris Zidek & Nathan Brown Continuum explores abstraction as a state of constant transition. Working across sculpture and painting, Chris Zidek and Nathan Brown investigate how form, material, and perception shift over time through systems of structure, repetition, and change. Zidek’s sculptural works combine layered wood, mirrored surfaces, and automotive paint to create reflective objects that shift with light and movement. The sculptures engage the surrounding space and the viewer, emphasizing change, repetition, and visual flux. Brown’s acrylic paintings use geometric abstraction and subtle gradients to construct rhythmic compositions and continual growth. Through precise layering and color transitions, his work suggests motion and dimension within controlled systems, balancing clarity with softness. Together, the works in Continuum propose abstraction as a process of becoming, where form, material, and perception exist along an unbroken line of transformation.

We will have open shop hours for anyone to bring their bikes to work on or need help fixing your own bike. We will also have bikes that need to be fixed so you can learn if you like. We will need everyone to sign in when arriving and sign out when leaving so we can keep track of volunteer hours and shop times. Suggested donation of $15 per hour for use of tools and space would be appreciated. Thank you!

Let us meet up for a language exchange. We will give out name tags. You write your name and what language you speak and what language you would like to exchange. ***GRAB A DRINK AND YOU ARE ALL SET TO FLEX YOUR LANGUAGE CAPACITY. YOU NEED TO GET AT LEAST A DRINK OR FOOD :) To get the event going and show support. We know that you like our events. P.S. : We have non-alcoholic drinks as well.*** We have a tiny venue and we hit capacity often and early arrival is suggested. We have the discretion to decide entry. All languages are welcome! However we don't guarantee the availability of a partner in that particular language, you would like to exchange. Biology-Inspired Neural Networks with Multi-Directional Propagation
Title: Biology-Inspired Neural Networks with Multi-Directional Propagation of Values and Distributions Date: Feb 8 2026 10:00 am - Noon EST Summary: While biological axons can propagate in both directions, current ANNs are focused on unidirectional propagation. Also usually they only propagate values, while uncertainty is shown also crucial for making decisions of biological organisms - suggesting to propagate also variance, probability distributions. I will talk about novel KAN-like approach to ANNs repairing these lack by using neurons containing inexpensive local joint distribution model as polynomial, allowing to freely change propagation direction by just switching indexes, also propagate entire probability distributions represented by vectors of moments. Beside backpropagation, it also allows many additional training approaches, like direct estimation, tensor decomposition, and through information bottleneck. Speaker: Dr Jarek Duda is an assistant professor at Jagiellonian University. He holds degrees in computer science (PhD), mathematics (MSc) and physics (PhD). He is mainly focused on physics foundations, information theory, statistical analysis, and is known for introduction of asymmetric numeral systems. Please join us on **Sunday, February 8, 2026** at **10 AM** at The Roost on Capitol Hill located at **1401 Pennsylvania Ave SE, Washington, DC 20003**. The Roost is a 2-minute walk from the Potomac Avenue Metro Station (Blue / Orange / Silver). If you live nearby, you can reach this destination by bicycle in 5-10 minutes. The neighborhood near The Roost has free two-hour street parking. **We will meet in the seating area located behind the bar called "Show of Hands"** (it is located to your left when you enter through the front doors). Table signs will be placed on the tables so that you can easily find us. We encourage you to order coffee or brunch while you enjoy chit chatting with other Chinese speakers and learners.
