London Society TALK - Deep conversations
Have you ever wanted to gather together and talk about insightful topics which broadens your thinking and knowledge? If so, this may be the right event for you.
Welcome to the ‘Deep conversations’ event where you get the opportunity to share your views based on the topics that we may cover.
With this particular event, the topics we’ll discuss are:
* Wealth vs freedom
* Chinese zodiac and symbolism
* The power of reminiscence and memory
* Eastern tradition vs western tradition
* Education vs the system
* Was there someone special in your life whom you miss and if so, why?
We get so preoccupied with daily life that we hardly have a chance to sit back and think as well as discuss many topics in such depth. When was the last time you sat back and thought about anything in depth which opened your eyes to so many possibilities and broadened your thinking?
Now is your chance to share your views and learn from one another. By participating in this, you could broaden your ways of thinking, learn new lessons or even heal if you have your hidden struggles.
You don’t have to but if you enjoyed the event and if you want, I’m more than happy to accept optional donations. Even if you donate £1, it helps not only myself but you guys too by unlocking pathways for even more potential events and resources: https://www.paypal.me/calvinjoy

In Person: CoffeeOps
We are back! This is going to be a monthly IN PERSON meet up in London.
A very big thank you goes to Accurx who is hosting us in their amazing Shoreditch offices. This will include access to facilities including coffee! 😻☕️
**Want to know more? 👇**
As with all CoffeeOps, this is an interactive, chatty, build your own adventure type of meet-up. Instead of booking in experts to *learn* *from*, we gather a group of practitioners to ***learn*** ***with***. We have been running for over 4 years now and often get feedback that this is the most useful meetup people join!
The event is approximately 90 minutes and always starts by brainstorming topics to discuss. The group then votes on the most relevant/interesting to them and we then cycle through the topics trying to discuss each deeply, but in a time bound slot.
To get an idea of topics, you can check out our remote board [here](https://easyretro.io/publicboard/h404NF84Uje4tCcxpJdHr4Ycs9B3/a4a35d2b-181b-409b-832e-a729be1af79c). The general gist is anything is fair game, though we tend to revolve around software delivery and definitely lean towards the more Ops-y or DevOps-y side of things.
The Badminton Collective Stratford Club Night Training and Games
The session is Every Thursday 7PM till 8PM.
This is for all levels, so after the training you will be able to play games and use what you have learnt.
Just like the saying practice makes perfect.
Any queries on what levels you may be or just any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

* Begin walk at 11:10am
* Walk will end around 13:00pm back at the Footpath off Norman Road, opposite Morgan Pub

**👋 About Your Host – Matt**
I work as a doctor in A&E and I’ve always found that time spent outdoors helps me recharge, especially with the pressures of city life and work. I grew up in rural Devon and have spent thousands of hours immersed in nature — and I love showing others how even a short walk in the city can shift your mindset, boost your mood, and help you feel more present.
No need to be a wildlife expert — I’ll point out birds and other wildlife along the way, and you’ll leave with a few simple tips to help you enjoy your own walks even more in future.
This is a welcoming group — whether you come solo or with a friend — and a great way to combine light exercise, real conversation, and a bit of calm in your week.
Hope to see you there!
– Matt

You’ll see fluffy newborn pups, playful young seals, and giant males lounging on the sand. 🐾 Volunteers will be nearby to answer questions and help ensure everyone enjoys this special wildlife experience safely.

Krishnamurti Inspired Sunday Dialogue
**Here we meet up outside of the restaurant setting, in a beautiful room at the Tibetan Buddhist Centre in London. The quiet venue is helpful for perhaps a greater deep dive and attention to our topic.**
Together we shall be exploring some of the themes that Krishnamurti is proposing but, more importantly, that we ourselves are facing in our everyday life.
Krishnamurti is showing us what he sees about human conditioning and the lack or freedom and love that dominates existence.
Our inquiry is to see this conditioning for ourselves and to bring about fundamental change.
### **Dialogue Dates For 2026**
* Sunday 11th January
* Sunday 8th February
* Sunday 8th March
* Sunday 12th April
* Sunday 10th May
* Sunday date in June awaiting confirmation
* SORRY THE CENTRE IS CLOSED DURING JULY & AUGUST
* Sunday 13th September
* Sunday 11th October
* Sunday 8th November
* Sunday 13th December
**The Dialogue**
As we sit together and exchange on these unresolved topics of life, we will be confronted with the living limitations of our relationships in the group.
What is real listening to each other or is my listening and attention already conditioned? What is real inquiry and can we think together during our dialogue?
### **Refreshments**
Do come early and have a cup of tea with friends here at the Tibetan Buddhist Cafe on the premises.
You can also go and sit in the little garden outside or relax in the lovely library for more private informal dialogues between participants.
I will be present at the premises cafe for pre dialogue get togethers: (please contact me if you want me to be there at a specific time...)
### **Contribution Price for the Dialogue**
There will be a cost of £10 per dialogue per person to cover the hiring of the room, thank you

T is for…Thirst: In Search of Freshwater 🌊
_Thousands have lived without love, not one without water._ - W.H. Auden
Join us on **Sunday 11th January** at ***[Thirst: In Search Of Freshwater](https://wellcomecollection.org/exhibitions/thirst-in-search-of-freshwater)***, a **FREE** exhibition at the Wellcome Collection on Euston Road.
*Thirst* explores humanity’s ancient, urgent and intimate relationship with freshwater.
With only 3% of the world’s water being freshwater, this exhibition dives into how our bodies, communities and ecosystems depend on this precious resource, and what happens when we mismanage it.
Travelling from ancient Mesopotamia to Victorian London, and from Nepal to Singapore, Thirst brings together 125 fascinating objects, including historical artefacts, contemporary materials, environmental data, and artworks.
Expect:
💧 Exquisite medieval water-filtering vessels carved with animals and inscribed with words of wisdom
💧 A Mesopotamian wedding blanket whose floral patterns reappear in a modern wastewater garden design
💧 Atmospheric photographs and films revealing communities’ relationships with water
💧 Striking large-scale models showing the impact of groundwater depletion in global megacities
Immerse yourself in a sweeping story of culture, climate, health and survival, and our shared future.

**🌟 Event Overview**
We’re heading to the beautiful beaches of Norfolk to witness one of nature’s most heartwarming sights — hundreds of adorable baby seals! 🦭💙
Every winter, between November and February, the beaches between Horsey and Winterton become home to more than 5,000 Atlantic grey seals, making Norfolk one of the best and largest seal-viewing spots in the world.
You’ll see fluffy newborn pups, playful young seals, and giant males lounging on the sand. 🐾 Volunteers will be nearby to answer questions and help ensure everyone enjoys this special wildlife experience safely.
After our gentle 6–7 mile easy coastal walk, we’ll head to a local country pub at 4:00 PM for a well-deserved late lunch and a chance to relax, chat, and share photos before heading back to London. 🍻🥧
\-\-\-
***📸 What to Expect***
**✨ Up-close (but respectful!) encounters with baby seals. Close Encounters not always possible. For health and safety reasons. Keep minimum distance of 10 meters for safety reasons.**
**🏖️ A scenic beach and dune walk through the Broads National Nature Reserve.**
**🌾 Stunning coastal views and charming nearby villages.**
**🌤️ A relaxed, friendly group atmosphere with nature lovers like you.**
**\-\-\-**
***🦭 A Little History & Fun Facts***
The Atlantic grey seals of Norfolk are one of the largest breeding colonies in England. Each year, female seals return to the same beaches to give birth — and the pups, born with white fur, stay close to their mothers for about three weeks before heading into the sea.
In recent years, conservation efforts have helped the population thrive, turning this quiet stretch of coast into one of Britain’s most treasured wildlife spectacles. 🌍💚

Solopreneurs Drinking Coffee — First Event
First attempt at this. If it's good, we'll do it again. If it sucks, we tried.
(Event photo is from a recent trip to Flagstaff. Stock photos of fake people drinking coffee are the worst.)
**Why I'm doing this:**
You're the average of the people you spend the most time with. Running a business solo means I've been spending most of my time with myself. And AI tools, which are great for thinking through business problems, but terrible for actual human connection.
I want to raise that average. Looking for people who want real conversations. Not networking, not pitches, just the kind of talk that makes you think differently about what you're building and why.
If we all end up making a few friends along the way, even better.
**What to expect:**
Coffee. Conversation. No pitches, no elevator speeches, no going around the table introducing ourselves like it's a corporate icebreaker.
Just show up and talk like a normal human.
**Ground rules:**
* No pitching your business
* No recruiting
* No MLM talk
* No hustle porn
**RSVP cap:** 6 people max so it doesn't turn into a crowd.
**Location:** Transcend Coffee & Roastery in Grove City
**Time:** Friday, January 16th at 11 AM.
See you there!
Wild Ones: Annual Native Seed Swap
Wild Ones: Annual Native Seed Swap
January 10, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Join Wild Ones Columbus for their annual native seeds swap. If you have native seeds to share, please label them with the Latin name and common name. The seeds don’t need to be removed from the seed head if you aren’t sure how to do it, but remove as much stem as possible.
Bringing seeds is not required. Bring bags or envelopes to store seeds.
Inniswood Metro Gardens
940 S. Hempstead Rd.
Westerville, OH 43081
Phone (614)895-6216
This event will be held in the Greenhouse/Multipurpose Building located near the east end of the parking lot. Click here to see the Inniswood map.
If you have native seeds to share, label each species with this information:
* Botanical Name
* Common Name
Species we will accept:
* Species native to our ecoregion (8.2.4) - Best
* Species native to Ohio and surrounding states - Good
* Straight species only - no cultivars.
The seeds don’t need to be removed from the seed head if you aren’t sure how to do it, but don’t leave much stem on the seed heads.
Please email the list of species to Mary May so we can prepare information for attendees. You can bring the seeds on the day of the swap, or we can arrange to have them picked up beforehand - just let her know in the email.
If you don’t have any seeds to bring, no worries. If you are new to native plants or didn't have time to collect seeds, there are ALWAYS plenty from those that do bring them! We love to see "newbies" at our seed exchange! Also, remember to bring something to put seeds in such as envelopes, paper bags or containers.

Trails & Ales! Blacklick Woods Metro Park / Prost Beer & Wine Café
**History**
[Blacklick Woods Metro Park](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/blacklick-woods/), established in 1949, holds the distinction of being the first Columbus Metro Park. Its creation stemmed from a post-World War II push to preserve natural areas amid rapid suburban growth. The land, originally farmland and woodlots along Blacklick Creek, was acquired by the Columbus Metropolitan Park Board through donations and purchases. Early efforts focused on basic trail development and reforestation to combat erosion. The park's name derives from the creek, which early settlers called "Black Lick" due to its dark, mineral-rich waters. By the 1950s, it served as a model for the expanding Metro Parks system.
In the 1960s, Blacklick Woods expanded significantly with additional land acquisitions, reaching over 600 acres. A golf course was added in 1964, one of the first public courses in the region, designed to generate revenue for park maintenance. Native American artifacts, including arrowheads from the Adena culture, were discovered during construction, highlighting the area's prehistoric use as hunting grounds. The park introduced interpretive programs to educate visitors on local ecology and history. Flood control measures along the creek became a priority after heavy rains caused damage. These developments solidified its role as a recreational hub.
The 1970s and 1980s brought environmental awareness, leading to habitat restoration projects at Blacklick Woods. Invasive species were removed, and native wildflowers were planted in the meadows. A nature center opened in 1976, featuring exhibits on wetlands and forests. The park's slate-covered bridge, a remnant of 19th-century infrastructure, was preserved as a historic feature. Birdwatching gained popularity with the addition of observation decks. Community volunteers played a key role in trail maintenance and cleanups.
During the 1990s, Blacklick Woods underwent major upgrades, including paved multi-use trails for biking and hiking. The Walter A. Tucker Nature Preserve, a 53-acre old-growth forest within the park, was dedicated in 1995 to protect rare beech-maple woodlands. Educational partnerships with local schools introduced field trips on topics like stream ecology. The golf course was renovated to improve playability while minimizing environmental impact. Annual events, such as the fall festival, drew thousands to celebrate the park's natural beauty. These enhancements balanced recreation with conservation.
In the 21st century, Blacklick Woods has adapted to increasing visitation with sustainable practices. Solar panels were installed at facilities in the 2010s to reduce energy costs. The park now spans 643 acres, offering diverse habitats from wetlands to uplands. Recent initiatives include pollinator gardens and prescribed burns to maintain prairie areas. It remains a flagship for the Metro Parks, inspiring similar preservations system-wide. Ongoing archaeological surveys continue to uncover traces of early inhabitants.
**Map of the Park**
Here is a [map of Blacklick Woods](https://www.metroparks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/BLK-map-May-2025-with-extended-greenway_1980px.jpg).
**Summary**
For this event, we will hike about 4.5 miles by doing a couple loops of the Buttonbush, Tucker, Maple Loop, and Beech trails. Blacklick Woods is a very nice park, but it is generally flat and not strenuous, so this will be one of the easier hikes that we do.
**Where We'll Meet**
Drive all the way to the back of the park to the parking lot that is nearest the Nature Center. There are restrooms here next to the Canopy Walk. We'll meet near these restrooms.
Speaking of the [Canopy Walk](https://www.metroparks.net/blog/canopy-walk-is-your-gateway-to-the-sky/), it's not officially part of the event this time. However, if interested people want to freelance and check it out after the hike (before heading to the brewery), that's okay.
**After the Hike**
After we're done with the trails, we'll head to [Prost Beer & Wine Café](https://prostcafe.com/) for drinks and [food](https://prostcafe.com/reynoldsburg-prost-beer-and-wine-cafe-food-menu). The actual address of the brewery is [7354 E Main St, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068](https://www.google.com/maps/place/7354+E+Main+St,+Reynoldsburg,+OH+43068/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x8838648cfb8d2dbb:0x545274bab130e9bb?sa=X&ved=1t:242&ictx=111), and we should be there by 5:00 if you just want to do that and skip the hike.
