With guided reflection, conversation, and a simple worksheet, we’ll name what’s calling you, notice where the friction is, and begin to loosen what’s been holding the work back. This is about meeting the work at the level it’s asking for — identity, courage, coherence, and commitment. You’ll leave with a clearer relationship to what wants to come through you, a deeper understanding of what has stalled it, and a renewed sense of possibility and forward movement. I’ll provide a worksheet to guide the process. You can bring a notebook and pen. Weekly screenings from a large archive of many of the most significant, yet seldom seen and rarely accessible cinematic masterpieces in the history of film - from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Screenings are in original language, if English, or original language with English subtitles. Films are selected democratically on the inspiration of a brief pre-screening discussion. The selected title is typically a "neglected gem" that most of us discover together for the first time. Individual taste is not a criterion and all participants are expected to put the interests of the group as a whole above personal preference or prejudice. In this sense, the emphasis is on openness, exploration, and surprise. Each screening is followed by an in-depth group discussion, led and moderated by the curator. WARNNG: FilmStory is not just about watching movies! Rather, it's a socially responsible, intellectual engagement, involving an organic approach to group study of film language, philosophy, art, history, politics, and technology. **What to Expect:** Join us for a relaxed, supportive gathering where we'll create together, share our process, and connect mindfully. No art experience necessary, all levels and all creative expressions welcome! **What to Bring:** Please bring your own art materials and supplies, whatever you enjoy working with! **Ideas for materials:** sketchbooks, journals, pastels, crayons, markers, colored pencils, collage materials, yarn, lego, diamond art, iPad or tablet for digital drawing, or anything else that calls to you. Bring paper or surfaces to work on as well. Join us for a special **Drawing Northern Virginia meetup** as we celebrate **Ellen’s retirement** with a relaxed morning of sketching at **Paradise Springs Winery**. Paradise Springs is a beautiful historic winery with scenic grounds, vineyards, and outdoor seating. It’s a great place to relax, draw, and spend time together as a community. We’ll meet at **11:00 AM** and then spread out around the property to find interesting scenes to sketch. Toward the end of the session, we’ll gather again to share our drawings. Seeing everyone’s work is always inspiring and a great way to discover new techniques and ideas. There are several picnic tables available, but you’re welcome to bring a **portable chair, stool, or blanket** if you prefer. This meetup is part of AI as Creative Partner — A Practice Group, a set of open, non-sequential creative labs you can join at any point. We use AI as a thinking partner—not to replace your ideas, but to help surface and shape them without overthinking or pressure. You bring fragments—ideas, impulses, unfinished concepts. With AI as a supportive collaborator, we explore how those fragments can become clearer, more coherent, and ready to share if and when you want to. No technical background is required. If you can talk or type, that's enough to work with AI here.
