The 10am Eastside Session
The 10am Eastside Session
A typical Eastside session is structured, challenging, and genuinely fun, with a strong, welcoming community at its core. Every session is expertly coached, with clear guidance on exercise form and technique throughout. Coaches are active and engaged, offering encouragement and adaptations whenever needed, so everyone can train safely and confidently. No one is left behind. Sessions begin with a thorough warm up, followed by a full body workout combining strength, cardio, and functional movement. Exercises are always scalable, ensuring the right challenge for every individual. Each session includes a dedicated anaerobic block where intensity is deliberately increased and heart rate is pushed. This is where you safely push yourself, build fitness and resilience, and realise you are capable of more than you thought. We finish with a short cool down and stretch, with time to ask questions and connect with the group. You will work hard, feel supported, and leave every session feeling stronger, energised, and part of a tight knit community. Here’s a [link to our FAQ’s](https://www.eastside.fit/bootcamp-faqs)

During this one-day weekend workshop, our experienced tutor will walk you through some ‘dry’ exercises to top up your skills in the ‘wet arts’ of your home. Plumbing = Water in and water out. There will be plenty of time to learn how to isolate the water supply, fix a leaky tap, rescue something from a U bend and unclog a blocked sink. All the basic essentials that you need to be able to do yourself without the expense of calling someone in. Learn the principles of replacing a tap, if the replacement washer didn’t do the trick, or if you are just a fashionista that wants the latest design. Get the know-how of how to fit a washing machine and a dishwasher to the ‘loo’, where you will learn how to replace any non-working part in your cistern. Warm up your knowledge of your heating system – how it works and how and when to bleed a radiator or adjust the pressure on your boiler. You will also practice how to remove and replace silicone sealant around the bath and shower. So you can go home and give your bathroom a mini-makeover, without spending a fortune. All of our courses take place in a safe environment. There is no use of blow torch or welding equipment and no running water systems. Every exercise is done on dry disconnected examples but with enough detail to add confidence to any learner. This course is created to add to any homeowner’s proficiency and sense of self-sufficiency. It will also benefit housing landlords who want to take on minor repairs in their properties. Leave with the confidence to tackle some basic plumbing jobs around the house and gain some independence. All personal protection, tools and materials are included. Beginners welcome.

**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/prepare-paint-202/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/prepare-paint-202/) ⋆⋆⋆ Learn to decorate in one day, 10am – 5pm. All set to decorate one room… or perhaps your entire home? Brush up your decorating techniques by messing up our workshop, instead of your living room! Painting a room is a great way to transform your home interior, without it costing the earth. But it can be a daunting task and everyone wants to have that professional-looking finish. What’s the secret to decorating success? Preparation and practice. Our Prepare & Paint workshop is a very practical class. From clearing the space to cleaning up brushes, we will take you methodically through the whole process. We will guide you through the importance and process of preparation: How to fill gaps and blemishes to make the surfaces smooth and ready for paint. You will practice using different tools and materials, experiment with different qualities of brushes, and finally learn how to apply paint to where you want and not all over yourself. In the morning, each student will have a panel of ‘wall’ and woodwork to work on. You will learn how to select the correct tools and materials and prepare a room for painting, from cleaning the paintwork to filling small and large holes in the walls and woodwork. Learn what materials to use and how to apply the filler and how to sand the surfaces in preparation for painting. We will even show you how to prepare areas that have been damaged by water stains, flaky plaster, and lost areas of wood. In the afternoon, you will learn how to select the correct paint and judge the correct situation to use primer and undercoat and how to paint ceilings, walls, and woodwork. Get to grips with how to paint edge lines that are crisp and sharp. Delight in painting without drips or masking tape and learn how to select and care for a paintbrush. We will even show you how to clean a brush and a roller so that they will give you years of service. Brush up your decorating techniques by practising under the guidance of an experienced decorator, who can answer your decorating problems as well, so bring photos of the snags in your home and take away lots of confidence to tackle the tasks at hand. All personal protection, tools, and materials are included. Suitable for absolute beginners. Enjoyable for everyone. This workshop takes place over one day.

Reboot Hour DMV: Spring Cleaning Edition 🌸⚾
Reboot Hour DMV: Spring Cleaning Edition 🌸⚾
Spring is almost here and we're getting ready. The blossoms might be out, the Nats Home Opener is Friday (4/3), and your tech drawer still looks like 2019 😕 Reboot Hour is your monthly Tuesday reset — a casual hangout at Carpool in Ballston where you can play pool, pinball, shuffleboard, or darts, grab a drink, and meet other tech, startup, and climate folks in the DMV. No agenda, no presentations, no speeches. Just a good excuse to get out on a Tuesday and kick off the week before Opening Day. Got old phones, tablets, or laptops collecting dust? Spring cleaning season is the perfect time to bring them in. We professionally wipe all data and get devices to people who actually need them. But bringing a device is totally optional — showing up is the whole point. Think of it as your warmup for the Nats Home Opener. Shake off winter, clear some space, and start the season right. **Details:** Tuesday, March 31st 6:00 – 8:00 PM (drop in anytime) Carpool — 900 N Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA Right off the Ballston Metro **What to bring:** Just yourself. Old devices welcome but not required. A friend, or meet a new one! **What to expect:** Pool, pinball, shuffleboard, darts, drinks, zero pressure — and a baseball game at the end of the week.

After defeating a band of goblins and their pet basilisk, the party is now skirting civilized areas on their way to "deal with" a low-ranking noble. Will they succeed, and escape without being caught? Reminder: We have transitioned to the DC20 Beta 0.10 rule set for this campaign. We will be meeting in the mezzanine above the Gainesville Wegmans food court. Go to the far end of the mezzanine and look for a group of nerds with character sheets and dice.

Soccer Zero
Soccer Zero
● Ultra-light ball (\~1/8th as heavy as a normal 5). This allows zero chances of ball causing brain injury. (Hence the name, Soccer Zero.) It's also nice to do toe kicks! ● Injury-based foul system. This means that the rules apply even for same-team-side fouls, too. You can use your hands to protect yourself from the ball; hand balls are only called if you did it to gain an advantage. Yellow cards will cause the fouler to sit out for 120 seconds. Strong kicks of balls to anyone's head, called "face kicks", or nuts (for male players only), are yellow-card fouls even though the ball is so light it doesn't matter as much. This penalizes inconsiderate play, something we really do care about. Reckless players or anyone getting a red card is banned. (Before heading, you need to have an idea of where other nearby players are.) So, as an example, if you kicked the ball at high speed to your own teammate's head you still have to sit out for 2 minutes. ● No out of bounds. This makes it more interesting and easier to ref. ● No offsides. ● No goalies for the senior team. (The senior team is the one that is ahead in points.) This rule is used in place of an offsides rule, since it implies you cannot win by sticking some fat player who stands in front of their relatively small Pugg goal all day long. We define a goalie to be any defender intentionally within the "goal area". In turn, this *goal area* is defined as the ground in front of the goal covered by the top of the goal, were the goal to be tipped forwards onto the ground, similar to what would happen if the wind blew strongly from behind and the stakes were not secured. ● Goal resizing. Sometimes a strong player comes on mid-game after teams were picked by the two captains. If someone like Ronaldo joins a team and/or both captains agree to goal resizing to make the game more balanced the game will be stopped and the goal sizes altered to make it more even. Please don't suggest team shuffling as a better method. It destroys the team spirit. If the switched player sucks, it will add insult to injury to him or her. On the other hand, if the switched player is good, past points stack against him or her, which also destroys the game integrity, much of which is about trying to get your team to win. Goal resizing and point multiplying (each point counts as 2 for the junior team) maintains game integrity and helps maintain balance and game intensity. Games are in Silver Spring, MD. They are reffed. Clean red and blue pinnies are supplied when needed. A weekly invitation including a recap of the prior week's game is sent out to any players who want to read it. See here (https://www.meetup.com/safersoccer/boards/thread/23643732/0/). RSVPs are required. The reason is that it should increase their own enjoyment. You see, the ideal number of players for a pickup soccer game is perhaps 6x6 - 8x8; some players won't attend if they think the turnout will be low, and others will just assume the game will be cancelled even though we always play. (As a practical matter, smaller games are less fun since the comics won't have the audience they need, but, they do have two hidden benefits: shorter, more intense games/workouts and fewer face kicks/yellow cards. So we play no matter how small or large.) So non-RSVPers are a little short sighted, since they don't seem to want to maximize their own enjoyment in the long run. Rational and sane players who have a good chance of attending RSVP a week early here [and in the subgroup](https://www.meetup.com/safersoccer/).
