Beyond Inclusion: Rethinking what truly accountable, inclusive design looks like
Beyond Inclusion: Rethinking what truly accountable, inclusive design looks like
**Whose knowledge is centred in design? Whose voices are heard, and whose are overlooked?** Join us for an interactive workshop that goes beyond surface-level inclusion to critically explore power, culture, and equity in design practice. **What’s the event about?** We want to create a space where we can talk honestly and practically about what it means to go beyond inclusive design — to question who design is for, how it’s done, and how we might do it differently. It’s not a lecture, nor is it about having the “right” answers. It’s about exploring the topic together in a way that’s open, hands-on… and a bit of fun too. This event will include an interactive activity designed to provoke thought and discussion about what it means to design beyond inclusivity, creating space for deeper shared reflection. **Who’s it for?** This is for anyone working in or around design — whether you’re in services, research, strategy, policy, or community roles. You might: • Be curious about the term “decolonising” but not sure where to start • Feel a bit disconnected from this kind of conversation • Be looking for a more grounded, less academic way in • Just want to meet others thinking about design and equity in new ways **What can you expect?** • A hands-on group activity inviting you to explore an unfamiliar world, challenge assumptions, and think differently about power, culture, and design • Facilitated group reflection and conversation on how we talk about — and act on — the idea of decolonising design in our work • Informal conversations and networking at the pub to follow What you’ll take away • A practical framework you can adapt or reuse in your own work • A more grounded sense of what “decolonising design” can mean in everyday practice • A chance to connect with others exploring similar questions Whether you're completely new to decolonising design or already working with these frameworks, you'll find space to reflect, learn, and connect with others navigating similar questions. **About the Ticket** The ticket cost is to hold your place and ensure commitment from attendees. **All participants who attend the event will be offered the option to request a full refund of their ticket price.** This approach helps us plan effectively while remaining accessible to those with financial constraints. Come ready to participate, question, and imagine design differently.

🌿 Women’s Day Walk: A Cozy East London Gathering (Women Only)
🌿 Women’s Day Walk: A Cozy East London Gathering (Women Only)
This Women’s Day, we’re gathering for something simple and meaningful - a relaxed, walk-focused afternoon dedicated to celebrating small wins, good conversation, and the kind of growth that often goes unnoticed. This event is for women only. 📍 **Plan** We’ll meet at **Hermanos Colombian Coffee (Blackhorse Road area)** at **12:00pm**, settle in briefly, and then head towards **Walthamstow Wetlands (Forest Road entrance).** Walthamstow Wetlands is Europe’s largest urban wetland nature reserve and home to herons, cormorants, great crested grebes, and if we’re lucky… maybe even a kingfisher sighting. No promises, but eyes up 😉 The afternoon will be mostly walk-focused, with a gentle stroll through nature and a short reflective pause along the way - nothing intense, just a small intentional moment to mark the occasion. Depending on the weather and group energy, we may stop at the café inside the Wetlands for a short break. On our way back towards **Walthamstow Central**, we’ll make a light bakery stop before wrapping up around **3:00pm**. ⛅️ If London weather decides to be London weather, we’ll adapt the route and spend more time indoors while keeping the spirit of the gathering intact. Please Bring your ID as some Venues in London might request it at the entrance. Please Mind your social behaviour and personal belongings, the organiser accepts no liability. Thank you :)
THE CONUNDRUM OF KENSINGTON
THE CONUNDRUM OF KENSINGTON
The allure is intoxicating, almost irresistible. A succession of exquisitely beautiful townscapes, infinitely variable and constantly changing, yet somehow all coherent parts of a magnificent production, like a Mozart concerto. Every view seems curated, polished and prepared. There’s no litter, no chewing gum, and no security guards! Yet this is traditional ‘public space’\* This is the central area of Kensington\*\*, smallest yet most densely populated London borough, home to Grenfell Tower, and Kensington Palace. It is simply great: no one would not want to live here. I promise you, by the time we reach ‘The Blackbird’ you will be ready to give up your Vow of Poverty, and move heaven and earth, to move here! In fact, when our New Town Master Planners aspire to ‘urbanity’, in their new developments, Central Kensington might well be what they have in mind. Part of the explanation is, of course, ‘money’. Oodles of it. Capitalism spends money to make money, and there’s ‘investment’ here: in every project, every house, every shop. It seems to have increased local authority spending too: York stone footways, in perfect condition, and most roadways recently resurfaced. ‘The Conundrum’ is, that this very high quality public realm seems to be unachievable elsewhere. How has this come about? Do the best quality areas become unaffordable? Or does wealth lead to good quality? It’s hard to believe, but in Kensington’s centre, from the High Street to Cromwell Road, and from Warwick Road to Queen’s Gate, there are, today, no socially rented homes *at all*, according to the official maps. Today the borough has the lowest proportion of social housing in Inner London (22%), and some of its most expensive houses. Across the whole borough, there are about 7K council-owned flats, plus the philanthropic providers' 12K more. But they are mostly in big estates in the southwest corner or far north: World’s End, Lancaster West and Dalgarno Gardens. It was not always so. From 1726 there was a workhouse. In the 1860’s terraces were built in Blithfield\*\*\* Street for ‘the working classes’ made homeless by District Railway project, and some ‘workers’ cottages’ in Pembroke Place became ‘a notorious slum’, Wait ‘til you see them now. And at the very edge of our area, in Warwick Road, Arup Associates more recently built 115 flats for the council: more than half are now ‘Right-to-Buy’ leaseholds. To address ‘The Conundrum’, we’re going to meet at High Street Kensington Station, and walk through these, the oldest and most disorganised streets of the borough, from the ‘Old Court Suburb’\*\*\*\* nearest to Kensington Palace, heading south and west, following approximately the chronological path of the area’s development, from the earliest 2-storey terraces, to Victorian semi-detached villas, towering 7-storey stuccoed Italianate blocks, and late-Victorian and Edwardian mansion flats. Now almost exclusively housing, the western parts of the area also once exhibited commercial, light industrial, and educational and healthcare activity, and along the way we’ll see the impact on the area of the the arrival of the District Railway in the 1870’s, the Cromwell Road extension just before WW2, and the West London Air Terminal in 1957. Our walk leads directly to ‘The Blackbird‘ PH, opposite Earl’s Court Station, where our reserved table is being prepared. Hope you can come! Andy \*could it be that residents get straight into their cars, and don’t walk along the streets dropping litter and gum? \*\*= the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, created in 1965 from a merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Kensington, and its tiny neighbour, Chelsea. \*\*\*sic \*\*\*\*the development of Kensington Square in 1685, an urban space among the fields. It was actually started a few years *before* King William and Queen Mary moved their residence, for health reasons, to a mansion then called Nottingham House, now ‘Kensington Palace’.

Spring Season One Begins - One Million Daffodils
Spring Season One Begins - One Million Daffodils
I honestly can't think of a nicer way to begin the season than this. Daffodils are one of my favourite flowers - a sign that spring has finally arrived. And if all this constant rain has done one good thing, it’s helped them bloom early… which means we’ll be greeted by one million daffodils planted throughout St James’s Park. Let’s meet outside St James’s Park tube (Broadway exit) at 10:30am and take it from there. We’ll take an easy stroll around the lake, with those iconic views across to Buckingham Palace on one side and Horse Guards Parade on the other. We can then stop for a coffee if you’d like. It’s actually been a long time since I’ve properly paused and taken in these landmarks myself, and it feels like quite an apt place to begin this group — central, iconic, and full of fresh energy. No fixed route. No rushing. Just a relaxed Sunday morning, good conversation, and that lovely feeling of London waking up again after winter. It’s all flat and paved, so very manageable — this is about chatting and soaking up the atmosphere, not marching anywhere. I’ll be there come rain or shine. Let’s gather, wander, and see where the morning takes us. SUMMARY (the practical bits) We’ll be out for around 90 minutes, depending on how much we stop to admire the daffodils and chat. Distance: roughly 2–3km Pace: gentle and social Terrain: flat, paved park paths Level: easy — this is very much a stroll, not a hike We’ll finish back near the park café, so you can head off whenever you need to or stay for coffee MEETING POINT 10:30am Outside St James’s Park Underground Station (Broadway exit) Please aim to arrive 5 minutes early so we can set off together. Nearest stations: • St James’s Park • Westminster • Green Park WHAT TO WEAR / BRING • Comfortable shoes (trainers are perfect) • A coat or light layers — it’s still early March • Optional coffee money A LITTLE NOTE This is a relaxed social walk in a public park. Everyone is responsible for their own comfort, safety and wellbeing during the morning — we’ll simply be gathering, strolling and enjoying London together.

Confidence in Bloom: How Creativity Builds Confidence
Confidence in Bloom: How Creativity Builds Confidence
**Confidence in Bloom: How Creativity Builds Confidence** What happens when creativity becomes an intentional practice? In this month’s Confidence Lab, we’ll gather at **Petals That Inspire: The Flourish Studio** for an evening exploring the connection between creativity and confidence. How making with our hands, engaging our senses, and allowing space for expression can shift how we see ourselves and what we believe is possible. Our featured speaker, **Amanda Lorenzetti**, owner of Petals That Inspire, will share how creativity has shaped her own confidence journey and why creative environments play such a powerful role in well-being, resilience, and personal growth. Drawing from her work leading an experience-driven floral studio and a community-centered workforce development program, Amanda will reflect on creativity as both a personal and collective catalyst. Amanda will also guide us through a **hands-on floral design experience**, creating a fresh arrangement in a wide mouth mason jar. No prior floral experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to engage the process. This evening is an invitation to slow down, create, and reconnect with the part of yourself that grows through care, attention, and imagination. You’ll leave with a floral arrangement to take home, and a deeper understanding of how confidence can be cultivated through creative practices. **Featured Speaker: Amanda Lorenzetti** Amanda Lorenzetti is the owner and founder of [Petals That Inspire](https://www.petalsthatinspire.com/) and The Flourish Studio, a social enterprise florist based in Columbus, Ohio. She brings more than a decade of experience in wedding and event sales, paired with hands-on expertise in floral and event design. Amanda’s connection to the floral industry began early, spending time alongside her godmother, a professional florist on the East Coast. After earning her business degree, she returned to her hometown in Connecticut to work as a floral and event designer, blending creative artistry with strong operational and client-focused skills. In 2020, Amanda returned to the floral industry with a renewed purpose, driven by a desire to build a business rooted in creativity, community impact, and sustainability. During this pivotal time, she founded Petals That Inspire—an innovative floral concept that reimagines the traditional florist model by combining event florals, workshops, and experiential offerings with a mission-centered approach to workforce development. Today, Petals That Inspire is a thriving social enterprise known for its thoughtful design, educational experiences, and commitment to empowering young adults facing barriers to entry in the workforce. Amanda is deeply passionate about building businesses that are both profitable and purpose-driven, and she leverages her strong business acumen to create a scalable & sustainable model that inspires creativity while giving back to the community. **What is Confidence Lab?** Confidence Lab is a monthly community experience for bold, thoughtful leaders building confidence from the inside out. Whether you’re launching a business, leading a team, navigating change, or simply striving to show up more fully—you belong here. Our work demands clarity, courage, and conviction—but the pace of daily life can erode our sense of self. Confidence Lab creates space to reflect, reconnect, and grow with others doing purpose-driven work. It’s designed for entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, creatives, corporate professionals, activists, and anyone ready to lead with authenticity and impact. ***Please note:*** *All are welcome! [https://www.game-arena.co/menu](https://www.game-arena.co/menu) **Attendees:** Don't have a game to show? Not a problem! All are welcomed and invited from all ages and backgrounds. The more we can have to play test our games the better! **Developers:** Do you have a game that you would like to get critical feedback on? Would you like an excuse to work on a game with other talented artists, programmers, musicians, designers, and writers? Digital, table-top, non-experienced developers, and the like are welcomed! We'll provide signage for your game to help others learn more about your work. Wifi, outlets, tables, and seats (though standing tables also) are available. Come to the Prototype and Play workshop to collaborate and meet local game developers for an evening of epic and raw game play fun! Play works-in-progress, show off your own game, work with others to add polish to a game, or even lend your talents to other fellow developers. Can use South Garage at the Gateway with a $5 voucher on your way out. 75 E 11th Ave, Columbus, OH 43201 [https://maps.app.goo.gl/UwgveUYG37Jy7RtS9](https://maps.app.goo.gl/UwgveUYG37Jy7RtS9) If you have any questions or comments, as always, feel free to reach out to us at [info@thecogg.com!](http://info@thecogg.com!/)
